Re: Mariah Carey's Signature Song

Vision of Love for sure!

I liked her earlier songs and albums better...it seems after like 1998 she switched to doing more hip-hop influenced tracks that don't show off her vocal abilities at ALL. She just seems to go through the motions now and kind of talk in a high pitched voice (like "Touch My Body").

Re: Mariah Carey's Signature Song

Worldwide, I'd say Hero or Without You. In the US, probably VOL.

Re: Mariah Carey's Signature Song

US- Vision of Love
Outside the States- Without You

Re: Mariah Carey's Signature Song

I agree with the majority. It is Hero...

Re: Mariah Carey's Signature Song

Hero and I am starting to think We Belong Together is the other.

Re: It's yet another Mariah Carey topic. (Haters, please just avoid this)

Thanks for posting guys. :)

Re: It's yet another Mariah Carey topic. (Haters, please just avoid this)

There's not an album by her that I don't like. My favorites are "Butterfly", "Daydream", "E=MC2" and I am really loving some of the songs from "Angel". There's only one song that I can think of that I don't like by her and that is a bonus track from "E=MC2" called, "Heat" and it isn't horrible, but just isn't good either. She's has an amazing catalog of songs, amazing vocals on her songs, even if you don't like the "whisper" vocal, she still sounds better than most female singers today. She's amazing all around.

I agree. :)

Re: Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Official Track List Revealed!

Hardly.

I'm not even annoyed by him. He's annoyed by me though. Why? Because he knows I make sense and he's getting frustrated. And if you can't handle the heat I'm giving, then stay out of the kitchen (or your ass will be grilled).

Lamb stew, anyone? :D

That's no longer the point though, Kevin. You are trolling his topic. This is about Mariah, not Whitney. You are clearly trolling.

I'm not even trying to start anything. It's just true.

Re: Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Official Track List Revealed!

I like it... lol

Re: Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Official Track List Revealed!

I finally broke down, bought Mimi's new record and gave it a non-biased listen. And I gotta admit, I really like MOAIA. :D True, it lacks those signature Mimi hit singles like "Butterfly", "Honey", "We Belong Together" and "Touch My Body". She would have definitely benefited by having a few more uptembo club-like tracks on there but as far as the actual album itself, it's fairly consistent and easy to listen to. Her range and tone is relaxed and restrained, I'm not picking up that same aura of desperation in her voice like I did on the E=MC2 album. I take back my original statement; Memoirs is nothing like Rainbow, Mimi actually did her thing on this one. Too bad, no one's really noticing. :(

H.A.T.E.U., Candy Bling, Ribbon, Betcha Gon Know, It's A Wrap and The Impossible have been getting the most plays from me today. I freakin love that line on The Impossible where she goes "I love you like Sugar Daddies, Love you like pimped Caddys.....Love you like Louie Vuitton heels and a short skirt." That's so Mariah.

(!)sweet review.
Those who matter are taking note.

Why is Mariah rushing to put out a remix album. Lets pray it won't flop.

Re: Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Official Track List Revealed!

Mariah's Memoirs "Remix" Album NOT a Remix Album

The to be re-released Memoirs project is more of a "features" album rather than a "remix" album, not even all the songs will be remixed. IMO she is wasting her time if she thinks this will make her more appealing to general audiences. The most common praise I hear from fans is that they were glad that this album was just about her. She doesn't need to taint her songs by inserting unnecessary rap verses. IDK what adding some raps from obscure and washed up rappers is going to do besides sell a couple hundred more copies. I mean, if it were actually someone that was big or talented that would be another story. She hasn't collaborated with Jay-Z or Snoop for some time and those were her best rap collaborations. Also, she hasn't had a decent duet since..... Joe & 98degrees? Uh I don't know why she doesn't really work with other singers. Is she that worried about being outsung? I've been enjoying the HATEU remix (even though it sounds more like SHE is the featured artist) but I might be able to live without the rest. We will see.

------------------------------------------------------------------
It's hard to please everyone, but Mariah Carey is setting out to do just that with a retooled version of her latest album, and she's brought along some famous friends. After Rap-Up broke the news of the songbird's plans to remix Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, Tricky Stewart filled in on a few more details.

The "Obsessed" producer wouldn't quite categorize the work in progress as a remix album. "They've said that it's a remix album, but really what it is is a features album. [The songs] won't necessarily be remixed. It's just an album of features, really cool features on the exact same album."

According to Tricky, 90 percent of the record will contain a featured guest, while there's a small possibility of one or two all-new tracks. The as-yet-untitled project will go by the Memoirs title. "It will be the same name, but it will probably have something to it. I'm not sure what they're going to call it, but it's the same album."

The goal is to appeal to all of Carey's fans. "We wanted to do an album that was really personal, and if you love Mariah Carey, you can put it on and listen to it all day," began Tricky, "but at the same time, if you like the hot Mariah when she's doing the features, we want to give people that option too, so that they can put on whichever one they choose."

So far the lineup looks promising with T-Pain Auto-Tuning on "Candy Bling," the Southern hip-hop trio of Big Boi, Gucci Mane, and OJ Da Juiceman rapping on "H.A.T.E.U.," and Trey Songz crooning on "Inseparable." Tricky also revealed that R. Kelly appears on the opening cut "Betcha Gon' Know."

No release date has been set for the project.

Re: Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Official Track List Revealed!

I've got the album and I love it. I think the lyrics are great and she sounds pretty damn good. My favorites are 'I Want To Know What Love Is', 'Angels Cry', and 'Betcha Gon Know'.

I think it's a great album but I don't see any standout tracks that will def be hits. That's the problem.

Re: Mariah Carey's Signature Song

I think for worldwide, it will def be 'Without You' but USA might be 'We Belong Together'.

Re: Mariah Carey's Signature Song

I thought "Hero" before I saw the choices. I remember seeing this performance on TV the first time and thinking how perfect she was.

Re: Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Official Track List Revealed!

What are your single choices?

Here are my picks if I were to choose all of em & then my picks with what we have to work with after the 3rd single.

MY PICKS...

1) Obsessed (even though this is not my fave by far or a fan fave, I think it was the right choice. However, I kind of don't like the fact that it was the first single being that it is not representative of the album's overall sound)
2) Angel's Cry (this has the best chance to top the charts)
3) Up Out My Face (I think this would be similar to Shake it Off being released after We Belong Together)
4) Candy Bling (I think that this song can reach people that aren't typically into her. she's never done a song like this before and it sounds very fresh, even though it sounds a little to much like The-Dream's songs. It may be risky though).
5) Inseparable (double release w/HATEU. I can hear this on radio, and I think a double release with a ballad would be a good idea which isn't something we aren't used to today, even though this wouldn't be realistic at all since I think this is just a Beyonce tactic)
6) HATEU (double release w/Inseparable. Another strong ballad, but I think it would have been better to be released after Angels Cry, the stronger ballad)
7) I Want to Know What Love Is (good to close the album with)

MY PICKS WITH WHAT WE HAVE TO WORK WITH...

1) Obsessed
2) I Want to Know What Love Is (Did alright. I don't think that it would have gone #1 but if the video were released at the right time and had better promotion it would have done well. it did fine for not having much promotion)
3) HATEU (I feel like Angels Cry should have came first, being the "big ballad". I think that if this song doesn't do well quick she should just go straight to the remix)
4) Up Out My Face, Inseparable, OR new/remixed song (I think that Angels Cry should have gotten out there sooner, but we can't have another ballad back to back)
5) Angels Cry (hopefully the album won't lose momentum by the time we get to this song)
6) Candy Bling (I think this would be a great light summer jam next year)
7) Inseparable OR new/remixed song

Re: Mariah Carey's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Official Track List Revealed!

How sad that this c.d. hasnt even been out a month and there is already talk of a remixed version. You can remix a turd. But its still a turd.

Like spritzing some Glade on a piece of shit, in other words. Still shit, still gonna stank.

Not that I'm agreeing with you on the merits of the album. Just clarifying.

2) I Want to Know What Love Is (Did alright. I don't think that it would have gone #1 but if the video were released at the right time and had better promotion it would have done well. it did fine for not having much promotion)

Not really agreeing here. I mean, besides the round of morning shows she performed the song on, she went on Oprah. Oprah! Isn't that about the pinnacle of promotion? The promotion was there; the song was just a bad choice. I groaned a bit when I first heard about them releasing it because I just did not hear this song being played on the radio. It probably would've worked in the '90s, but not in an era of club bangers and auto-tune. Even in comparison to the ballads that are successful nowadays, it's too slow.

That's sad though that the song is freefalling off the charts even before the video is released. She should just shelve it and pretend the single didn't happen, like "Obsessed" before it cracked the top ten and they decided it was a single again. God, I've played that song literally hundreds of times and I still love it. Now that song has a case for little promotion.
