Well, word on the street is that homegirl Whit was spreading her chopsticks for Clive for the record deal, so I don't know where you're going with that ish about Mariah. And Clive crafted Whit's image from the very beginning, too, trying to erase Whit's straight-outta-Newark skeeo ass. And Bob-bay was helping to get Whit high as a 747, so don't talk to me about "sinking low." Whitney didn't write her songs, she didn't produce her own records, and she had no say in the direction of her career. And you know what? She STILL doesn't now. Clive had to come in and pull whatchamacallit out from under the bus she threw herself into. But Mariah? Even under Tommy's control, she was still writing her own songs and had a say in how they were produced. And now that she's been free for years now, she has FULL control of her career.

I can't believe you're even trying to test these waters, boo, since you obviously have trouble swimming. That must be some damn good ganja Whit passed on to your triflin self.

well, about the voices both between Mimi and Whitney can't battle with their ages... so if their voices gone dry or something it's not a big thing because they're getting older... but I must admit if Mariah is getting boring...and also noted she needs maintenance for her look...come on Mimi, that's 90s curly hair is really ridiculous LOL

"Getting old" is a really poor excuse. Reba McEntire's voice for instance, is in tip-top shape, and she's 54; older than both Whitney and Mariah.

I also think all the buzz around Whitney "losing her voice" is exaggerated; she sounds good to me; at the very least as good as someone who had severe vocal nodules and smoked god only knows what could possibly sound.

ohNOyoudidnt and SexyKev remind me of the fights my bf and I have had about Mariah and some tramp like Britney of Gaga. It took me over a year to get my bf to be a lamb. He has now seen the light and is emersed in Memoirs (as well he should be).

My 2 cents (not that anyone cares; bottom line is that Lambs won't flock to Whitney and vice versa) is that, of course Whitney came first and has material over three decades. She's older. Period. Whitney released her first album at 22 years old. Mariah at 20 years old. (Granted, Mariah's first five singles went to #1, but I'll leave the arguing to the other fellas).

There was tons of shit that went through my had when I was reading y'alls posts (which were entertaining, to be honest). The only point I want to bring up is this: If Tommy bought Mariah all of her hits when she was with Sony, why didn't the same happen with Thalia, who is currently married to Tommy? If you recall, she put out one English album, and we basically told her, "not gonna happen," no matter who the fuck you are married to. Of course, Mariah's talent made her queen and kept her at the top. And as far as the crazy point that Mariah's voice was all engineered in the studio, a quick listen to Unplugged will trounce that theory.

The bottom line is that this is a Mariah thread. There really doesn't need to be the wave of Whitney talk in here. This is not the place to talk about how Whitney's album has made a death-drop since the first week, for example. Or even how Whitney has gotten to #1 in other countries (something that Mariah does regularly). I have no doubt that Memoirs will do well. It is an excellent album and gets better with every listen. We can all spread as much shade as we want to but the numbers don't lie. This debate should be decided in a year or so, when both albums and all of the singles are over and done with. In the meantime, just enjoy the albums that these two chicks put out. And, SexyKev, you keep on being sexy. It fits you well.

But seriously, as opposed to what my other posts might have you believe, I sort of like Mariah. She isn't an innovator, and she isn't as immensely technically gifted as some fans might want you to believe, but she's made a fair bit of enjoyable music. The Emancipation Of Mimi for instance was a really great album. I'm still on the fence on whether I should get Memoirs of a Trampy Cougar (errr... Imperfect Angel) though.

Right. Whitney's voice went through a hell of a lot more damage than Whisperiah's, and she still sounds better these days (when Mariah actually sings live, which is rare). Scarey sounded a hot mess at Michael Jackson's memorial service. She's the one who sounds like she's been smoking some crack.

I like some of Mariah's OLD music. Back when she was actually sanging somethin and not whispering her way through songs like she does today.

And I wouldn't waste my money on Memoirs of a Trampy Cougar. Its already leaked on the net so maybe you should just do what most people are doing and download it instead of wasting the money on just a few good tracks (cuz most of the tracks are filler material. Not many standouts on the album. )

I honestly haven't listened to alot of Mariah's recent live performances, and so I can't really comment on this, but I'd say her performances from the 90s were pretty good, and for a voice to deteriorate the way some people are saying it has, is not normal for a woman who hasn't turned 40 and who hasn't done anything that actively damages ones vocal chords.

I agree. Mariah is not even 40 yet....hasn't been out singing as long as Whitney has...hasn't done drugs (supposedly) like Whitney has...and yet her voice is still gone, worse off than Whitney's today.

I agree. Whitney's voice will definitely improve and regain strength as she stays off the drugs and disciplines herself. Her voice has already shown much improvement. Her voice was clear and strong when she performed on Oprah just a couple weeks ago. Her body/voice is recovering and healing each day that she stays off drugs, so she'll continue to improve.

Whitney's voice is stronger than Mariah's today. And she's the one who had vocal nodules, long extensive tours, AND did drugs for a long time, in addition to SMOKING cigarettes. She's had so much more abuse on her vocal chords and yet she's still in better shape than Scarey is today. Whispering her way through songs. Where's the singing? All this whispering. Her album is a bore.

OK, so I just listened to "I Want To Know What Love Is", and I wasn't very impressed. She's fine vocally, but she goes way over the top towards the end. This just further proves that that song belongs to Wynonna Judd.
