Attention What are you having for dinner?

Corn Elote Bowl from Purple Carrot. (Frozen entree.) As I was eating it, it occurred to me it's odd that I'd choose a product with frozen corn since it appears one store has fresh corn that is probably decent...

Along with this, I had a salad. Then a single serviing "wild blueberry" pie. Wild blueberry pie is about as wild as my life gets these days...

My local Taco Johns has Mango Shrimp street tacos once a year for a month or 2. I got myself a 3-pack this eve.

I'm a little surprised seeing something like that in your area. It looks like something "trendy" that would be concocted in a Florida restaurant, but I've never seen it. BTW, they don't know how to make fish tacos in Florida. When I visited California some years ago, they had fish tacos with fish, shredded cabbage, and some kind of simple white sauce in a soft taco. It was simple, but it was good.

Saturday night has turned into always pasta night. Supermarket fusilli, mushroom, olive, onion, tomato, garlic. It used to be such a cheap thing to make, now the combination of The War, on top of Brexit has made it cost twice as much to make. But his majesty enjoyed it and that is all that matters.

shredded cabbage,

Run for your lives!!!

Black bean and sweet potato burger/patty on a fresh Kaiser roll with lettuce and tomato.

Have an nice cantaloupe for later but I sometimes get an allergic reaction so maybe that will change.

^I keep thinking I should get cantaloupe...

My problem is that this time of year is so much different fresh fruit, and one can only eat so much... Right now, I'm busy taking full advantage of cherry season. Maybe too much so. I noticed this morning that my face has turned dark red, and there seems to be a stem growing out of my head.

Strangely, I have a sense I didn't even like cantaloupe when I was young. I can't remember how much I disliked it--if it was a hard no or if it was: I'll eat because it was put front of me, not because I like it! At some point in my 20s, though, that changed. Funny how that works.

I love it when it is sweet and ripe and iced cold.

A little simple syrup with some rose water poured over cubed cantaloupe and then chilled is really good. Especially if the cantaloupe isn't the best.

^I'll have to remember that if I'm ever stuck with a lackluster cantaloupe.

The other thing I'm curious to try is cantaloupe with pepper. I heard someone swear the combination (as odd as it sounds to me) works well.

As a caterer for many years I have made plenty of platters of cantaloupe wrapped with prosciutto and sprinkled with as bit of black pepper. And plain cantaloupe with black pepper as well. It's good.

I have rose water, lavender water, and orange blossom water. They all work with melons and can be used sparingly in puddings and custards and desserts. I buy them sometimes just to open the cap and smell them.

I had Jim & Nick's barbecue with my neighbors at the new location that opened near us recently. Too many flies. But, the food is good. Only ate a couple of bites of brisket, and a bit of a rib. Have leftovers of short ribs, chicken, and brisket to take to work this week for sandwiches. Ate the mac & cheese, cheese muffins, and watermelon with the meal, and a piece of chocolate pie.

There has been a craze about mac & cheese of late, but most of it is pure shit, and usually crazy overpriced. This joint actually makes it the right way, with no bechamel.

The BBQ is good too, but the cheese muffins are an embarrassing addition and have fuck all to do with BBQ.

This regional chain has fish tacos during Lent. They are okay for a change. But I like these mango shrimp taco better. Now if they would bring back the Oreo Churro's....I'd be a happy (and fatter) man.

Tonight it is grilled duck breast with grilled sweet potato.

Only our second bbq this year and I don't know why because our new Broil King is just incredible to cook on.

Not on topic but since this is where the cooks hang out, I have a question. My microwave turns clockwise then anticlockwise. Backwards then forwards. Is this in order to cook more evenly or is it just for show?
