The Queen is Dead. Long live the King.

It's a tragic story in a way. Camilla was the only woman he ever wanted to marry, but when it was marrying time for him, neither the rest of the family nor the Church of England (ironically) could accept him marrying a divorced woman.

That's a bit mixed up. The family maybe but not the church was against Charles marrying Camilla in the first place. Second time around, after they were both divorced (and Diana was dead), the church was against (in a bland Church of England sort of way) Charles marrying a divorcee , but the family (particularly following the death of the Queen Mother in 2002) was generally accepting of it.

Unsurprisingly, the majority of Canadians are completely indifferent to Chuck's coronation.

We have no strong relationship since Pierre Trudeau was PM and the Queen was part of the ceremonies around the creation of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and rest of the Canadian Constitution in 1982.

We also had Andrew at Lakefield College but we know how he turned out.

The Crown serves an incredibly important role in our government by ensuring that we have an invisible Head of State with no power, versus the showboats that are elected in other parliamentary democracies.

But I doubt if many Canadians would show up for the petulant monarch and his dreadful wife if they deigned to visit and the next king and his wife seem to be as uninterested in Canada as we are in them.

The King's first state visit to France has been postponed at the request of the French because of pension protests. The French government is increasing the retirement age from 62 to 64 and the locals are rather unhappy about it. The UK government increased the pension age from 65 to 68 a few years ago and I don't recall very much reaction at all.

Its an ill wind that doesn't bring some good, I guess.

I'll have to think of titles to bestow on those in our household when I die as well. Certainly our vet should also be recognized.

It’s been refreshing to see the insane British tabloids take their sights off Harry & Megan for a second and focus on William & Kate lol

Meanwhile, while Chuck and his doxy hire their communications director from the Daily Mail, Harry returns to Britain to join with a slew of other celebs to take down the Daily Mail for illegal information gathering.

I don't think there's a lot of excitement here in Blighty either to be honest. The Queen's funeral seems to have satisfied the nation's appetite for pageantry for a long time to come. Nobody had witnessed anything on that scale before, so the wisest thing is not to try to outdo it but to keep it modest. Even so, it promises to be a sort of "encore that nobody asked for".

What is to be excited about? If Chuck and Kween Cameltoe were considerate, they would have blended this with their state funerals and be done with it. Even my Brit relatives and friends just see them as seat fillers...although none of them see William and Kate as being much more.

Coronations, celebrating the lucky sperm club are totally passe and somehow, vulgar.

The event will be attended by all kinds of arriviste, made up 'royals' from the middle east and dozens of the remnant sprog of the Habsburgs and the Hanoverians.

ugh.

I am saddened that Harry is finally getting his daddy's hair. I have been hoping for a very long time that he would be spared.

They're dropping Queen Consort in favour of Queen Camilla:

Obviously they have market tested this and found that the generation that still gives a shit about what the Windsors do, like the idea of having a Kween instead of a mere consort...which kind of sounds as shabby as she is.

I suspect perhaps this was in exchange for her not ever putting a claim to the throne forward for her own son?

Although I wouldn't trust her for a minute not to hang onto the throne when Chuckles shucks off the mortal coil and refuse to hand Buck Place over to Wills and Kat.

Complete nonsense!

So apparently was the agreement that she would only ever be styled as Consort and not Kween.

And tongues will wag as to whether her son, older than Wills isn't one of Chuck's sprog.

We are talking about one of the most ruthlessly ambitious women in the realm, who has been rehabilitated and elevated beyond her wildest dreams.

Have you given any thought to doing consulting work for the British tourism industry?

It kind of puts the finger right on it doesn't it? Britain's monarchy is a cash cow for tourism. And as they say, there' no bad press. Some might even think that the Battenburg/Mountbatten/Windsor dynasty keeps the gutter press roiling with stories of their trashy lives just to keep the ticket sales up. Without them, England will only be able to show off the State digs like Windsor and Buck Place as relics of an faded imperial past.

But the Harry/Meghan feud, the breathless anticipation around a coronation and future royal coffinatings keeps the spark alive for thousands of people.

I think the Palace probably plays this all for the eyeballs. It is all theatre. Like a Maury Povich free-for-all.
