I think a huge benefit of being gay is the absence of stereotypical gender roles. I think gay relationships are much more egalitarian with less dependancy issues between partners. Being held up as, "the man" in a relationship by society places much more pressure on said "man", with less expectations placed on the woman. Yes, this is 2013, but still, that is our society. It really is not as equal as you think. The team in a gay relationship is much more balanced.
