Crews in Alaska are searching for a plane that went missing with 10 people on board Thursday afternoon.

Alaska State Troopers received reports at 4 o'clock local time that a Bering Air Caravan heading from Unalakleet to Nome carrying nine passengers and a pilot was overdue, according to an online statement.

There was no early word on their identities.

It was the third major U.S. aviation incident in eight days. An American Eagle flight and Army Black Hawk helicopter collided and plunged into the Potomac River near Washington, D.C., on Jan. 29, killing all 67 people on the two aircraft. And a medical transportation plane crashed in Philadelphia on Jan. 31, killing the six people on board and one more on the ground.

The right wing of a Japan Airlines , opens new tab jet struck the tail of a Delta Air Lines plane while the aircraft were taxiing at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Wednesday, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The FAA paused some flights to the airport as a result of the incident that occurred around 10:40 a.m. local time (1840 GMT). The agency said it will investigate the incident.

The Delta 737-800 with 142 passengers was bound for Puerto Vallarta and was waiting for deicing when it was struck by the Japan Airlines Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner after it had landed from Tokyo. Delta said there were no reports of injuries and it will transfer passengers to another plane.

Delta said it will work with the FAA and others to investigate.

The Pentagon has a policy that details about servicemembers who are killed while in service are not disclosed to the public for 24 hours. The military has teams of soldiers who meet with families in person to notify the family of the death. The 24 hour news blackout policy allows time for these teams to meet with family members before any details are publicly released.

The morning after the 29-Jan-2025 helicopter crash, Hegseth was at the podium bright and early the next morning revealing that there were 3 soldiers killed and then he gave details about them. The helicopter crash happened at 9PM at night. It's doubtful that the notification teams had been able to do in-person notifications overnight.

Imagine if you were a family member who had not been notified and you heard someone on TV saying that "one of the dead is a young captain" and you had a relative who was a young captain who was a helicopter pilot?

Later that afternoon, apparently Hegseth was told that he fucked up because in the later press conferences, he said, "Not all kin have been notified, so we will withhold ranks and names, but we do know on our side who was involved. It was a fairly experienced crew and it was doing a required annual night evaluation and they did have night vision goggles.”
