Steamy? Romantic? Funny? Deep? Political?

I recently re-watched Fire Island (2022) (UU) Gotta say, not bad. They could have fleshed out the two silly sluts and the chubby nerd in the group a bit more. Added some lezbots. But overall, very watchable.

Older ones:

Breakfast on Pluto (2005) Ummm, it gets very rough! But I like Kitty and the whimsical cinematography/storytelling style.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001) I love the end when
Hedwig finally strips down, literally and figuratively.

Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). Curry. 'Nuff said.

Plata Quemada (2000).... had very hot men.... I can have a shallow pick in here, right?

The Way He Looks (2014) was a really sweet coming-of-age drama about a shy but spunky young blind boy discovering life and love.

Milk (2008) Yes it's Hollywoody but I thought they did a fair job recreating 70s San Francisco, where my heart resides.

A Single Man (2009) Why is this film not more talked about?! It's beautifully made. I actually liked it better than the book.

Eileen (2023) It only hints at the homoerotic but just amazing character portrait with some aspects of noir.

Mädchen in Uniform (1931), Honestly, I like it better than most modern lesbian films.

Ah, crap. I ran out of room. There's a drag queen one, one with Florence Pugh, also maybe My Own Private Idaho.... but it's been five million years since I saw that.

Anybody?

I will dig some out of my memory bank...funny I was just thinking that we should have a thread to share some of these.

BTW. I found 'Call Me By Your Name', bloated and verbose to the point of not liking any of the characters.

These two definitely wanted to get it on:

They had the best chemistry in the film.

Yah I found that one kind of lacking. It didn't grab me the way some indie dramas do. I feel it relied a fair bit on the gorgeous scenery (man-scenery included.) Part of the problem is that rich people are hopelessly dull.

What did you think of Little Giant Ones ? :=D:

I enjoyed that one. The protagonist is a cutie. He managed to capture some emotional subtleties that had me surprised he's american and not canadian or something. Hehe. I went from thinking he's straight to bi to pure Homer sexual at the end. :rb: Seems like he'd have a clearer idea what his dinky doodle dandy is pointing to? Dinky says: want that!(*k*)
They do always seem to feel the need for a big punch-em-up scene in these movies. It's like there's no other way to resolve conflict. Like life is just boring if you can't punch somebody.:jab:

Just a heads up for this documentary.

"Hidden Master: The Legacy of George Platt Lynes," is now streaming on Prime, Apple+ and others.

It explores his work and his glorification of the male nude form. www.Hiddenmasterfilm.com. Most of this work could not be shown during his lifetime.

Among the best ever Brokeback Mountain style with a good ending.

British filmmaking tends to be higher quality, more subtle and mature. I did like the authenticity of this one. Animal activists: don't watch.🤖

Dare I confess I still haven't seen Brokeback? I saw parts of it and thought Ledger didn't seem in his element.

Your Name Engraved Herein was the last good gay movie I’ve seen.

“From Beginning to End” (2009) tells the story of two brothers who share a deeply close relationship that evolves into a romantic and sexual bond as they grow into young adulthood.

This is one I want to watch in full. I don't have a problem with the incestuous relationship. I can understand how it happens between bonded siblings.

I wish - whoever was responsible - had never lumped SO many VASTLY different genres of film all into this one "LGBTIQA+" bag !
As a homodude, i want to see FILMS about homodudes.
I'm NOT wanting to sift through dozens of films about dysfunctional, angry dykes - and every episode of Ru Paul's Drag Race ever made.
Nor do I have any interest in documentary film or drama based around the life and loves of MtF or FtM trannies - or anyone self-identifying as a "queer"

That SAID, my personal favourites, of the moment, already listed here are ...

1. "The Way He Looks"
2. "God's Own Country"
3. "Lonesome"

4. ... and not a film (but a streaming mini-series) "Cam Boy" deserves an honourable mention - and being about a "Chaturbate style" performer, Callum Dunphy's cock deserves top billing.

It's been refreshing to see mainstream directors and actors not afraid to get a bit of cock out there - as in 2, 3 and four.
NOT in any GRATUITIVE manner - but simply - 'it is as it is'
I've never - and I've not known other guys who've ever - had sex, fallen asleep, woken up and got straight out of bed wearing their underpants.

If I see a preview I like, these days, I'll BUY myself a copy from an online vendor, to keep for all time - as I've done with 1, 2 and 3.

My favourite sub-genre are those with young guys falling in love for the first time in "coming of age" stories.
The Argentinians, Spanish and Germans do these beautifully and in great number.
But, sadly, English speaking cinema lags a long way behind.

But I also wanted to mention one I absolutely loathe. This insipid excuse for a gay comedy is the most cringe inducing bore fest I have ever hadf the displeasure of seeing.

I'm GLAD I'm not the ONLY one,
Just because a film is "gay themed' - is no guarantee of quality
Though some will tell you, it IS.

Those two movies are worlds apart.

Brokeback is about lying and cheating -- infidelity -- fucking up the lives of innocent women and children using them as cover -- hiding behind them.

There is NONE of that shit in God's Own Country.

Comparing the two is just ridiculous -- unless, maybe you think both movies are about nothing but fuzzy little sheep on sunny slopes?????

This one was worth a watch.

“The Pass” (2016) is a story of Jason and Ade from a famous London football club’s academy. It’s the night before their first Champions League match, and they’re in a hotel room in Romania, too hyped to sleep. They’re goofing around, teasing each other, getting their gear ready, and even watching a teammate’s sex tape. Then, out of nowhere, one of them kisses the other. That moment changes everything for them over the next ten years – a wild ride of fame, failures, secrets, and lies in a world where image is everything.

Egads. Did you guys actually watch that :poop:? The previews didn't put you off? And the title?

Well, the director's part of that over-privileged Rogan cabal that I'm not a fan of.

I will say that I am just as capable of watching a 'film' as I am watching a 'movie'

I learned the distinction in university one night when we went out with our friends and one of them said...'I don't want to watch a 'film' tonight. Or read sub-titles. Or think about it over much.'

'let's just go to a movie. Something with an actual plot.'

I can't remember what it was that we saw but it was funny and inane and superficial. And we had a fine time.

And I thought that if I could eat licorice all-sorts and garbage popcorn...I could consume a snack of nothing but fat and air and sugar on celluloid.

And we still enjoy this as a break from all the wonderfully scripted and acted 'deep' stories that take up probably 90% of our viewing time.

And even if they are trite, shallow, trope laden ouvres...as long as they have their heart in the right place, we can watch them all.

Just wait until I start posting the Hallmark holiday flicks.

But like with music, much of today's candy pop is too by-the-numbers to peak interest. No heart to speak of. You just get a tummy ache. Distraction factory to hypnotize the masses. Like the parade of CGI clones. It's too creepy the way they try to make sure an amoeba with nary a brain cell to rub together can still "get it." I have lots of sort of silly favourites from further back though, when there was still a measure of slow craft and weirdness allowed in the mainstream.
