What is new on the Gay Marriage front?

http://news.yahoo.com/judge-strikes...-151516159.html;_ylt=AwrBJSDK4UFUxGIAnrPQtDMD

PHOENIX (AP) — Gay marriage became legal in Arizona on Friday, a sharp turn for a state that became ground zero in the clash over gay rights less than a year ago when the state Legislature passed a bill allowing businesses to deny service to gays and lesbians.

Arizona?

Welcome to the 21st century! :=D:

Let us not forget that, while Arizona may have gay marriage, it is still legal there for businesses to deny service to LGBTs.

Not in certain cities but overall, you are sadly right.

WYOMING will not appeal.
I continue to find it very strange that, even though Wyoming's Governor is a Republican, and NEARLY EVERY SEAT in WY's legislature (in both chambers) is Republican as well, that state doesn't seem to be caught up in all the wacko RWNJ batshit crazy Tea Party stuff we're seeing out of most states run by Republicans.

I guess in a state so staunchly and safely Republican, they don't feel the need for grandstanding, or trying to pulverize Democratic ideas and voters, etc. Or what??

Some states really have their own political culture, and Wyoming is so isolated it isn't surprising. Hardly anyone lives there what's more.

Isn't that Liz and Dick land, home of the Cheney Clan, and not a lot of other people - lots of bovine brethren, though, IIRC.

It has less people living there then Alaska.

I don't agree that Wyoming has been spared the stupidity of the Party of Stupid (their own characterization, BTW).

Liz Cheney has been banging the drum against gay rights, even though she cannot come up with an argument against it, and her own sister is gay. Dick is agitating for another invasion of Iraq, incredibly still claiming that we need to prevent the terrorists there from attacking the US with WMDs. In his op-ed in the WSJ, Dick claimed, "Rarely has a U.S. president been so wrong about so much at the expense of so many." A humorous claim, coming as it does from the vice president of the administration which was more spectacularly wrong about everything at the expense of everyone than any other administrtion in history.

The reason that Wyoming is not appealing is that Republicans are weary of their portrayal as consumate losers of every argument. Applying their economic theories resulted in global economic collapse. Their denial of global climate change sounds humorous, as the most dramatic weather events in history engulf their rhetoric. Their insistence that Obamacare would hurt big business now also sounds similarly stupid, in the wake of improved coverage and reduced costs for some Americans.

Wyoming Republicans are tired of being laughing stocks. They aren't appealing because they know they are in the wrong, and they know they will lose this fight. Their religious overlords nothwithstanding, they don't want to enhance their image as losers.

Exactly.

It's the least-populous state in the nation. In fact, District of Columbia has more residents than Wyoming. I have driven into Wyoming from I-25 in northern Colorado. Beautiful and open. That helps explain how it's possible that Wyoming is so beautiful yet it has such a shitty stench politically.

Wyoming's Republicans are far more libertarian than anything.

My thoughts are with Liz Cheney in this difficult time for her.

Damn! Montana's really winning the prize for digging in their heels rather than complying with the 9th circuit.

The federal case in Arkansas is also set for Nov 20.

The District court judge in Puerto Rico ruled against us.

Good grief, one of the most bigoted rulings I've ever seen.

Well I guess that judge in PR told us:

The judge closed his opinion with a verbal tribute to “traditional marriage” as “the fundamental unit of the political order. And ultimately the very survival of the political order depends upon the procreative potential embodied in traditional marriage.”

Those, he added, “are the well-tested, well-proven principles on which we have relied for centuries. The question now is whether judicial ‘wisdom’ may contrive methods by which those solid principles can be circumvented or even discarded.”

Lyle Denniston, Puerto Rico ban on same-sex marriage upheld, SCOTUSblog (Oct. 21, 2014, 10:21 PM), http://www.scotusblog.com/2014/10/puerto-rico-ban-on-same-sex-marriage-upheld/

The PR district court is in the First Circuit (Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont). so we shall see what they do with it.

Hearing date for Mississippi has already been set for November 12th. Why can't the judicial system always work this quickly lol!

Judges can exercise a great deal of discretion. Most really do not care. The few who do can be divided between those who are for us and those who are against us.

Indeed.. I wonder where this judge falls.
