It is my opinion as an AMERICAN that they've chosen the worst possible time to come to here (or the USA). I guess I could produce a calendar as evidence. I'd circle the 4th of July with a red marker and add their itinerary to the calendar as well.

Actually, I think it's kind of cool that the monarchy of a past empire we belonged to can come visit us on our Day of Independence and that two nations can connect together in friendship when once there was war. It's not the "Ultimate Slap to Americans' Face," rather it's a testament to how far we have come as civilizations, allies, and human beings.

It seems really strange to me that LL, self-proclaimed defender of democracy, should have a problem with a pair of monarchs-in-waiting, who have probably thirty years of time on their hands until they're the real thing, asserting that they shouldn't be allowed the same freedom of choice and movement as other people.

There are so many inaccuracies here.

The Duke of Cambridge is not the Head of State; he's the Head of State's grandson.

The UK does have a constitution; it just doesn't have one which is written down in one place.

The USA was never part of the British Empire. Certain eastern states were individually British colonies, some of which (eg Virginia and Carolina) were actually named in honour of British sovereigns. Interestingly enough, these states have not been renamed in the 230+ years since independence.

The Duke and Duchess are actually visiting California I believe and that certainly was never part of the British Empire. I hope Lostlover doesn't hear about any visiting Spanish dignitaries. That would really finish him off.
