Sade To Take No. 1 On Billboard 200 Next Week

Expect the smooth sounds of Sade to overtake the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200 album chart next week, as industry sources project the group's new effort "Soldier of Love" could sell between 375,000 to 400,000 by week's end on Feb. 14.


It will be the act's second No. 1 album -- its first came way back in 1986 with "Promise." "Soldier of Love" is the first studio effort from the band -- led by vocalist Sade Adu -- since "Lovers Rock" was released in 2000. That set debuted and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 with 370,000 sold in its first week.

Since its release, "Lovers Rock" has sold 3.9 million in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. The new album's title track recently became Sade's eighth top 10 hit on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart -- its first since "Kiss of Life" reached No. 9 in 1993.

And yes, I'm very happy for Sade's success. She's a timeless artist who puts out great music. Always have loved her and supported her. When I get in a certain mood there is no better way to unwind and relax than throwing on some good ole' Sade. Yessssss. :cool:

Last week Sade, the Nigerian-born singer whose song “Smooth Operator” has been a radio staple for a quarter-century, released “Soldier of Love” (Epic), her first album in 10 years, and it zoomed past all competition. It reached No. 1 with a remarkable 502,000 sales, according to Nielsen SoundScan, a better debut week than Jay-Z, U2 and Britney Spears had for their latest albums.

“Soldier of Love” has received strong reviews. But the album’s success also points to the consumer power and loyalty of older listeners, who helped make Susan Boyle’s album “I Dreamed a Dream” (Syco Music/Columbia) the second-best selling album of 2009. Sade's 'Soldier Of Love' Rules Euro Chart

Sade's "Soldier of Love" (Epic/Sony Music Entertainment) starts a second week atop Billboard's European Albums chart, while Ke$ha leads European Hot 100 Singles for a fourth week with "Tik Tok" (RCA/Sony Music Entertainment).

Logistical issues prevented the regular production of last week's charts, when Sade's new album debuted at the top in 14 countries worldwide, according to Sony. This week, it stays at No. 1 in France, Italy and Poland and debuts at No. 1 in Sweden and Hungary and No.2 in Holland. But it falls from the top in Spain, Portugal, Switzerland and the Belgian region of Wallony.
