She hasn't had mainstream appeal for QUITE a long time. It's mostly been Urban Adult and Mainstream Adult. IF she has the right people on her hands, which assuming it's gonna be Clive Davis, she will go nowhere. He's not relevant anymore to be quite honest. 99% of his artists fell on their faces recently, flop after flop. All she needs is that one song, but is her style really relevant now? The LAST thing she needs to do is a MADONNA-KYLIEesque album. She probably wants airplay. And, it has nothing to do with the fact that I'm a Mariah fan. I like Whitney, nearly all Mariah fans do, but we have to be real. It's almost as real as Mariah having another big album after this one, it's just not good odds.
how do u know she is not useing drogs now?
Sorry baby, but Mariah hadn't had mainstream appeal EITHER. B4 'Mimi' - Mariah's last mainstream hit was in 1999 with "Heartbreaker" - ("Thank God I Found You" all but flopped at radio). - That was at the same time Whitney had her last one, "My Love Is Your Love." All of the Glitter singles flopped, and the Just Whitney singles did better than the Charmbracelet singles. (Hell, Mariah couldn't even get a top 40 R&B hit in 2003) - So basically what's your point? Actually MORE people are pulling for Whitney, than they were pulling for Mariah.
Trust. Whitney Houston WILL be fine (AND she has a huge international fanbase, which lead her GH album to 10 Million copies after it all but flopped in the US).
And that will never happen for one reason: Like Mariah's, her voice just completely became destroyed. I remember like 2 years ago when she sang "I Will Always Love You" on BET and I thought it was funny cause she didn't hit ANY note - and it wasn't because she couldn't get on key - it's because her voice took a nosedive. It happens. She's older. Her and Mariah were stupid and sang like Machines and fucked themselves up. Mariah just got lucky and her songs aren't as vocally harsh as they used to be (written up in really high keys). Whitney just doesn't have mainstream appeal. She tried. Remember "Whatchalookinat?" Yeah.
lol. "Loverboy," "Through The Rain," & "Boy (I Need You)" were all Top 40, actually, according to airplay monitors. Just because it wasn't #1 on Billboard doesn't mean it wasn't a hit. Those singles were out at a time when radio airplay didn't mean much, but physical sales were everything - and she didn't really release any physical singles of those songs in the U.S. except Loverboy, which skyrocketed to #2. So that argument is dead
And more people are pulling for Whitney? Says who? Nobody WANTS her to fail - not many people are that cold hearted. Even the rabid Madonna fans (excluding the ones from this board, apparently).
She's got such a HUGE fan base that her last few records tanked GLOBALLY. She's in the same stew as Mariah, but as I said, Whitney's music really only appeals to the AC crowds, much like Mariah did from 94-97. Its not a bad thing, but it's in no way set for a huge come back. Mainly because her music doesn't fit what's considered "in" right now. Mariah, like I said, got REALLY lucky that she came along with songs that counted as "in." As you can see with some other artists, what's not 'in' just ain't workin.
No they were NOT. "Through The Rain" never went higher than #81 on the Hot 100, and that was with the aid of a cheap single. "Boy (I Need You)" - never even hit the hot 100. "Loverboy" didn't get higher than the high 60s on the Hot 100 before the $.49 single was released.
Whitney hasn't been AC since the mid 90s. I wouldn't called "It's Not Right, But It's Okay" "Heartbreak Hotel" or "My Love Is Your Love" - "AC" And her last 2 efforts tanked globally because she didn't go over there. You have to be visible overseas to sell records; but I'm pretty sure you already knew that.
