On-Topic Trump Bans Syrian Refugees

Why ask me a question if you are just going to tell me what you want to hear?

Let's face it, you'll do your best to avoid logic.

You dismissed gun deaths just above.
Funny that's not a concern, given the risk of death in the USA at the hands of a refugee from one of the banned countries is infinitesimally tiny compared to a US citizen.

Somehow that's nothing to lose sleep over. But immigrants? Waaaaah!

It is amazing that with tens of thousands of murders every year of people in the US at the hands of family members, angry neighbours, jealous lovers or pissed of drug dealers.....the killing of anyone by an islamic extremist would be the thing that keeps people up at night.

Killings by refugees: none.

There are 15,000+ homicides each year in the USA.
That's a quarter million people killed since 2001.
The worst ever terrorist attack in history killed 3000. The attack was not conducted by anyone in the banned countries list.
The second worst terrorist attack in US history was conducted by an American.

Talk about priorities.

You do realise that white American people are killing each other more than same race people in other developed countries, if you're wanting to be superior to other races?

I want to pleasure you right now.

The administration should just realize at this point that they completely botched the implementation of this 'temporary' ban and move on, focusing instead on getting out the changes they want to make to the vetting process. But Trump hates to lose so watch them drag this out in the courts in a fight that will last far longer than the temporary ban would have.

Ha! If I got outraged every time someone got shot, I'd have no time to sleep. How about trying to prevent the future spread of hatered and violence against gays, against women, against non-believers?

The best way is to vote Republicans out of office.

They're not being violent and lethal toward these minorities, and others such as the homeless or handicapped...YET. It's going to take them a while to pack the Justice system with sympathetic judges who will cheerfully allow it.

They want their own version of Sharia Law...which may be every bit as severe as ISIS.

Worth repeating....

That most of the perpetrators of 9/11 were Saudis, I remain perplexed that Saudi Arabia is not on Trump's list.

The noteworthy Oklahoma City bombers...white American terrorists.. Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols..killed 168 people, and injured more than 680 people.

Hopefully this will teach TrumpCo. a badly needed lesson. Their sloppiness was one of the reasons the order has been suspended...

Shifting interpretations of executive order’

(The Judges) were scathing on the confusion that surrounded the rights of lawful permanent residents caught up in the travel ban:
We cannot rely upon the government’s contention that the executive order no longer applies to lawful permanent residents …

Moreover, in light of the government’s shifting interpretations of the executive order, we cannot say that the current interpretation by White House counsel, even if authoritative and binding, will persist past the immediate stage of these proceedings.

And since it was a 3-0 decision, Trump does not have the excuse of claiming it was 'political'.

Hopefully the SCOTUS will uphold this decision.

Even if Trump tries to get an emergency hearing before the Supreme Court, at best he will get a 4-4 decision, because Gorsuch wouldn't be seated yet and the initial thinking is that one of the central arguments made by TrumpCo. would be their undoing.

The government contends that the district court lacked authority to enjoin enforcement of the executive order because the president has ‘unreviewable authority to suspend the admission of any class of aliens’ …

The government has taken the position that the president’s decisions about immigration policy, particularly when motivated by national security concerns, are unreviewable, even if those actions potentially contravene constitutional rights and protections …

There is no precedent to support this claimed unreviewability, which runs contrary to the fundamental structure of our constitutional democracy.

7 ways the Ninth Circuit Threw Shade at TrumpCo. summarizes the key notes of their decision.

While Trump claimed to be the smartest person in the room this week when he read out the sections of an Act that he thought gave him imperial powers.....seems he might have not read the whole textbook on immigration and the powers of the president.

So, some here say Trump's words are harmless, that they don't influence people either in the United States or Canada let alone around the world. Trump's words incite hatred and violence:

SEATTLE — When a judge who helped derail President Donald Trump's travel ban was hit with online threats, the abuse raised safety concerns among jurists across the country, and experts are worried that the president's own attacks on the judiciary could make judges a more inviting target.

Re: Trump- See you in court. Stupid. So sad.

As I recall...he was in court when he lost this past week.

An example of Trump's ignorance and stupidity-

How so?

Re: Trump- See you in court. Stupid. So sad.

^ I have to say...that as someone with no actual legal education that not only were the structural flaws in TrumpCo.'s grasp of law so shaky...but to somehow miss the fundamental underpinnings of America's tripartite system of checks and balances has had me shaking my head.

Particularly when Trump had so clearly not even considered all of the legal downside to the Executive Order. It was like he just literally didn't know that there could be grounds to challenge the Order or the substance of the order/

It wasn't even a case where he even seemed to anticipate that there could be any arguments against him and President Bannon.

Even I thought 'Wow. Stupid.'
