Update on GSDX

Positive thoughts and prayers headed Neil's way. Thanks for keeping us posted...what a terrible thing to have to experience...

I'm very sorry to learn of this accident. I'll light a candle and pray for your rapid recovery. I send positive and healing energy your way.

Wow, that's awful news. Thanks for sharing it here. I know that all of us wish him a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep us posted.

As Her Majesty would say, Neil seems to be having something of an anus horribilis. ;)

Get well soon dear boy. (*8*)

To GSDX: Thanks and Deep Appreciation to you. You were the first responder to an inquiry by me on any thread and you were courteous and informative on several occasions. Thanks again. My best hopes and wishes for your recovery and for your good health.

Wishing Neil all the best. Get well soon!

I Talked to Neil again right after work - he is a bit more sore today than he has been - they got him out of bed and walking as much as possible - never mind the time he was moving around in a wheelchair. They want him to be able to do as much as possible as quickly as possible.

I told him virtually everyone is sending their best wishes his way.

He should be transitioning to a rehabilitation facility sometime in the next two weeks - all depends on when a bed opens up.

So, he will be in that facility for the Christmas/New Year's holidays - it might not be all bad - normally it's just he and his room mate.

He and his room mate might celebrate the holidays in a larger, more festive environment - while Neil is commanded by a drill sargeant masquerading as a nurse.

Oh, his nurses have all been female, but his hospital room mate had a male nurse worth paying close attention to.

And, again, if you'd like to call him or send him a card, PM me and let me know - I'll share his information.

Heavens. That poor man does not have the best luck. I hope he recovers quickly.

I talked to Neil around lunchtime - he's doing fairly well - they're getting him up and walking with regularity.
The splint/cast on his wrist is due to come off soon.

And, he got a surprise phone call from his sisters - one lives about 90 minutes away, one lives in Nova Scotia. He hasn't seen the one in Nova Scotia in about 12 years. She was down to visit w/ other sister and they called so they could come see Neil - didn't know he was in the hospital. They were due in to see him this afternoon.

I've been passing on everyone's well wishes.

I am glad for your report on GSDX's progress today. He is no spring chicken and taking such a fall must be hard to cope with, making it all the more important that he has your support and that of his near and dear.

I hope that his progress continues strong and steady and that the outpouring of concern from JUB encourages him to persevere and to remain upbeat over the coming months of recuperation. You are a Saint, DQ, for being his true friend in the dark hours.

They have a different family dynamic. Neil doesn't travel because of his spine condition. He's seen the sister who lives 90 minutes away much more recently.

Keeland and I chatted with Neil this afternoon (separately). Keeland was by his computer when he called him and read a lot of the posts that everyone has made - Neil appreciated both the posts and Keeland's phone call. I'm usually in the car or at work where I can't get on the forum, so I've been trying to remember the people ans sentiments.

They decided it might be best if I posted the status updates, since people see my post and expect it, whereas they might miss it from another JUBber. In that spirit, here's the current update -

Neil had a good visit with his sisters yesterday.

Today he walked independently (the nurses have a tether around his waist just in case, but haven't needed to use it) from his bed to his bathroom (around 15 feet/5 meters or so), and showered, also independently. (I'm sure he wouldn't have minded an assist from the male nurse his room mate had the other day, but it wasn't to be.

He's healing well - his body is knitting nicely. He's quite surprising himself. He has an appointment tomorrow to have his wrist checked out - I think I mentioned it before.

Feel free to give him a call or send him a card. PM me for his personal information.

I talked to Neil around 5PM EST. He had a good day - they staples are out of his hip incision, the soft wrap cast is off his wrist.
He's doing a fair amount of walking, too.

Seems like he's going quite well. Maybe our positive vibes are doing some good.
