Pullleeeeze let him finally decide he will represent himself in Court.

^ And you know what they say about that:

"A man who represents himself in court has a fool for a client."

When the Democrats are in power, the House gets caught up in virtue signalling legislation when, if they had a plan, they could fix this problem with representation pretty easily. If Tuberville can get away with holding the military hostage over a single issue that he could never get the votes to change, then why can't Senate Democrats play hard ball for these big issues?

You know the answer to that very well: Manchin and Sinema won't play along, and we don't have enough Democrats in the Senate to offset their votes.

I don't know of any rule that legislative districts in Texas must contain the same number of people, which would seem to contradict the normal practice of packing minorities into fewer districts.

The rule would require the same number of living bodies in each district, with nothing about the color of those bodies.

I asked about this actually, and there are a couple of reasons that whatever intention was originally made, it doesn't reflect reality. First is juggling the Census data, undercounting or overcounting, and census intimidation like rumors that you'll be deported if you answer the census, the Census Bureau is just ICE in disguise, etc. Sometimes it's outright cheating since there is no enforcement protocol that doesn't go right through the most Republican Circuit Court in the country. Games are played with people's mailing addresses. Those are the main ones I remember but there are a bunch of little and moderate things that toe over the line legally that add up to one big thing, that is just legal sounding enough that give the appellate court judges cover.

Even so, they are having a much harder time of it these days and even Abbot can feel the water rising.

Which is why Puerto Rico and Washington DC need be admitted as States.

Since the days of Robert Byrd, West Virginia has been one of the biggest welfare states in the western hemisphere. For every dollar West Virginia sends to the Federal Government, it receives $3 back. Every time Joe Manchin opens his mouth, someone should ask, "Why do we need two Virginas?".

can you believe that he wrote notes and to-do lists to his executive assistant on the backs of classified documents? ](*,) ](*,)

Harvard constitutional law professor Laurence Tribe on Monday suggested Donald Trump had thrown his own defense in his election obstruction case “not just under a bus but under a freight train...”

That's what I thought.

Now the crook from New Jersey is piling on.

“Every time he opens his mouth, his lawyers must want to vomit,” Christie said on CNN on Monday...

That might feel satisfying in the short term, but it would just alienate Manchin (the last thing we need is for him to switch sides and give the gavel back to McConnell) and piss off West Virginia voters even more. It's not as if we can revoke West Virginia's statehood now ...

But why not? Do we need two Dakotas? Why is Wyoming a State when it has a little over 500K people (less than DC!)? At least West Virginia has 1.7 citizens in that tiny little plot of land, although comparatively the population of Los Angeles is nearly 4 million.

Joe Manchin has stayed in office as a Democrat for three reasons:
  • He is well-liked in his State
  • He likes attention and as long as he's the deciding vote, he gets lots of attention
  • Because he gets a lot of attention from the Dems, they allow his state to continue to get a disproportionate amount of Federal dollars

Perhaps if Manchin felt the Sword of Damocles over his head, he would be more of a team player?

He'd switch teams.
The Republicans want to defund every New Deal program that sends money to West Virginia. The Republicans already have West Virginia voters. They don't need Manchin.

And he'd be the RINO with no power in the Republican caucus. The only thing he really has in common with the power base in the Republican party is fossil fuel donors.

Manchin knows that his only power is to remain the difficult Democrat who can extort concessions when the Dems are in power. He proved that he has no cachet with the Republicans when he assured everyone that they would get on board with his gun bill after Sandy Hook. He's playing the same game that Murkowski and Collins used to play.

He's not going back on a Dem ticket, either he switches teams - no guarantee but a chance, or he has no voice at all, and his constituents elect a Republican anyway, over his corpse or any other Dems.

The other option is just to resign.

Anyway he could just go independent and caucus with that liar from Az.

He's not going to be re-elected any way but to become a 'Pub.

His latest extortion gambit is to threaten to run for President as a third party candidate under the No Labels banner.

Manchin is a another one who wants to be the bride at every wedding, the corpse at every funeral. My vote is that he can be the baby at every bris.
