Trump this.

(Bloomberg) -- Former President Donald Trump isn’t currently entitled to absolute immunity against civil lawsuits seeking to hold him responsible for the violence at the US Capitol during the Jan. 6 attack, a federal appeals court ruled...

No doubt there's ketchup all over the walls in Florida this week.

During a signature revved-up speech delivered in Iowa on Saturday, Donald Trump said the quiet part out loud — as the expression goes — during a key moment of the campaign event, declaring, "We've been waging an all-out war on American democracy," and the internet is having a field day with it...

It was bound to happen sooner or later. It's just funny and a little sad that no one is at all surprised. Watch the talking heads treat this like it was just a mis-spoken fumble. Then go be Collins-level concerned about Biden's age - even though as old as he might be, he's never been at war with American Democracy.

Trump always tells us exactly what he is doing...and people are numbed to it.

As you say, the media will treat this as a gaffe. They want Trump. He sells soap. Hating him or loving him...they know he draws viewers and readers.

Not all media, thankfully.

America survived the first Trump term, though not without sustaining serious damage. A second term, if there is one, will be much worse.

Editor’s Note: This article is part of “If Trump Wins,” a project considering what Donald Trump might do if reelected in 2024.

Like many reporters, I’ve been operating in Casaubon mode for much of the past eight years, searching for the key to Donald Trump’s mythologies. No single explanation of Trump is fully satisfactory, although Atlantic staff writer Adam Serwer came closest when he observed that the cruelty is the point. Another person who helped me unscramble the mystery of Trump was his son-in-law Jared Kushner. Early in the Trump presidency, I had lunch with Kushner in his White House office. We were meant to be discussing Middle East peace (more on that another time), but I was particularly curious to hear Kushner talk about his father-in-law’s behavior. I was not inured then—and am not inured even now—to the many rococo manifestations of Trump’s defective character. One of the first moments of real shock for me came in the summer of 2015, when Trump, then an implausible candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, said of Senator John McCain, “He’s not a war hero … I like people who weren’t captured, okay?”

And yet he stands a great chance of being re-elected by 37% of the voters because media keeps hammering away at Biden's age.

Magazines like the Atlantic are preaching to the choir. They write things for people who read. And know the dangers already.

I can't even begin to fathom what it would take to shift the needle at this point for 'undecided' voters.

And while rrrZZZia's influence on US politics and election interference is now well known...at the state level, there are so many risks because of all the deluded people who worship Orange Jesus (the actual anti-Christ?) and want a Dictator, not a democracy.

Along with the hand-wringing nervous nellies in the Democratic party who seem to be unable to produce a viable alternative.

One thing that The Atlantic has done is put together the pieces in a way that few media outlets have. Anne Applebaum's prescient articles have been very good at giving a more global view of autocracy and fascism, historically and in current day in European countries; her message is, "Don't think it won't happen to the US".

The problem isn't that The Atlantic puts out articles that have more than a couple of paragraphs and are only read by people who don't time their reading attention span to bowel movements. The problem is that most of our fellow Americans are getting their news fed to them on their phones via Twitter and Facebook. Congress seems unable to focus on important things like disinformation and social media and instead is more interested in Hunter Biden's laptop and virtual signaling. Congress also needs to fix the failed "mental health reforms" from the 1960s because it's become apparent that we have a large population of mentally unwell people who aren't getting the treatment that they need.

this is worse than downright scary

A federal appeals court in Washington largely upheld a gag order on Donald Trump in his 2020 election interference case on Friday, but narrowed the restrictions on his speech to allow the former president to criticize the special counsel who brought the case.

While I disagree with the narrowing of the gag order because it could heighten possible threats against Jack Smith as a result of Trump's incendiary attacks...at least the principle of the gag order is preserved and it provides some protection for all those who will be testifying.

How Trump must loathe Jack Smith. He is everything Trump is not graduated at the top of his law class at Harvard and then made a career in government instead of aiming for the big money. Trump on the other hand survives because of U.S. bankruptcy laws and bluster. In his heart Trump knows everyone would be a proud to have Smith as a son while only the hopelessly greedy and pathologically narcissistic would be proud of Trump.

The hopelessly greedy and pathologically narcissistic wasn't proud of Toad either.

"I don't like when people call me stupid. I had great heritage, an uncle who was a great, great genius, a father who was a genius. Everybad...everu....theyuwurallever…we have alatta geniuses. I don't like being called stupid. Is there a test or something I can take to prove to these radical left maniacs that I'm a lot smarter than them?"
