  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Attention What are you doing at the moment? 2024-25

Trying to now keep up with the flood of other people's problems as they get their shit together following their holidays/long weekend.

Filing an anti-trust complaint with the FTC on Ancestry.com.

The company began as a publishing house to mostly Mormon researchers, but has morphed through several acquisitions to have an online monopoly for access to formerly publically available records and databases.

It branched out to buy Find-A-Grave and newspaper archives and other genealogy database competitors, to gain broad monopoly.

It is now owne by private equity firm Blackstone, Inc. and the fees are far in excess of reasonable profit margins. They might as well buy up the rights to insulin production while they are at it, and make the full sweep of unethical pricing.

No smoking rooms?

Germany and Belgium still have them.

In The Netherlands smoking is outside in front of the bars now.

Which is silly because it makes it look all the more cosy and attractive to the young folks.

There are no smoking rooms in British pubs. Smokers have to go outside where generally there is some sort of shelter for rainy days. When I was last in Berlin I noticed that people were still smoking in bars. I found it unpleasant, partly I guess because I'm no longer used to smoking indoors.

About to start pulling out Ivy from the lot of the company next door.
There is a beautiful ivy if you come across some cut several bunches for yourself to take home. It has so many wonderful uses.

Steeped leaves make for a lovely tea.

It has skin soothing qualities for a silky relaxing bath. Kinda like lavender does. Rub it all over yourself.

Surround yourself with it at night in bed. You will sleep like a baby. I forget the name of it but it looks like this. Well, enjoy.

I miss it.

Although smoking outside of The Cuckoo's Nest in Amsterdam is kind of fun.

Up after reading but no nap...I was actually feeling chilled under the duvet and finally had to get up and put on a 2nd pair of socks and some flannel pyjama bottoms, so realized I wasn't going to nod off at all today.
