Fortunately, the Federal government has no authority over schools. Hopefully, she will be able to end or reduce the feds meddling where they have no business and return full control of the schools to democratically elected bodies.

I think Devos was woefully unqualified, knowing next to nothing about public schools, but I will agree in part with this.

The federal department of education has accomplished next to nothing positive in its almost 4 decades of existence. Their most recent initiative, No Child Left Behind, was judged an unmitigated failure by both parties and repealed last year in a huge substantive education bill that passed in a year where virtually nothing substantive was passed by Congress.

Those of us who were able to attend university due to support from federal loan programs would not agree. The primary function of the the DOE is to oversee the $1.3 trillion student loan portfolio.

The DOE wasn't the author or proponent of NCLB. NCLB was a bipartisan bill that originated in the US Congress and was influenced by similar efforts in Texas by then Gov George W Bush.

Blaming the DOE for NCLB is like blaming your babysitter because your child is homely.

I felt that the Flynn debacle deserves its own thread....his flameout is only the beginning of a much grander take-down plan that will play out over months now as the intelligence communities, the Senate, the Congress and the Koch brothers move in for the kill.
