I said ones that SOLELY BASH RELIGION, and what do you do? You link me to threads that were started about religion - one asking a question about belief(a question i've always had myself - but Catholics have their own problems), and one talking about his religion and the effects. So already, you're not listening.

I really don't care what the thread turned into, hell, everyday in hot topics, a thread about something that may be serious gets turned into a self serving party, or a funny thread gets turned into "oh that's not funny i'm so offended please call me a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaahbulance" or something like that. And besides - those threads are in a NO-FLAME ZONE. Hit the report post button if you're offended. That's what it's there for.

I don't go into the religious section because i am an atheist - that'd be like a vegan going into a thread talking about the best way to cook the perfect steak. Unneeded and a waste of time.

If you wanted to "prove a point" you woulda pulled up the recent thread by Negasta - that would have been a valid point. The other thread, i haven't read yet.

But please don't continue to play the victim role. It's getting really, really sad now.

I really do not care what you think. I am not "playing the victim". I made a valid point which some people agreed with and others apparently do not. Such is life. If you do not like what I write, then put me on ignore. Otherwise stop bitching!

Being black and gay, I've sat on the bus and listened to people rant about "stupid, lazy blacks" and "immoral gays" with vigor and passion. I'm not trying to "mold" JUB, actually I am. I try at every attempt to make people feel uncomfortable about using free speech to excuse bashing groups that in fact make up a bulk of JUB members. I see how ineffective my brazen style is, so I'm working on adopting a more friendly "character" but my intent remains the same, to get people to consider before they post (I realize the irony that I haven't always done the same. My problem isn't bashing anti-gay groups, it's that it NEVER is limited to anti-gay groups, it becomes "all Christians are" and "all religion is." Imagine if, while still catholic and discovering your sexuality, you log on here for the first time to read thread after thread about gay vs. religion as if the two aren't able to merge. Many gays find comfort in religion and, like most, simply mold it to fit their lives. Imagine being overweight and logging on to read list after list of "things we don't like about big people." I see no difference whatsoever between sitting on a bus and ranting about blacks or gays, and logging on here and ranting about ALL religion or bears/daddies, except here it's damn near cannibalism since the ranting is directed towards groups that make up a portion of JUBers. I never once imagined a site about gays would be so anti-everything. Anti-fat, anti-religious, anti-this, anti-that. We're searching for our niche in society, but insist on dividing ourselves from entire groups because of a few extremists.

But correct me if I am wrong. But is it not the extremists that are being bashed? Like you mentioned before from what I have seen in "Hot Topics" is a link to some anti-gay christian group, and then the bashing begins? Like I said I have never been to the religion and spirituality forum so I can't speak for what goes on in there.

Wait. That's too broad a question. Let's make it simple.

1. Should government limit access to pornography (involving images of nude adults or consensual sex between adults)?

2. How do you feel about consensual sex between two adults of the same sex?

Any Conservative Christians or Stephen Harper supporters, please feel free to respond.

1. If by limiting access you mean in order that children are not able to see it, then yes of course. If you mean limiting access simply for the sake of limiting it because of its perceived vulgarity and the generally offensive (again, perceived) nature of its content, then no. Those who do not find it offensive should be able to access it whenever they please.

2. If it is consensual, and conforms with their own belief system, then I'm all for it.

Frankly if I was a "conservative gay christian", I wouldn't spend my days getting upset at people who have been used and abused by "conservative gay christians", but rather spending that time trying to help my own religious believers to stop their hateful behavior.

Showing up at JUB and getting pissy at many people who have lost their entire families due to shunning, been sent to electro-shock exgay treatments, have been told for decades they are going to hell are sinners, abominations and all sorts of things. People who have been physically assaulted in the name of "god" by those very same "conservative christians". It would be like showing up at a support board for sexual abuse & incest survivors and getting mad when your threads about your fantasies for twin brother sex, or rape fantasies aren't "respected". For everything there is a time and a place.

Much like homophobes, I've found that people who get upset over people questioning their religion, is because they have doubts themselves, and it makes them angry to confront such feelings.

The problem with what you say is, first of all you are generalising. All Christians are not conservative, and even among those who are, they are not all hate filled homophobes. If you have never been amongst us then of course you cannot POSSIBLY know this. So much easier to criticise from afar...

I do not know any of the people to whom you refer. I did not do these things to those people. I do not belong to a church or family that would do those things, so I have NOTHING to be ashamed about.

This forum provides for the discussion of religion and so it is entirely appropriate that a religious person would participate. Sorry if that disappoints you, but there is nothing to be done about it.

Equating my participation here with the disgusting examples you posited is a great example of just how ignorant people who hate those of us who are religious can often be. The intolerance and bigotry astound me.

And as far as your observations regarding people who question their faith, I have no idea what sort of people you are acquainted with. But I can assure you that while I question certain aspects of my Church at odd intervals, my FAITH in GOD is unwavering and steadfast and nothing that a bunch of hateful bigoted religion bashing bitter queens can say or do will ever change that.

but obviously pro-Christian isn't as popular on this site as anti-Christian. Much like in real life, people here are more anxious to rant than to support. The threads that bash often get more attention than those that attempt to unite.

But again, it is the extremist that are being bashed, no one came into that thread and said " Aw thats nice but they are christian so I hate them"

I wouldn't think that anyone would have a problem with the couple you spoke about in that first thread, however unfortunately those are not the christians we generally here from, and there lies the problem. In my humble opinion.

OK, why is it that when I'm clicking through the different pages, every second or third thread is all about how evil Conservatives and Christians are, and how hateful they are, etc.

That feeling isn't coming from thin air you know. We're responding to the hate projected at us.

I'm a Conservative Christian, and this whole thing is just giving me the impression that most gay people are nothing but hateful crybaby bitches who think the world owes them a favour.

I have a feeling you don't think gays are normal people. Even though I doubt you think its a choice to be gay, you seem to be brainwashed to think that because you're gay you don't deserve the same rights as a straight person. And that you should just shut up and not fight for what is rightfully yours as a human being.

So I suppose you think the blacks shouldn't have demanded civil rights during the 50's and 60's and should have just shut up and got used to their lot in life?

I believe in God, and I voted for Mr. Harper and the Conservative Party in the last election. Does that mean i'm not welcome in the gay community because i don't believe exactly what you all believe?

Don't be so dramatic. If you're gay you're gay, and you're part of the "community" whether you like it or not. And I for one don't care what you believe, as long as you don't try to push those beliefs on other people.

I know there's a lot of people in here who don't think Conservative Christians are walking trash, but there's a lot more who do.
