its not true!

UAC only happens when you install a new program

this ad is hypocritical mainly because OSX has a similar application  OSX Authentication anyone?

At the beginning these ads were clever and funny but now all they seem to do now it try to attack Microsoft

Why?
If a Mac is so good why dont they have Mac ads about macs or osx or something

Pretty much all of them are stupid, biased, and just plain wrong. I don't think the content of their commercials really makes any difference, mac users will always see them and think "yeah, we're so great, we're perfect, and I've got a huge mac boner", while the rest of the world sees them and says "that's why I don't want a mac".

When you have to lie to sell your product, the product sucks. Simple as that.

The ads are doing their job: Mac computer sales up 101% in January.

Well done Apple. ..|

Notice this part:
Meanwhile, a rise in the average selling price (ASPs) of Macs is reported to have driven even greater year-over-year dollar sales growth of 108 percent during the same time period, again, up from 55 percent in December.

In other words, it doesn't mean Mac is selling more computers, it just means people are dumb enough to spend even more money on them than they were before.

No? Perhaps you'd like to tell me what the 101% increase in "mac unit sales" refers to, then?
it just means people are dumb enough to spend even more money on them than they were before.
People aren't dumb for wanting to buy alternatives.

I converted to a Mac before seeing these commercials, I did it based on views from other convertees. I am glad I converted after being with windows since its invention. I would not have converted before the core 2 duo Intel processor was adopted.

I agree that ads that attack the opposition appear lame but having used one I begin to appreciate them particularly as I have day to day contact with XP. The most common questions I am asked with XP are "why has it decided to.....?" "Why won't it let me......?"

Ok so I am dumb to spend a bit more on a system that allows me to do what I want without wasting hours psychoanalyzing the bloody thing. Having a computer capable of running any O/S I care to put on it. Having a computer without a plateload of spaghetti hanging out of the back. Having a system that works straight out of the box. Having a system where software installation takes seconds as opposed to many minutes and restarts. Having a computer that takes 25 seconds to boot.

I guess I am dumb then, I never was a good masochist ;)

The ads are stupid, they even had the whole look, by putting a good looking guy as the Mac and (in the gay community) a not so attractive guy as the PC. But I find the PC guy more attractive than the Mac guy in my personal opinion. I like both Mac and PC but jeez enough is enough with the commercials. It's getting so old seeing these commercials where Mac beats the living shit out of the PC for sales.

I think it's just Mac's way of being immature to sell a product, when I usually see Windows Vista commercials do you see them making a dumb ass commercial "Vista is better than Mac, our interface is better than Mac" Enough! Damn!

It works. It's called advertising. Marketing.. whatever. Well, apple has succeeded and compare apple adverts to microsoft adverts, aesthetically and effectivity wise.. Well, apple's the clear winner.

Then again I haven't use vista. I don't want to. It's called competition. and I guess if apple and windows were to produce ad campaigns, it would be "competitive" and would target each other like any other advertisement you see on tv. But then again, windows can't say a thing about Macs, but apple could say something about windows...

So what would microsoft say to apple?

Yeah I agree. The Mac guy isn't a good actor.. Someone's better for the part. PC Guy does a good job representing the pc! Anyway that's my 2c.

It's a smart move by apple. I agree! Anyway, then again, I'd say if windows were to make an ad they couldn't target apple.. I mean, they don't have any bullets!

Oh and look at that Vista Ad! Oh my...
1st, the white backbround... 2nd the people jumping around with BTW BAD transitions. BAD.
It's boring! It's not effective. And look at the windows logo, it's nice and glossy. Very aqua.

Just Something... Windows aesthetics... compare it to apple
This video is actually a nice study / analysis of microsoft design

Really funny!
So design people out there you'll enjoy this one.. Well if you just appreciate what's beautiful then you'll get this video.

but they could target apples ads which usually stretch the truth

but the retail box for vista looks great

to bad i have the OEM version oh well $300 for a box ins't good value anyway

Speaking of dumb commercials, though, have you seen what Microsoft is doing? They're easily as silly as the Apple commercials, and a lot less persuasive, IMO. I can't imagine how a bunch of politically-correct people jumping around and spinning is going to sell an OS.

is that an actual ad for TV
because it looks like something they would show at a keynote or something it isn't even targeted at there consumers which for a TV ad would not be good

Hate to say it guys,

but half the things in those mac vs pc adds, are kinda true. UAC can be a little overzealous and no, it doesn't pop up ONLY when installing a new program.

There are problems with mac, and there are problems with PC's. I enjoy the adds because one is taking the piss out of the other, and its amusing.

The Mac ad and the Vista ad above demonstrate the difference between the two products & companies perfectly. The Mac ad is short and sweet, simple, fun, kinda cool, young, uncomplicated. The Vista ad is too long, so full of text it's just boring (what the hell did most of that stuff mean anyway?) and trying desperately to LOOK cool but just doesn't really get there.

It's natural that the marketing of Apple addresses Windows, but Windows do not similarly draw comparisons. Any smaller niche product needs to compare itself to the larger competition. It's like a small grocery store advertising in a town with a big supermarket as competition. The smaller guy has to prove why you shouldn't use the bigger guy. The bigger guy doesn't want to remind you about the little guy, he just wants to keep you coming back.

Well... Those streaky graphics (feathery looking light streaks)on the box do look familiar though...

But then again... If you think about it, if microsoft target ads through ads... Doesn't sound good to me. It's like desperation if they do that.

No, they're dumb for paying twice or more as much for a device that does exactly the same thing. Alternatives are great when they are competitively priced.

Well, apple's the clear winner.
You couldn't be more wrong. Microsoft is by FAR the winnner. Microsoft makes BILLIONS of dollars more than apple does. Not millions, BILLIONS!

You are comparing apples to oranges. That is NOT a microsoft TV ad. Microsoft TV commercials are 30 seconds just like Apple's are.

You guys are totally missing a key point here. Microsoft is only selling operating systems, while Apple is selling computers. Their advertisements are not meant to compete in any way. Microsoft is only advertising Vista to people who already own a PC and want to upgrade it. Almost all PCs come preloaded with windows, so they do not need to advertise to that market. They leave the advertising of the computer itself up to the companies who make them. The ads you need to compare Apple's to are the ads for Dell, HP, Toshiba, etc.

For those that are delusional enough to think Mac is somehow better or has "won" any kind of competition, tell me, why does Dell alone sell more PCs than all the computers Apple sells? Dell isn't the only company selling PCs either, if Apple is so much better then how come most people, businesses, and schools do not buy them?
