Re: New Whitney Album/Song/Performance/Nominations [Mega-Merged Thread]
You know you have a serious problem when the promoter has to go on national TV and make excuses.
No problem here: Houston
Whitney Houston's management team has rejected rumours the 46-year-old
was ill after a reportedly shambolic performance in Brisbane last night.
The pop diva's camp said they were "happy'' with the opening performance of her Australian tour.
Fans and music journalists this morning blasted the gig, held at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
One reviewer described the award-wining singer's effort as
''breathless and exhausted'' in a repeat of criticism that dogged her recent tour to South Korea.
However, representatives of Houston this morning told brisbanetimes.com.au the singer would not have been allowed on stage ''if it was going to harm her health''.
In a written statement, Andrew McManus questioned why Australians couldn't support someone "who has seen difficult times".
"[She] is now up on stage, warts and all, presenting herself like an open book for the world to see - and they want to ridicule Whitney," he said.
"I am personally amazed at the few who are trying to derail the project and say if they expected to hear Whitney of 20 years ago, go buy a CD.
"If they wanted to see a true professional artist give 100 per cent ... well come along and enjoy the ride of an amazing talent, on stage, letting her heart and soul out for us all to enjoy.''
Fans who attended last night's Brisbane show forked out $125 for the cheapest seats.
However, judging by much of the online reaction, it seems
many went home disappointed.
'
'We just got back from Whitney Houston concert in Brizzy and I feel so sorry for her. She sounded croaky,'' fan Rick Crystal said on Facebook.
''#whitneyhouston should have toured 15 years ago.
Voice not what it used to be,'' adavidholloway said on Twitter after the concert.
An official Australian Associated Press concert review said
Houston ''appeared disoriented and failed to properly name some of her backing band as she introduced them to the audience'.'
Houston will have two days' rest before her next performance in Sydney at the Acer Arena
