Re: NEW Whitney Houston Pictures

thank the gods she's finally realized that CRACK IS WHACK!

Re: NEW Whitney Houston Pictures

Whitney never should've left Clive Davis and Robin Crawford. She replaced Clive and Robin with Bobby and that was where she went downhill.

You Go, Whit! I am so proud of her for starting to make moves in getting her shit back in line. Dropping that dirty looking creature was one big, shining, committed first step, girl!

Re: NEW Whitney Houston Pictures

She hasn't had mainstream appeal for QUITE a long time. It's mostly been Urban Adult and Mainstream Adult. IF she has the right people on her hands, which assuming it's gonna be Clive Davis, she will go nowhere. He's not relevant anymore to be quite honest. 99% of his artists fell on their faces recently, flop after flop. All she needs is that one song, but is her style really relevant now? The LAST thing she needs to do is a MADONNA-KYLIEesque album. She probably wants airplay. And, it has nothing to do with the fact that I'm a Mariah fan. I like Whitney, nearly all Mariah fans do, but we have to be real. It's almost as real as Mariah having another big album after this one, it's just not good odds.

Sorry baby, but Mariah hadn't had mainstream appeal EITHER. B4 'Mimi' - Mariah's last mainstream hit was in 1999 with "Heartbreaker" - ("Thank God I Found You" all but flopped at radio). - That was at the same time Whitney had her last one, "My Love Is Your Love." All of the Glitter singles flopped, and the Just Whitney singles did better than the Charmbracelet singles. (Hell, Mariah couldn't even get a top 40 R&B hit in 2003) - So basically what's your point? Actually MORE people are pulling for Whitney, than they were pulling for Mariah. Whitney doesn't NEED airplay, all she needs is her VOICE. Her fans (the ones she's had since 1985-up and through TBG) fell in love with her voice, not her collaborations or anything of the sort. AND add to the fact that Whitney's fans don't listen to mainstream music anyway, all Whitney has to do is to keep a high profile. Her Adult Contemporary fans WILL find her. (Hell, they found Barry Manilow, Rod Stewart, Michael Buble, and a host of A/C staples).

Trust. Whitney Houston WILL be fine (AND she has a huge international fanbase, which lead her GH album to 10 Million copies after it all but flopped in the US).

lol. "Loverboy," "Through The Rain," & "Boy (I Need You)" were all Top 40, actually, according to airplay monitors. Just because it wasn't #1 on Billboard doesn't mean it wasn't a hit. Those singles were out at a time when radio airplay didn't mean much, but physical sales were everything - and she didn't really release any physical singles of those songs in the U.S. except Loverboy, which skyrocketed to #2. So that argument is dead:)
And more people are pulling for Whitney? Says who? Nobody WANTS her to fail - not many people are that cold hearted. Even the rabid Madonna fans (excluding the ones from this board, apparently).

She's got such a HUGE fan base that her last few records tanked GLOBALLY. She's in the same stew as Mariah, but as I said, Whitney's music really only appeals to the AC crowds, much like Mariah did from 94-97. Its not a bad thing, but it's in no way set for a huge come back. Mainly because her music doesn't fit what's considered "in" right now. Mariah, like I said, got REALLY lucky that she came along with songs that counted as "in." As you can see with some other artists, what's not 'in' just ain't workin.

Re: NEW Whitney Houston Pictures

She actually looks...normal...and pretty. This is the best she has looked in a long time.

Re: NEW Whitney Houston Pictures

The way she was...

Whitney Houston live @ the 36th Grammy Awards 1994

Re: NEW Whitney Houston Pictures

And that will never happen for one reason: Like Mariah's, her voice just completely became destroyed. I remember like 2 years ago when she sang "I Will Always Love You" on BET and I thought it was funny cause she didn't hit ANY note - and it wasn't because she couldn't get on key - it's because her voice took a nosedive. It happens. She's older. Her and Mariah were stupid and sang like Machines and fucked themselves up. Mariah just got lucky and her songs aren't as vocally harsh as they used to be (written up in really high keys). Whitney just doesn't have mainstream appeal. She tried. Remember "Whatchalookinat?" Yeah.

I must agree about her voice. She sung during the Torino Winter Olympics in February, and she sounded ATROCIOUS. She kilted every note of her song "I Will Always Love You" in the worst way. I was laughing my ass off at that atrociousness because it was so bad that it was funny.

Re: NEW Whitney Houston Pictures

i don't know her personally, but i'm glad she is doing better. the photos at least have her looking better, so i hope she is.

No they were NOT. "Through The Rain" never went higher than #81 on the Hot 100, and that was with the aid of a cheap single. "Boy (I Need You)" - never even hit the hot 100. "Loverboy" didn't get higher than the high 60s on the Hot 100 before the $.49 single was released.

Whitney hasn't been AC since the mid 90s. I wouldn't called "It's Not Right, But It's Okay" "Heartbreak Hotel" or "My Love Is Your Love" - "AC" And her last 2 efforts tanked globally because she didn't go over there. You have to be visible overseas to sell records; but I'm pretty sure you already knew that.

Um Billboard is not what classifies a song as a Top 40 hit. MEDIABASE and BDS Airplay monitors do. It determines the success and momentum of a single regardless of it's physical sales. And on airplay, they were all above making Top 40. So yeah, Billboard isn't everything, especially back then when physical sales were no longer relevant because no distributors really released them anymore, hence Billboard's Hot 100 and singles charts in general basing their positions now on Airplay and Digital. So yeah, like I said, they were all Top 40.

Whitney hasn't been AC since the mid 90s. I wouldn't called "It's Not Right, But It's Okay" "Heartbreak Hotel" or "My Love Is Your Love" - "AC" And her last 2 efforts tanked globally because she didn't go over there. "My Love Is Your Love" is definitely Urban AC. "Heartbreak Hotel" was an urban success, while "It's Not Right But It's Okay" was a dance hit. Mainstream, not so much. She has her formats, but to have a comeback like Mariah's or bigger than Mariah's, she needs a song that can cover every format, as Mariah did. And with the right people, she can do that - but the thing is, is that what she WANTS to do? If she keeps doing the stuff she did back on her MLIYL record, then it wouldn't be as big a comeback as fans would hope for. But at this point, ANY form of song success would be a great comeback for her, considering she literally hasnt had a hit in years. At least Mariah was still SORTA in there, so Whitney faces a bigger struggle. The only time she was in the news was for her drug addiction, and oh by the way i have an album coming out, but back to the drugs. This is basically Whitney's "Charmbracelet". So I don't expect a huge comeback yet. I expect it would be something of what Charmbracelet was for Mariah, and then she'll eventually have her Emancipation...But, if that voice is in shape and she has the right producers, it is possible.

Re: NEW Whitney Houston Pictures

she looks good but hot damn thats alot of makeup.

What is Your Favorite Whitney Houston Song?

I would have to say I'm Your Baby Tonight. It was almost a rock track , it had attitude, and the rap bit in it is awsome.

I also like So Emotional.

Re: What is Your Favorite Whitney Houston Song?

"I Wanna Dance With Somebody" because it was used so perfectly in 13 Going On 30.

"So Emotional" is great too. I love her early music so much more.

Re: What is Your Favorite Whitney Houston Song?

My favourite is "So Emotional" with "Saving All My Love For You" coming a close second.

Re: What is Your Favorite Whitney Houston Song?

I'm Your Baby Tonight is my favorite, too.(!) (!) (!)
