What is new on the Gay Marriage front?

As I said above, I did not expect that Bunning would keep her jailed indefinitely. The political situation is just too toxic to support that.

And my expectation is that she will go back to the clerk's office, and again try to interfere (in some way) with the issuance of marriage licenses to gays. After all, she has God on her side, so nothing that anybody says or orders matters to her. Her position has not changed, and she has made no new agreement with Judge Bunning. Bunning's order that she not interfere in any way with the issuance of gay marriage licenses is no different than his order prior to Davis' incarceration. The only thing that has changed is that Davis has now had a taste of what jail is like.

If Davis found incarceration sufficiently distasteful, she may modify her religious beliefs to allow her to avoid further jail time. If her religious fanatacism supercedes her distaste for jail, then she will be back in front of Bunning in a few days.

I don't think it was her religion at all. She strikes me as a catty and despicable person. It was pure conservatism. It was bred from the same mindset that makes conservatives think that it is personally beneficial to them if the children of some immigrant woman starve to death. They cannot stand to see someone other than themselves happy because it feels too much like having to share with others.

If I thought that she were motivated by heartfelt beliefs, I might have a modicum of sympathy for her, but I see her as a bully and would beat her like a cheap hooker.

^ As I said above (#2456), I read her as a person with emotional problems (4 marriages, multiple bastard children, hyperreligiosity) who seeks validation through martyrdom.

She has certainly been getting the validation she seeks. Two presidential candidates sought her out and cash is beginning to flow to her from admirers across the USA (even though she has not been fined, continues to get paid from her $80K/yr job, and has free legal representation). She is loved by important and unimportant people alike.

That's why I'm not optimistic her behavior will change. She is being rewarded emotionally and financially for her disgusting and illegal behavior. It would be foolish for her to change course at this point.

Psychological damage might be an explanation, but I see a woman who has been living filthy rich and running for political office following a large divorce settlement. I don't think she's bitter. I think she's just a common bully. I can't prove that, but that's the scent that I am getting off it.

I'd have to agree with your diagnosis. She went from a small town/county clerk to national attention. Given her checkered past, I have seen folks like her rush towards further insanity. It doesn't help that she is surrounded by people with mental conditions like Ted Cruz and Mike Huckster -- both of whom should be disqualified from seeking any elected office because they profess an oath and allegiance to "Christianity" over the US Constitution. I still find it amazing that the talking blondes on FOX have even said she should do her job or resign; it takes a lot to implant intelligence in those couch sitters.

Mike Huckabee has offered to go to jail in place of Ms. Davis.

Fox asked Lindsey Graham for his reaction to that. "Well, we'll miss Mike," he said.

John Kasich (an odd voice of reason among GOP presidential candidates) worries that Kim Davis will drive people away from religion. He told Fox tonight:

"We have a lot of young people that have walked away from, or are confused or uncertain about personal faith. And one of the things that I know that's so great about it -- being a flawed man -- is that, thank God we have grace," Kasich said.

"In this case, when young people, or people who are looking at what is religion all about, what is faith all about -- when they see dust-ups like this, my concern is they would go the other way and say, 'Look, I don't want anything to do with that,'" he added.

When Davis walked onto the stage at the rally for her release, Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger" was playing over loudspeakers.

Frankie Sullivan, frontman for Survivor, says that the use of the group's song was not authorized. In fact, Sullivan said he would not have given Davis the right to use toilet paper.

"NO! We did not grant Kim Davis any rights to use my tune — 'The Eye Of The Tiger.' I would not grant her the rights to use Charmin!"

It was weird to me that she was acting as though it were some sort of victory party. She was let go because the office was compliant, not because of divine intervention. Furthermore it seems it's only a matter of time before she is heading right back to the pokey.

I suspect that part of the reason for her release was that the parties who called for the contempt of court charge, including the ACLU, really didn't want her incarcerated. The ACLU and the plaintiffs in the case requested a fine. The judge happened to disagree.

She was released on the understanding that she would not further harass her deputies. Let's see how long she manages to stay out of the pokey.

The question is whether she's smart enough to understand he's being charitable.
If she pushes it, I have no doubt he'll have her ass back in lockup for a considerably longer period of time.

If she really pisses off the judge, how much power does he have? How easy is it for the judge to be overruled?

He can keep her in jail if she refuses to comply with the law. What he's done is fig leaf it - she isn't in jail because her STAFF complied. But they aren't the elected officials.

The judge has broad powers to order whatever punishments will enforce her compliance.

What grounds would anyone have to overrule the judge? He's enforcing a decision of the SCOTUS. That's as high as it goes.

I'm betting the next confrontation will be over Kentucky law which requires the clerk to record the completed marriage license in the permanent records of the office. She also has to fill out a report to the state monthly on births, deaths, marriages, etc.

What I think is sad is that she is being used as a prop. Look at the video of Hucksterbee's security blocking Ted Cruz so he couldn't get on stage. Watch the Hucksters facial expresssions. He's banking on this to be his moment of fame to try to gather some of the oxygen being consumed by Donald Trump. And Liberty Counsel, NOM and the other hate groups are all using it for fundraising moments. She's just too stupid to realize that she's being used.

I was glad to see Joe Scarborough and Mika grill Huckaster this morning; it was such a refreshing moment from the softballs and smiles he got while espousing his bullshit on CNN moments before.

Of course she knows she's being "used." That was the whole point.

Kim Davis' lawyer says issuing gay marriage licences is like "licensing child sodomy."

Davis has not yet gone back to work. She's taking some time off after her jailing to relax. But her legal team seems to be trying to prepare us for the end of gay marriage in Rowan County, KY, upon her retutn.

As we all know, gay marriage will not be ending in Rowan County, she will just be heading back to jail.
