Ultra-Orthodox Jewish Men Cause Flight Delay

My question is. Why can't they handle this before they get to the airport? Like when they buy their tickets.
they dont have to, everyone has to cowtow to their religious requirments. The man here probably felt that the woman in the seat shouldn't be allowed to fly at all. When I was on the police department we arrested this group of people on a regular basis because they would not even acknowledge a female police officer never mind cooperate with her...

Actually they probably thought it was already taken care of at the time the tickets were purchased. They were part of a large group, whatever agency they bought the tickets through likely dropped the ball.

In other words, the problem is entitlement. They felt entitled to special treatment while they're not. I know right-wingers have overused this term, but I haven't and I'm taking it back.

This has nothing to do with the equality of women...... What it deals with is the ideology that a man and woman who are not married should not be in physical contact, it does not denigrate either sex.

They did nothing to negate the rights of any of the women, just asked them to move seats, some likely more vehemently than others.

So yes, your insistence that they were trampling the rights of others is quite a ridiculous statement.

Oh come on, you know very well that in the old jewish tradition, and in the tradition of their christian and muslim copycats, women have to be kept away from men because they are lesser beings, and if they menstruate, they are even "unclean". Most christians may have shaken off this crap, but these guys haven't. Nor have the fundie muzzies who don't want their wives, mothers or sisters to give birth in the presence of a male doctor, nurse or midwife.

I cannot believe you defend them, being gay and all. Do you realize what they think of YOU?

If you ever bothered to actually read the Bible you would realize how idiotic you sound. It never even suggests women are inferior. As for being unclean, it was talking about their flow (as in blood) and ensuring NOT to have "contact" (of a sexual nature) until it has passed.

Oh, but I am not gay, I am bi. And I know full well what they think about that. For the most part they actually respond to me far better than many in the gay community do. So by your logic I should then be attacking all of you gays even more....... Got any more stupid shit to say? #-o

If you deny the sexism of the Old Testament, no wonder you also deny the homophobia of religion. You are choosing the wrong enemies. Your loss. Goodbye.

The computer can assign seats, but not on the basis of sex.It could seat the guys together, and that should have been taken care of. Now, of course, most airlines allow you to go on line and chose a seat in your class. but the choices are limited closer to the flight.

That might be true, but it is so easy for most people to offend Christians or Jews, but not so much with muslims. Let's just call it political correctness.

The real winners on JUB are the Hindus and Muslims and Wiccans. As long as the religion is perceived as metaphysical, the anti-religionists have nothing stuck in their craw. It's harmless. It derives from the "devil you know" syndrome was well as the ignorance of abuse in non monotheistic cultures. There are countries full of mysogynists who have no monotheism. There are plenty of Hindu and Buddhist adherents in countries that have been quite active in conquest and conflict. And gays have prospered as free and equal citizens in almost NO cultures in the long trek of history, long before Christianity, Islam, or Judaism.

Religion is indeed involved in much oppression of many types of people in many religions, but any sociologist worth his salt can easily prove homophobia is a majority thing, not originating in religion, but in genes. Like so many vices, religion just becomes the convenient tool of society to enact innate prejudices.

That is true. But perhaps it is easier for people to shake off their homophobia if they first shake off a religion that is the main source/tool/distribution channel of their homophobia?

That's a big perhaps.

You have the onus of showing a significant number of countries without Christianity, Islam, or Judaism, but enshrining gay rights. Choose anywhere in Asia, please.

Find a history of similar "acceptance" in Africa or Australia in pre-Christian times.

Much is made of some highly selective choosing of "third gender" in this or that tribe, but we have next to zero history of any acceptance by the major world cultures we know about from ancient times. And just about anything that deviated from the norm was taboo in most tribal cultures.

It's a species thing, not a religious thing. Religion is a pretext.

And let's be clear about Telly's anti-religion threads. He is just as bigoted and blinded by his precepts and preconceived notions about religion as any Fundamentalist is who spouts diatribes about men choosing to be gay. Both operate from malice and great ignorance and are not open to examining anything that contradicts their biases.

He looks at alcoholism and thinks the problem is demon rum whereas the fault is in the psyche that leads a person to seek out substance abuse as an answer. Most alcoholics would never dream of truly positing that their genes make them helpless victims of alcohol. There is a genetic susceptibility to alcoholism and substance abuse, but the person who believes some kid sipped his first beer and became an alcoholic uncontrollably is a fool.

Except it isn't the religion, but the gross misinterpretation of the tenets of the religion that bring on the problems. Oftentimes it is a lack of understanding of what the religion is actually about, other times it is an intentional warping of the beliefs to fit an individual's/group of individuals' desires.

Much the same thing as those who don't truly understand what a religion is about who take potshots at the religion based on the warped views of the idiots.

Well, ancient Egypt, ancient Greece and ancient Rome where very gay-friendly. At least until Rome started tolerating a certain homophobic monotheistic cult.

Likewise, many parts of Africa and the Americas were not homophobic until muzzies and chrissies converted them to their franchise of monotheism.

It's not just one or two scattered tribes. It's worldwide. I blame Moses for the trouble we are in. For us, he did more evil than Hitler.

Mwahahahaha!!!!!

You talk about religion as if they only want to bring peace between believers and non-believers. You do know better than that, don't you? Twenty centuries of christianity and fourteen centuries of islam should teach us otherwise...

Can't we talk about how horrid these orthodox jews are without name calling?

She should have put her arms around him and given him a good sloppy kiss, right on the mouth. Let him deal with that.

Just a couple of articles that some may find interesting:

[out of context] quote from the above article:
. . .
In that sense, it's not the bachelor uncle who is poorly adapted to the world, but rather the modern Western world that has evolved into an unwelcoming place.

Of course the articles are mostly hypotheses/speculation/opinion, but there they are.
