Watching Brad

I'm glad you enjoyed your visit and your trip to Tims. It's been years since I've been. (I wasn't aware the TimBits had names.) So, now you know what I've been talking about, and now you know why Brad loves apple fritters. They're my favourites, too.

I swore off donuts years ago, but exempted apple fritters because, well, they're apple fritters.

I have never had a TimBit, but acknowledge more than one apple fritter. ;-) Wish there were more to this story, but can understand ... love you, Neil!

There will be more. Unfortunately, both me and the story got lost in the curling season.

I don't drink anymore. I don't smoke anymore. I don't eat Timbits or apple fritters anymore. But I'll be darned if I give up my curling, too!

;)

Oh, and (*8*)

Neil, Wait until the latest studies. "They say curling is bad for your health." :rotflmao: It's like my cardiologist talking about diet. "If it tastes good, spit it out."

Hang in there, my friend. (*8*)

^ The only thing about curling being bad for my health is staying up way past my bedtime to watch an extra end.

But the benefits of the cardiovascular stimulation from watching the fit guys d their thing more than offsets any potential drawbacks.

So, gentlemen, I’m planning a trip to Toronto. Reading this story and others has made me long to visit. So I feel it’s time. Actually my roommate grew up in Toronto and has given me some ideas of where to go, but I want your suggestions as well. I for sure will visit Ryerson...Brad is surely working on his Doctorate by now, right? So send me your suggestions. Places to stay, places to eat, clubs to check out, etc. Thanks.

If you enjoy theatre, and can get tickets, go see Come From Away at the Royal Alexandra Theatre. It's also playing on Broadway.
We haven't seen the Canadian cast but we've seen the Broadway cast since their early days in La Jolla and then Ford's Theatre in DC then twice on Broadway last June.

It's fantastic.
Ensemble Cast of 12, band of 8.
100 minutes, no intermission.
It's the true story of Gander, Newfoundland on 9/11/2001 and several days beyond.
Celtic NL Rock and a story that will have you laughing your ass off one second and crying the next.

The Royal Ontario Science Museum is also a good place if you're into such things.
If you're a zoo person we visited the Toronto Zoo about 30 years ago.

Sheep, who has his own story in the forum, lives in the Greater Toronto Area and might be able to help you.

Hi, Clover. I'm sorry to admit that the Toronto you read in the story is the Toronto I remember from several decades ago. I know The Village is still there, but I couldn't even give you directions to Ryerson or any of the other hot spots in the city.

You might start here: https://toronto.gaycities.com/

I asked Sheep and he said he's lost track, too - the village is dissolving to an extent.

The village was a "safe" place for gays but with gay marriage and a shift in attitudes gay establishments are everywhere. Also, some of the iconic establishments were bought by business people and gentrified and now appeal to the masses. I'm sure Woody's is still there on Church St. The village ran from north of Wellesley to South of Carlton. Ryerson is 3 blocks South at Gerrard St.
You can hold hands with another dude pretty well anywhere in Toronto unless the conservatives win the next Ontario Election, then all bets are off. The other Ford brother, Doug, is the leader of the Cons and is a Trump admirer. His brother Rob was the redneck cokehead mayor of Toronto. Everybody said that lightening couldn't strike twice, but they said the same about Hitler, and Trump became president.

It has been about 10 years since I was in Toronto. You might want to take in the gay parade. Its around the end of June. If that was you intention, I doubt if you'll find accommodation as it's the largest parade in North America. Enjoy your stay.

Have I missed something?? Thought there were some concluding episodes?? Waiting ... maybe for no reason???

^ There are. Just not yet. The second is in progress, but won't be finished until I've 'taken care of Jason'. There will be a third if all goes as planned.

gsdx, did you tell us that Watching Brad might be available (for us who want) on a CD or thumb drive eventually, when finished?

I had thought of printing it out, because I would want to be sure I had it available if JUB goes down for any reason (either by "executive decision" that the Forums part isn't making any money for the site...or the entire site under far more sinister outside forces). Along the same thoughts, I assume you have your own copy outside of JUB?

If you make it available, I'm in the queue.

Third reading ... Having a great time with it. Up to part 98 ... Laughing, crying, moved deeply and often. A joy to read again. Thank you, Neil!

No, Teddy, you don't understand. There could have been a million people for me to choose from and I still would have chosen you. You really have no idea who you are and what you do for people. There is more room in your heart for loving everyone than I have ever seen before. There isn't anything you won't do for someone, and you never ask for anything in return. You're an amazing man, Teddy, and a lot of people care for you very much. Especially Bradley.

The "breakdown made Ted face many things ... mostly that he was not alone. Warren really made him hear how valuable he was and that everyone loved him and would help him ... especially Brad.

Glad you're enjoying the re-re-reruns. Warren doesn't get mentioned very often in comments. He was actually a surprise for me. I had no intention of making him a regular character until Ted took his truck back and the 'heart' thing came out. To this day, after actually creating Warren's character and personality, I can't for the life of me figure out what in hell he'd be doing driving a pick-up truck in Toronto. Now that I think about it, I don't think pick-ups even exist in Toronto. But, Ted needed a truck and... well... what can I say?
