We had some threads back in the first Trump term about the impact of the US withdrawal from international bodies.

The US is one of the few democracies not to be bound by the rules of the ICC for many years.

And now we are back to the US withdrawing from the Paris Accord and the World Health Organization.

And in essence, the US will be withdrawing from the NAFTA 2.0 treaty.

As well, there is always the constant threat that the US will pull out of NATO and if they don't in fact, Trump's plan is to wreck it.

Zelenski spoke to his European counterparts to urge them to create a new defensive alliance, because he sees that Trump is going to throw Europe to Putin.

As this continues of course, the US loses many connections and any influence in the work of these bodies. Much to the delight, I am sure of the Christian Nationalists in the US and those in the background who are looking for the US to become a weaker influence in interanational affairs.

Over the next 4 years, there will likely be many of these isolationist moves by the TrumpCo. cabal.

Let's watch and discuss as things fall apart to see if the rest of the western world and Asia are ready to move on and just recreate some of these institutions.

I posted this in another thread, but the WHO didn't waste time updating their map.

There are various conversations happening right now about the loss of US participation in the WHO...from what happens when 20% of the organization's funding vanishes overnight to greater freedom for other nations to be free of the potentially heavy handed white Christian Nationalist agenda.

Fortunately, I suppose, the headquarters are in Switzerland, so even though shuttering the building in Washington will be a huge upset to organizational operations, likely many people orking there will be able to relocate to other regional offices in other countries depending on their level of expertise.

Just as likely, China and some other countries will fill the vaccum with more of their own appointees.

There are six regions with offices though, and Washington was the base for North America.

There is some thought that the regional office may need to shift to Canada or South America, or divided for North and South American continents in those locations.

But with the effective strangulation of the NIH and CDC, the US will lose an entire generation of Health Care expertise.

^^to say nothing of exposing that same generation to diseases that have supposedly been eradicated, as well as new strains of current diseases, such as COVID ](*,)

Unsurprised, I guess.

I expect the US to withdraw from everything but the UN Security Council over the next four years and only stay there to veto anything that is critical of the Trump regime. The idea that Trump and his billionaire bros. would give a shit about human rights is risible.

It is a sign of the diminishing stature and confidence of the US that it is more or less withdrawing from the G20...and likely next, from G7 meetings.

TrumpCo. is weakening the position of the US in the world every day. Rzzzia already basically owns South Africa. So well done Rubio.

That just means Marco won't go, even odds if he'll even be in that job at the time or if someone else just goes.

This is probably as suitable place as any to share this.

If you want to understand the depths of feeling among Canadians across the country right now, this piece from the Vancouver Sun says it all.

As another week passes, more and more of us are feeling that this time, the damage to our relationship as friends and partners is different than previous slights and disagreements.

We used to be eager to find a way to make things right between us. Not any more.

Opinion: Farewell to my American friends. It's over.

Pete McMartin: Where there was once admiration, there is now a firm and angry resolve. Schoolyard bullies don’t want to be buddies. They want your lunch. Read more.

It's one thing to hate on Toad and the horde but painting us all as "schoolyard bullies" even though a whole lot of us are just as angry about the exact same things is doing exactly what Toad does best. Grandstand and obfuscate and never get more than halfway to an actual fact.

Working with us to get rid of Toad is a much better path to follow than throw up your hands and piss on everyone. Canadians who think that way will even like their part in this because it means they get to stop buying anything American and ratchet up the pressure in the business community. When push comes to shove, and I'm sorry for this, but this is as much your problem as it is ours and taking your vacations in CUBA for spite, doesn't make it go away. For better or worse, we can't ignore one another. That goes for Mexico too.

I am just posting about the general feeling here. And let's be clear. One third of Americans love Trump and his agenda. One Third of Americans apparently don't care. And most of the other third isn't doing anything. And that includes my own American friends and family who seem to be taking the 'lie low' approach.

In fact, this past week, talking to one of our friends in the US, they more or less said that their approach was 'It is only for the next four years'...

The only thing Canada has to fight with are countervailing duties, withdrawing our dollars and in the worst case, literally fighting against a military incursion or a soft invasion.

We are all eager to hear from Americans on how we can help to stop, not only TrumpCo. but the oligarchs behind him and the GQP who basically are the party of Trump.

Any suggestions are welcomed, but we know how asymmetrical this relationship is. We have the resources and a small population. The US has a large population and and apparently a taste for imperialism. And I am not reading or hearing anything from Americans to make us feel better about this.

How does Canada help? Youu stop buying American. You make sure Canadian politicians who are flirting with the horde do not get elected, even in Alberta. You keep standing your ground. You give those of us who f9ight moral support. You be the better man and give us all an example to follow.

The corporatists are not "American" they are global, and you fight them in the same way. Stop patronizing their products as far as we are able. Buy local, say fuck you to wal mart.

This is exactly what we are doing. We are actively working against Musk contaminating our politics and elections.

We are scouring the markets and excluding the global corps in favour of local corps. I see a flood of challenges to ads on line with Canadians questioning whether even Canadian means Canadian made or does it mean processed in Canada.

The turn around this time is stunning. Canadians at this point will do without or find any other alternative to American products and markets. As I noted, with a stroke (maybe 100) of my keyboard, I have excluded some millions of dollars of American products from our projects in favour of Mexican, Asian, European or South American sources.

More on this.

We will be standing our ground.

So this is the leadership that was needed back in 2014 and in 2022.

The US is losing Europe...and although Trump doesn't care because he is going to align with the Kremlin, the impact will be long lasting in the defense and security sectors.

Hopefully as Trump comes to grips with the notion that they are telling him to Fuck Off, he'll realize that they are moving to make him and the US irrelevant as a trusted partner.

Well, in all fairness, South Africa is doing some very bad things to their minority population...

Seriously? Seriously? Seriously?

GTFOOH.

I'm American (always lived around the south area of the Great Lakes, and western Illinois), and agree unabashedly with the editorial in the Sun. The USA is no longer the shining city on the hill, but yet another rogue nation, but in this case it's also a nation that hates this entire planet and those who inhabit it. This is likely not to end well.

I've warned people about 2025 for at least four years, and it's all becoming true even faster than I ever imagined. The USA has already been the subject of so many missteps that this is likely never again to be a "wonderful" country. We're not even a month into the new guard yet.

Thank you rareboy for continuing to be the voice of reason. (And, meeting you briefly three months ago was so cool. I wish your other half could have met with us, too.)

So the US mounted a charm offensive tour this week in Europe.

Wait. I mean an offensive tour in Europe this week.

Hegseth and Vance managed to offend and shock everyone with their nakedly anti-western European and pro-Rzzzn remarks.

This is all pretext of course for the US to withdraw from NATO, seize Greenland and Canada and allow the Kremlin to march across Europe again.

It will be fun for Americans living in Europe and visiting this year.

Even Scholtz wasn't having this shit from the US. We all get it. Musk is a rabid NAZI.

And the Broligarchs want to relive those days when the corporations ruled Germany and set out to rule the world.

The US lost so much credibility this week that the Trump regime will likely start finding itself disinvited or downgraded at conferences.

How about if the US wants to appease Putin, instead of allowing him to expand Russian territory in Europe, just give him back that “historical Russian territory” currently known as Alaska.

Macron has called an emergency meeting of the leaders of European democratic countries on Monday to discuss the response to TrumpCo.'s pronouncements at the Munich conference.

I think that behind the scenes, Trump and the US may have issued other communiques or threats that have the Europeans concerned.
