  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

What exactly went down in Fort Hood, Texas?

Just found out a family member of someone I know was shot. I had no idea she was even there on that post. Weird.

Rumor has it that this asshole is pretty messed up. I hope he is.

CNN reports that the military had been keeping watch on the doctor for some time. I guess that means they suspected something. I'm very sorry for the victims and their families.

First he was killed. Now he's alive. First there were three gunmen. Now there is one. What's that bullshit about? Someone had to be informing the media. Are they making this up as they go along? I smell a rat.

^ Well, much as the news networks hate it, the military trumps CNN and all the rest of them.

They released the pertinent info when THEY saw fit, not when the media demanded it.

I too find it curious that he was 39 years old, a doctor and a major in the Army and had never been married... But, that's a salient point at this time.

If I had to guess, he was a man whose hatred for America's never ending war-machine combined with having to hear one horrible, gut-wrenching story after the next from the soldiers that experienced hell on earth finally made him "snap".

I've always believed that there is a VERY thin line between psychologists and the mentally ill people they treat on a daily basis.

US Army: 12 killed, 31 wounded in shooting rampage on Texas army base
US Army: thousands of kills in war in Afghanistan.

We're not being told the truth.

Nothing is adding up.

There's eye witnesses of three gunmen, then a Muslim lone-nut surfaces. Which will give us a reason to stay in the middle east for many more years. Or something.

Kinda convenient.

Thank God I'm not alone when I thought there was something Putinesque about the story.

I remember they were reporting that witnesses heard small arm fire and rifle shots.

To the average Joe, no difference.

But to military guys, who've been in war, no mistaking the difference.

I agree. Something fishy about the story.....

Rifles ARE small arms.

Now have you ever been in the Military or to war? If not, how do you know Military guys can so keenly decipher the difference? The shooting was all done INDOORS in a very crowded environment. I'm not sure how anybody would be able to tell the difference between a pistol and a rifle by sound alone given the circumstance. Add all the chaos and watching their friends get killed in front of them, and I don't blame them at all for being a little confused.

With that many people involved and that many people killed and injured to worry about, the facts were hard coming for a little while. What's new here? Just because it happened on an Army post doesn't mean it's some big conspiracy, folks.

My Brother was right across the street when this happened, and he texted me about 3 or possibly 4 shooters. They had originally arrested 3 people and later cleared 2 of them. From what he told me, the whole post was chaos for a while after it happened, and they had no idea how many people might have been involved. I guess they were searching pretty much EVERYTHING and EVERYONE for several hours afterward. He was stopped and patted down too at one point.

Why they said the shooter was killed and we later found out he was alive, I have no idea. From what I've heard, he was injured pretty bad and I guess maybe the word about his status got mixed up on it's way up to the man in charge so he reported what he had. We're talking about over 40 people shot, and the security of the post to worry about. They were a little busy for a while, I'm sure.

Keep in mind also that there were news crews on post before they locked it down, so they were getting "news" from anyone who would talk. I doubt all of the preliminary reports came directly from the command there.

I've heard it said that not all Muslims are terrorists, but nearly all terrorists are Muslims. I feel sorry for honest, peace-loving Muslims who are now going to have to deal with this latest stain on their religion.

But in this man's case, whether it is considered poliitically incorrect or not, he was a psychiatrist who has converted to be a Muslim, and has publicly expressed his displeasure with Americans being in Iraq and Afghanistan, and was said to be happy about that Muslim killing people at an Army recruiting centre earlier this year. At the same time, he was counseling troops going to and coming back from the war - what the hell was the military thinking putting him in that position?

It is said he was a “convert” to Islam, but his own cousin said today that he has always been Islamic! Is it feasible for a Muslim to be in our military since it is, obvious, that their allegiance lies elsewhere? It's said that he was distressed at having to go overseas to kill some of his Islamic brothers, even though they are terrorists that hate America and all things American!

Has political correctness gone so far that we will allow a man who openly sympathizes with the very people we are at war with, to be promoted to an officer in our military, and then be given access to our troops and weapons with which to kill them?
The US military allows foreign citizens to join the military all the time. As I was joining up, one of the government agents processing my paper work in the liason office was foreign (I couldn't tell you which country, somewhere in Europe. And a career non commissioned officer as well who sounded as if he was from Germany.

It fasts track becoming a full citizen if they make it the minimum amount of enlisted time.

Not anymore...!

The more I read about this the more I believe this is just... someone... trying to drum up more support for the war.

It's too perfect. A Muslim Terrorist infiltrating the military... lone nut gunman... coming just before Obama makes the decision to pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq.

And it's starting to make me believe the 9/11 conspiracies too.

I recon at this point the military are taking literally anyone, so it isn't strange he should have ended up there.

He was in the Military before 9/11

I guess they had this planned for some time now...

Or maybe he's just a guy who lost his marbles and went freakin' nuts on the ...wait for it... same place who denied his request for non-deployable status.

The army is taking anyone. The other branches are trying to get rid of people. Too many people staying in.

As for the consipracy theories. Thank God for freedom of speech I guess.

And Obama started pulling out of Iraq immediately, and it is ahead of schedule or on track apparently. He never said anything about leaving Afghanistan soon.

......Probably also gay, from my read of what has come out so far, but closeted (military and Islam) and possibly celibate.

What did you read and where? The only mention of his marital status I have found is here:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/06/us/06suspect.html

............The former imam, Faizul Khan, said that Major Hasan had wanted to marry an equally religious woman but that his efforts to find one had failed.

“He wanted a woman who prayed five times a day and wears a hijab, and maybe the women he met were not complying with those things,” the former imam said.

Mr. Hasan, 40, a lawyer in Virginia, described his cousin as a respectful, hard-working man who had devoted himself to his parents and his career.
