On-Topic The politics of eating out & Chick-fil-A

Cracker Barrel?....Cracker Barrel!...Cracker, Barrel!! LOL i bet the restaurants name was part of a racist joke.

Considering that Cracker Barrel discriminated against African Americans and wouldn't hire gay employees until they were forced and well, we all know what Chick-Fil-A is all about you should rephrase that to indicate that it's a CERTAIN KIND (wink wink) of Republican who eats there.

Like you said earlier in this thread CB did make changes years ago and you don't hear of any recent law-suits ...When I lived in Atlanta I'd go CB at least once or twice a month...The workers were always nice and I'd say they were mixed with about 50/50 Black & White....Their breakfast deff tastes home-made. The signature hashbrown caserole is a must-have....I have yet to pay them a visit since I've moved back to my home-town and we're talking about 11yrs...

The food was good in the ATL and I'm sure the quality hasnt changed.......

Whole Paycheck - LOL - love that

Trader Joes is the affordable Whole Foods - I shop there every week and I notice that the workers are excellent - great attitude, helpful and appear happy

not sure how Giancarlo is pulling a TJ is democratic silliness (perhaps it is true) but I'm sure a source is on its way (not) - why source something when u can just say it's so - very Harry Reid-esque ;)

and Luv - they're not judging u - they're lusting after u :)

Ok we have Aldi's grocery here in the Dirty South...I'm a Lifetime Wal-Mart everything so I havent gone to Aldi's but my friends and co-workers have. They never talked about the place having ANYTHING to with Healthy foods.....They did say you can find good prices on certain items. I think they have to bring their own bags and they have to rent the grocery-buggies for a quarter...I often wonder if Aldi's makes any money cuz the parking lot is nearly empty whenever I drive by......

What I find interesting is that Aldi's is located in an upper-middle-class side of town...

so a tourist asked him where does you go for the best New York italian food....he deadpanned, "My wife and I love this little place over in New Jersey called The Olive Garden".

..LOL....Talk show host Big Mouth/Jersey native Wendy Williams BRAGS about how good the food is @ the Olive Garden in her town....I prefer Carrabba's over OG in my area but when I visit Jersey I'm gonna go to OG just because people keep saying the food is so good...Maybe they're doing something different than what we're doing down South....

No problem such as all of y'all. Here in Corpus Christi it's Whataburger. It will out shine anything you can come up with.

We have a Whataburger here in South Carolina...Here it's pronounced Whaddaburger....It was owned for decades by a family then sold to a Gay couple.....I don't know if they still own it but it's a legendary-mainstay in town....

Haha! Around here the late night/early morning drunks do Krystal (White Castle of the South) or Waffle House. Usually, you can count on one murder a month after midnight at area Waffle Houses.

Come on Sammie...Waffle House has CRAZY Midnight adventures all over the USA but One Murder a month is stretching it a bit....

MisterMajestic
You made me google it. I've never even thought that it would be in other states.
However, none in South Carolina.
I guess you could say Whaddaburger here.

California's market is over saturated. Fresh Market has 1 store in California. Fresh & Easy has 150. Though it was expensive for them to start up and they may spin off the chain. We don't need bigotry operated stores in this state, period. I've had enough of this honestly. My patience is wearing thin with all these fundamentalists moving their little stores where ever they please. Not welcomed in California and I hope it remains at 1 store.

Oh, dear. Everything with you is a pissing contest. Do you have any business acumen out there in liberal lala land -- there's a reason why the South is #1 in the USA in creating business-friendly environments

Well, I like facts. There's a reason why my above link on hot grocery chains didn't include your Calif based F&E...F&E is NOT hot. In fact, the British who own it are threatening to close it because they're losing so much money. They just laid off corporate employees. Their stock is dropping. They're on life support. Quarterly growth at only 3%.
Tesco cuts jobs at U.S. Fresh & Easy chain - Yahoo! News

And here's more 'facts' from the Chicago Tribune to wear on your patience: Tesco weighs future of Fresh & Easy - Chicago Tribune

As opposed to Fresh Market with 110 stores over 21 states, growth at 50%, stock up to $60 and 34% margins. They have committments to 3 California stores (Palo Alto, Roseville, Santa Barbara). Perhaps they're moving into Cali because they see opportunity with F&E's impending collapse. By the way, I have a gay friend who has worked at FM for years...and they must be alright in regards to pro-gay as he's given them plenty enough excuses to fire him LOL. I think you're stereotyping all southerners as fundamentalists. You should be noticing a trend that we develp strong businesses down South. You yourself (I think) in another thread listed all the car manufacturers who are in this region.

MisterMajestic I'm with you about Aldi's. We have 2 that opened over a year ago...one in a nice area, one in a rough area...and like u said, their parking lots are always empty. I went it once during their grand opening and never went back. Okay, so we average 1 or 2 shootings per year at Waffle House. We really do have a lot of violence at night in these places.

Chance1 I agree with you. I think this thread was kinda meant to be light, but some do seem to take it as serious political dialogue, but maybe it's just me.

Ooh brother must I KNOW everything like Kuli...LOL....Look up WhataBurger, West Columbia, South Carolina......Google is not the KING of search Engines ya'know....If Google didnt bring up the locally owned location here then use another freaking search engine to find it....

What I find interesting is that Aldi's is located in an upper-middle-class side of town...

Hmmmm, interesting point. Question, though.....is the upper middle class side of town also the OLDER AND POSSIBLY RETIRED PERSON part of town? The reason I ask is that, when Aldi's first opened in PA years ago, it was pitched toward the older generation in terms of price, selection, etc. They actually marketed to those living on social security and was conveniently located in an area that was considerably "grayer" than those around it. Could that be the case maybe down there?

Older but deff not retired....and now that I think about it, it is right across the street from the most popular Fitness Center in that area...And a Huge Manufactoring-plant is nearby as well.....So they put some thought into it before they put it there.........

I'll continue to eat and shop where ever I want. I don't give a rat's ass of their political leanings.

Depends on what is the best value and what tastes the best to me.

I like Trader Joe's (and sometimes their poor step-child ALDI's) -- the only Cherrio(r) knockoff that doesn't upset my stomach -- plus it's $1.99 for an old-style big box. The coffee is a little more expensive -- but it's good. The place is clean, the people are helpful and pleasant and the prices aren't bad.

I'll be happy when Kansas finally changes their liquor laws -- the place will be a little less crowded.

White Castle left here years ago --- just how much onion juice can you stand? yuck

Don't know if you have Sonic where you live -- it's a great place -- out late after drinking -- foot long chili cheese coney. yum, yum

McCormick and Schmidts and their MS Grill are both great places to eat and have fun.

Oh please. The south is hardly a shining example of anything. The highest unemployment, the highest amounts of institutional corruption... business friendly environments... more republican jibber jabber.

Wow, you really showed him and made a lie of his "pissing contest" remark didn't ya?

He said that before he got into "my state has a bigger d*ck then yours" argument... I mean better business "environment" (whatever that means). It's true. I don't care for the South and the economic doldrums they continue to be in. Or the high levels of corruption that permeates throughout their local governments. Bell, California has nothing compared to what goes on in some of those states.

tail between legs + take a break + PM Sammie "my bad" is my advice

and I love this thread btw

i was in a subway today - late lunch sorta in purgatory .......

flat bread 6" buffalo chicken - jack cheese - spinach - tomatoes - pickles and onions
salt & vinegar low fat chips
soda
$5 special

i like a good deal

I myself said there launch in the US was quite expensive and that they would spin off the store. But you haven't read anything I wrote. It'll probably be sold to another firm, but the bones are there for a profitable business.

F&E's impending collapse? LMAO. Where do you get that from? They'll spin off the store and it'll be sold to another grocer most likely. It's highly unlikely they'll brand itself will collapse.

Which I find silly. There are car manufacturers in California too. Develop strong businesses? Is that why Southern states suffer from some of the worst economic numbers in the entire country? I mean even California is better then the South.

And based on your illogical rants, I don't think you have much of an idea about California at all. This Fresh Market crap won't catch on, especially when you have better stores like Trader Joes. Again the south can keep their bigotry funded businesses... to themselves.

By the way Trader Joes, which has reported strong growth figures and wide profit margins is based in no other then PASADENA, CALIFORNIA.

Most Innovative Companies: Trader Joe's

If you want a profitable company, this PASADENA BASED CHAIN is it. Fresh Market is far from it.

10 States With The Worst Economic Security

While California ranks on this list of the 10 states with the WORST economic security, it ranks at 6th. Mississippi ranks #1, Arkansas #2, Alabama #3, Florida #4, Georgia #5, South Carolina #7, West Virginia #8... so what does that leave? 7 out of the 10 states worst off economically in this country are in the South. Don't even begin to tell me this describes a good "business" atmosphere. Overall these states are deep in the doldrums. California at least has the infrastructure and the giant status to rebound strongly. Best business friendly environment ensures absolutely nothing and is nothing more then conservative talk.

Dude, seriously, take some business classes. They'll teach you first that business sense is about the objectives not the subjectives. And, be careful tossing around the Huff Post as a reliable business source.

Do we really want to get into a 'pissing contest' about West vs SE economics right now. I can find you 10 lists and all of them would primarily be W and SE states assorted in some order...sad to say, but it's like splitting hairs on which region is most miserable. The 2 regions fueled the US economic slowdown and we'll have to be the ones to bring the country out of the despair. But, this wasn't a business mgmnt 101 problem...it's the result of 2 regions that are very popular with accelerated growth by transplants coming for jobs and warmer weather. while the banks were lending them dubious loans. It is the real estate/banking/construction sectors that is killing both regions. The higher you climb, the further you fall. The South averted the previous two recessions: early '90's & post-9/11. I know this one slammed us. But it is a slow down fueled primarily by real estate and construction (mainly in FL, GA and SC). Both regions have tons of construction-related workers who have no jobs to go to. In the old days, they could always move to another state, but it's not like any place has a boom in this sector. Also, so many northern companies keep their corporate offices in the North/Great Lakes, but they've moved their remaining workers to the business-friendly South. But with the downturn, many of the lower mgmnt/blue collar-type workers were axed. Finally, we've had some incredible bad breaks with the Gulf Oil Spill and hurricanes setting back our region.

Btw, I'm not an expert on Cali, but I know most of my adult life, they're always stuggling with their economy, taxes, cost of living, and bitching and moaning about everything in between rolling blackouts and exhorbant EPA regulations. How much time have you spent in Dixie? I know Pasadena (really like it) as I spent the entire humidity-free month of August there a few years ago. And from numerous trips, I've been from LA to Crescent City.

The South is a shining example of Low Taxes and less regulations for small business. Corruption? No idea what your talking about there...where do you get this stuff...quit watching The Dukes of Hazzard.

And lookout for those wacky southerns as you can see here, The Fresh Market has studied up on the Golden State...notice they don't even acknowledge F&E

Fresh & Easy Buzz: Fast-Growing The Fresh Market Chain On Track to Launch in California This Year

They really are salivating abouth the Bay area & the OC like it's a piece of fried chicken (organic, of course). Your Trader Joe data is meaningless and vague. They are a private company so one can only speculate (although I'd speculate that they do well). FM today is at $61, whereas it was $30 just 12 months ago. As for F&E, maybe it was just another case of rampant west coast irrational behavior (I've witnessed that lately). They opened 185 stores in 4 states in just a few years...now they're shuttering stores as fast as they open new ones. No wonder their expenditures were so high. They, too, need Business 101. Compare to FM who took 30 years to get to 120 stores/21 states. Much more controlled finances, real market analysis and cash to avoid the debt problems that British wild-child F&E sagged themselves with. Come to think of it, WalMart & CFa took the same approach to growth as FM. FM is a bigoted company? Again, just more irrational 'you're twisting my words' talk.

So, you'll take a marketing or business class now, right? Based on another thread, you might want to also take Understanding the US Healthcare System 101.

Ahhhhhhh....good one!

blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah California

You are the best, the smartest, the rightest, the awesomest at EVERYTHING
Your state is the best, the coolest, the grooviest, the awesomest in EVERY WAY
Your political opinions are the best, the rightest, the smartest, the awesomest in EVERY WAY
Your posts are the best, the smartest, the rightest the awesomest EVERY TIME

YOU ARE NEVER WRONG

We good now?

Funny thing is I LOVE CALIFORNIA...I love the West Coast...I love from Monterrey all the way to the Olympic Nat'l Park in NW Washington. I've driven almost the entire Pacific coast except south of LA. And if YOU had read my post, I talked about spending a month in Pasadena. You kept taking cheap shots at the South loaded with stereotypes. Do you just hate the world? I enthused that a really cool NC (not even my state) company was expanding to your area and then you went off like a grenade .

Ethics, envirnoment. Well, we have less govt regulations (going back to business friendly) and less taxes. We don't have a big, fat state bureaucracy to run every part of either public or business life. Calif is all about amendments and propositions and layers upon layers on govt. All the rules and govt do not entice most industries. That's the downside of most states that believe in big govt. There is a reason why states like FL and TX are pushing past CA and NY in growth rates. They do a better job of luring industry. And while my knowledge of CA is 'superficial', you're knowledge of the south is stereoypical

Listen to yourself, you are actually having a pissing match about WHO has the better state. What are you, nine fucking years old?

And where are you getting the crazy idea that he's a Republican? He's not!

Getting a sense of humor already and stop yipping like a lap dog every time somebody disagrees with you.

Most of that talk about smaller government this, less regulation (more corruption and bribery) is GOP talk...

He's doing the exact same thing with me when I say something. He's misrepresented California on various occasions.

If u actually read Sammie's post - you'd know that he's not a Republican - and he thinks Mittens is a stiff

for you balanced = republican

twisted

Don't dance around the topic or you'll be in trouble.
