What is new on the Gay Marriage front?

^^^It sounds so weird to think that our country is one of the next ones poised to have nationwide marriage equality. I never thought I'd read those words so soon.

As usual, great summary. The situation in Switzerland is quite strange, since the Greens are also offering a bill to legalize it.

I wonder if they're waiting until the June trial.

I wouldn't be surprised if the state supreme court takes the initiative and strikes down the state's ban on its own.

Three new lawsuits were filed today in Indiana, Arizona, and Florida. The first two seek the right to marry.

Tennessee plaintiffs seeking a status update were informed by Judge Trauger that she is working on the decision for immediate relief.

Tennessee must immediately recognize out of state marriages of the plaintiffs.

"...all signs indicate that, in the eyes of the United States Constitution, the plaintiffs’ marriages will be placed on an equal footing with those of heterosexual couples and that proscriptions against same-sex marriage will soon become a footnote in the annals of American history."

Signed Judge Aleta Trauger

Expect to see mroe lawsuits in TN with the latest ruling

Texas has appealed the injunction in DeLeon v. Perry to the Fifth Circuit.

The state has chosen to appeal the preliminary injunction, and the appeal has been docketed at the Fifth Circuit. Since the district court judge’s order was only a preliminary move, the case isn’t finished at the district court level. So at the same time the injunction was appealed, the district court has issued a stay of the proceedings in the case until the Fifth Circuit resolves the dispute over the preliminary injunction. The state had requested the stay, and according to the order, it was an unopposed request.

Well we have a preliminary injunction on appeal there, but Texas might be the last with an appellate decision.

Judge Garcia may have made a strategically genius move, because he made published a memo on the merits without actually issuing an opinion. Now any appeal on the merits to the 5th Circuit is well delayed behind any of the other federal courts of appeals, and thank God it is, because the 5th is one of if not the most conservative Republican dominated court of appeals in the nation.

That being said, all judgments are being stayed, so when SCOTUS rules it will overturn the remaining states all at the same time.

when do you think that'll happen?
