Google suggests, 'sustainability', 'suicide', 'slut', 'significance', 'sin', ... etc
... none of which seem on quite the same level as, "The N-word"; "The F-word"; or "The C-word". :confused:

The answer is probably staring me in the face and I'm just too 'slow', 'simple', 'stupid', or 'senile', to see it. #-o

Anyway, I live in a mobile home, in the winter some folks have trouble with pipes freezing. One company printed a flyer and left it at our doors,
it read: WE UNTHAW FROZEN PIPES


When I was a toolmaker I constantly heard "I can't unloosen this".

Whenever I hear someone (for example, the current US president) use the word "folks", I recall that in "Elements of Style" Strunk thought the word "folksy" and therefore best avoided.

Speaking of politicians and folksy, it drives me UP THE WALL when US politicians start dropping final g's as in "comin' " rather than "coming" in an attempt to be seen as "regular folk". Do British politicians have similar vocal mannerisms?

Thanks to one of the new "earbud[s/z]" guys now I know that one can write "aloud" when actually "allowed" is meant ……… (post in question vanished unfortunately).
