US Hits Another Milestone -- 1200 Days Without a Budget -- 8-11-2012

The House of Representatives is not the final say as to what a budget should be, Jack_Springer. It involves the Senate and the Executive Branch, two government bodies that the GOP controlled House refuses to work with.

So yes, we're 1,200 days without a budget because of the Republican party.

Welcome Gregory and Rosie... always good to have new posters and points of view.

Republicans have obstructed everything that is worthwhile in our Legislative process. They passed one third of the bills a normal congress enacts and most of them were worthless minutiae that does nothing substantial. These inept fucks can not even pass a farm bill during the worst drought since the dust bowl. Ironically many of the republican supporters are from the flyover states that do a lot of our farming and also will suffer the most from the republican inaction. The Obama Super PACs would do well to point out this fact so they can remember prior to going to the polls this fall for congress critters.

Please explain?

The House passed a budget under republican leadership and sent it to the Senate. Monetary bills are to originate in the House.

Harry Reid is the roadblock.

frankfrank - Paul Ryan said something today that I thought fitting.

"We promise equal opportunity, not equal outcomes". I thought that is what America stands for.

JayHawk - what did I write that is incorrect?

Thats sort of like the old saying.

A homeless man was sleeping under the noisy, hot, bug infested bridge on the interstate and the cops come and wake him stating its against the law to sleep under the bridge. And they told him that law is for the richest man or the poorest makes no difference.

I think the impression is that the Senate has passed no budget bills on their own because they believe the Republicans are filibustering them. I don't know if that is correct or not. Does it require 60 votes to pass a budget bill in the Senate?

You know damn well EVERY party gives and takes to get bills passed. You also know equally well and it can be empirically demonstrated that this congress is massively under performing due to it's infestation with Tea Party Traitors. That is the issue. Refusal to negotiate on any issue. They state it proudly every day in the press. They have republicans of long standing who are quitting politics because nothing is being accomplished and blaming it on obstructive TP policy to do NOTHING. Face it you are wrong.

^^^

So if the Senate has passed or tried to negociate a budget bill in the last 1200 days -- can you show us where it is?

You will have to watch CSPAN for the back and forths in committees. I know that's where I catch it. Perhaps you could request CSPAN transcripts of Congressional action and report back. The republican House passed dead bills just to have lackies say exactly what is coming out of your mouth.

Just because the Legislative Branch's budget originates in the House, it doesn't mean that their version should be the final say in what a budget looks like. The GOP House completely left out the House Democrats, president, and the Senate in their version for a budget that took in no consideration for compromise or common sense.

Harry is busy making outrageous claims with no merit

Calling general Petreaus a liar

George Bush a loser

And collecting his bag money on Nevada

There's only do much time in a day

Peter Principle clearly in play with Harold

OH LOOK!

Opi posted a link to a WHOLE other thread where the idea of a budget was already hashed out.

Poor right wing lap dogs. It sucks to be so wrong. So often.

Poor republicans. All they can run on is false rhetoric and hate. Yet obviously there is a market for such ignorance. People with low information lap that shit up like my dog licking his business....

epiphanies come with side effects it appears

only being able to see things u wanna see is one

and claiming others are hateful while u spew ur own "good hate" is another

you're the one calling repubs names - like romney - so a hater can't claim hate - can he ?

If Senate Democrats Won't Pass a Budget, They Shouldn't Be Paid - Nancy Pfotenhauer (usnews.com)

Jay,having an open mind and the ability to be pragmatic and flexible is usually a good thing. You've gone so far to the peanut gallery side though that it's really disappointing .I don't get the snideness, the utter partisanship that never used to come out of your posts. Sorry we've lost one of our ONLY really independent voices here. I expected better of you....I was like "This is JayHawk talking?" The GOP needs honorable conservatives who will challenge the religious and hard right trying to take control of the party..... not have good guys turn into partisan attack dogs for the other side.

Most of that is simply playing the devils advocate against the various snide ignorant comments that come from the right around here.

I have always considered myself an independent who supports sanity and the most competent in office. I vehemently defended many right wing ideas that were not popular around here previously and guess what i still do. Obama's success in the drone wars is not even remotely possible without Bush's framework and policy. Forget about Bin laden.

So my current stances? Do i take liberties? of course. Mostly like I said they are to get a rise out of a certain poster whose posts are rife with such nonsense and have been for months and months. I like the fire with fire approach to battle. Except I prefer my fire to be ten times bigger.

SO tell ya what while you tacitly agree the republicans are shite this time around and also agree like most Posters here that Obama is inept at many things but is the best choice. SO do you lend luke warm iffy support to everything?

As far as Rhetoric? Do you argue that Romney signs his lies whereas Obama lies come from Super PACs... i.e. false rhetoric

Have you heard the immigrant hate and the socialist talk from posters around here like Jack and Ben? Guess what they aren't the only ones. Move out west or just take a trip for a week and listen to talk radio, go to schools and churches like I do and you will find republicans equal A LOT of hate.

We're looking for a RESPONSIBLE document with RESPONSIBLE numbes, sending up a load of crap that takes care of the rich and shits on the poor and staming it a BUDGET --DOESN'T MAKE IT SO. GET REAL. REPUBLICANS ARE THE ALL-TIME UTLIMATE OBSTRUCTIONISTS -- FOR AS LONG AS THEY HAVE BEEN A "party". And that's a party of white old fart heads.

BULLSHIT

Blocking the budget is solely in the hands of the dem's and Harry Reid. The House had passed a budget every year since the republicans have had the majority.

First of all, the Senate CAN NOT send a budget to the House! Quite the opposite, actually. ALL budget proposals MUST be passed by the House before being sent to the Senate! (Read the Constitution.)

And, the budget that the teabagger House passed, numerous times, knowing full well it wouldn't get past the Senate, let alone to the President's desk, was nothing short of scuttling the Middle Class in favor of the Top Cats! (Trickle Down has been Proven to NOT work!)

Thankfully, we have a political party, the Democrats, who realize what would happen, if "The Ryan Budget" ever got passed (by more than the House), and are protecting YOUR butt from the dire consequences.

Open you Eyes! Stop being one of the Sheeple!

Correct BUT once the House passes a budget the Senate may either pass it or produce their own version to send back to the House for reconciliation, they have done neither. So again it is the Senate that is not producing a budget.
