What is new on the Gay Marriage front?

I used to have a somewhat benign opinion of her, not anymore.

No go for marriage equality in Australia.

She should just step down if she doesn't want to honor her oath. Simple as that.

Well, now she's flagrantly in contempt of court. I say slap her with an exorbitant fine and/or the legal fees of the other party in addition to forced removal from office.

If she wants to COMMIT SUICIDE because she may not be allowed to IMPOSE HER FUCKING "SHARIA LAW" on people, then let her do it.

Or just quit your job, b****. (Intentionally meant not to rhyme with something you scratch, but something that water comes out of which is also called a tap or a faucet.)

This comment is coming from somebody who actually agrees with the Hobby Lobby decision, in basic principle. (I would disagree if there was actually a law in place barring discrimination against GLBT, but there IS NOT...of course that puts us behind the curve among Western nations.) Restaurants often have signs, as I have also seen in some retail places, that they reserve the right not to serve somebody for any reason. BUT...those reasons do not extend to "reasons" which are already illegal because of existing laws, such as discrimination against people of other "races."

More proof that the USA is in dire need of a federal law making GLBT discrimation illegal, but that is not likely until at least the early 2020's.

The situation with that County Clerk in Kentucky has just been punted to the Supreme Court's Justice Janet Kagen: http://www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/davidbadash/kim_davis_scotus

Justice Elena Kagan isn't going to recommend this case to the full court, nor is she going to issue a stay.

There is no new point of law to be determined here. It is no different than all those racists who didn't want to act against their 'conscience' following Loving v. Virginia.

And the full court isn't going to agree to hear this is Kagan declines the request anyway.

And remember...this isn't about the clerk. She is being used by Liberty to push this point on behalf of the southern evangelicals. They have very deep pockets and will keep this going as long as they can. The court has to be aware of this and while Scalia and Thomas would likely welcome the intrusion of religion in order to allow civil servants to decide who they will provide services to, the rest of the Supremes have to be very aware of the danger of allowing a religious body like Liberty to gain any control whatsoever over the law of the land.

Since there is no legal way for Rowan County to terminate an employee who has been elected to their position, the State of Kentucky has begun, at the request of the County AG, misconduct charges against this clerk: http://www.thenewcivilrightsmovemen...davis_fired_rowan_county_officials_are_trying

It is unlikely that the Kentucky legislature will remove Kim Davis from office. The mechanism they have to accomplish this is impeachment, which is not likely to pass the state legislature.

Kentucky's state government is overwhelmingly Republican. They are not going to impeach a county official for doing what the party preaches. The residents of Rowan County are going to be without marriage licenses for quite some time, I suspect. And don't be surprised if Ms. Davis gets re-elected when her term expires.

She is paid $80,000 per year for not doing her job, BTW.

Wasn't today the day the clerk was supposed to begin issuing marriage licenses?
