The difference between Germany and the USA is simple. Both major parties have reputable party leaders.

Europe is also going to have to become stronger and more unified. Germany is going to need to become more unified and less at the mercy of coalition governance.

The Kremlin already owns the leadership in a number of former countries it stole in the last century and billionaires and power mad right wing nationalists are all too eager to restore fascism across Europe.

The US is most likely to just pull the pin on providing any more military support to Ukraine and the resistance to Putin's invasion will collapse. Can Europe rally and provide the necessary military support to win the war? Likely not.

I have noted in another thread the prediction that Trump will move again to take the US out of NATO...it goes back to a deal he made with Putin and if by some stretch, this Congress blocks that move, he will weaken the US presence in NATO to destroy it from within.

Trump has already said that he will end the war before he is crowned King of Murica. He probably can make Ukraine buckle if the rest of the west doesn't step up in a way it has failed to do since 2022.

All now too little too late. By dribbling arms and equipment over the last 2.5 years and prohibiting the use of their long range weapons against rrrZZia, the US might as well not even bother...although we have to bear in mind that this aid is really all about being able to place orders for new stuff from the defense industry that forms one of the cornerstones of the US economy.

In the same article, it is reported that Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin rejected Zelensky's request to prioritize ATACMS deliveries to Ukraine over other orders. He told Zelensky that breaking long-standing agreements with other buyers would be too much to ask.

Good argument. But the AfD will not come into the federal government. Trump has over 50%, the AfD is at 17-18% in the polls. But they talk the same trash as Trump.

Ukraine is already abuzz with rumors the war is ending. My Ukrainian friend in Ireland told me earlier today.

If Zelenskii knows he is going to be forced to the table anyway, He may well do it now and steal Trump's thunder, robbing him of the glory. Afrer all, the West is going to pour billions in to rebuild Ukraine, and Biden is likely able to get that through even a lame duck Congress, at least in some form.

If we're facing it anyway, will be sweet to see Trump denied, just as he denied Obama and Biiden of gains they earned.

We'll see.
