What is your favorite carnival/fair food?

Hand cut french fries, with vinegar. For some reason they just taste better to me if I get them at a fair.

oooh, the Wisconsin State Fair is only a couple weeks away. And the claim to fame is the Cream puff. (Warning - you may gain 2 pounds just looking at it)

We have the State Fair in my town every October....I go for the Food and sight-seeing...I cant remember the last time I went to one of the featured concerts....Anyways......I'm an Asian Food FREAK...Every year there's 1 vendor that makes these Footlong Japanese egg-rolls that'll knock your socks off...I don't know what seasonings they use but it's truly one of a kind egg-roll and there's only one joint in my area that comes close to making egg-rolls as good as the Fair...

Another favorite is what I call the Fred Flinstone Turkey legs....Talk about Huge and Good...

Just 3 more months till the Fair...

So is it a soft Whip-Cream texture or like the White Icing/Cream you find in a Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream pie?

It used to be cotton candy. Then it was the funnel cake.

Now though, I don't have a favorite. :( The last two events I attended the food was standard, nothing outlandish... The first I ate a pulled pork bbq sandwich, the second a hot dog with caramelized onions.

But from the posts of everyone else here, if I came across some cheese curds I'd not say no....

No - it's whip-cream. Wisconsin is the Dairy state. I don't think they would allow the Little Debbie icing to cross the border;)

I used to like funnel cake, but can't keep carnival fair food anymore. It's just not healthy. I might make an exception for corn on the cob though. But that's it. ;)

Do you drink alcoholic beverages of any kind?

surprised that everybody in here loves funnel cake which makes me the oddball once again to say that i'm not a fan of it. it's not the powder that doesn't do it for me. it's more so of the fried dough. it tastes funny. not a fan of fried oreos either.

however, i am a HUGE fan of nachos. I LOVE NACHOS. LOVE IT TO DEATH! those big old dips and cheese.. my mouth is watering just thinking about it. the best nachos and cheese i've ever had had to be between when the school librarian, ms alaverez, made those for the school dance back in grade school either in the 3rd or 4th grade (the cheese was spicingly delicious) or the ones in sesame place which was the first time i had nachos in my life back in kindergarten when the same kid who bullied me and stabbed me with the pencil in my hand mom gave me some to try. it's ashame that not enough fairs sell nachos and cheese.

Refuji...No you didnt come up in this thread talking about some Raggedy Nachos...Nobody walks around the Fair grounds chomping on Nachos...You can buy that at the nearest Gas station on your way to the Fair....You can buy Nachos at K-Mart...

Do you know what Cotton Candy is? Have you heard of a Candy Apple?

When I was a kid, the New York State Fair had all sorts foods to try! There were the usual food oddities including cotton candy, fried dough, funnel cakes, designer pretzels, and faux frozen alcoholic drinks where you used to buy the curvy glass and get free refills all day long.
They also had the International Food Pavilion, with about 50 different restaurants. It made a mall food court look small in comparison.

But my favorite stuff to taste came from two different places. The New York State Agricultural Association had a potato exhibit, where you they would pass out free samples of NY state grown baked potatoes all day long. You would get a half of a baked potato, smothered in butter and salt, and a plastic fork, if you were willing to wait in line for it.

In the Dairy building (along with the butter sculptures and Borden's Elsie the Cow), there was a dairy bar that served the coldest milk I've ever tasted. Milk is the official NY state beverage, and they used to serve a medium sized plastic glass of milk (white or chocolate) for a nickel per serving. With passing years, the price went up. Last time I was there, (more than 10 years ago), they were charging fifty cents per serving. The Patrician's Bakery, a Syracuse institution (the fair is held in Syracuse) , had several locations in the building where you can buy cool cookies and pastries to go along with your milk. I used to love their half-moon cookies when I was a kid. Later on, their cannolis appealed to me more.

I wish my state fair had a lot of different stuff to try. We tend to only get the more usual stuff and a few weird deep fried things.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Chocolate covered Bacon.

Salty, Sweet, Crunchy, Fatty. The four basic food groups. :D

For the doubters, don't knock it until you've tried it. Seriously.

This year I tried deep fried ice cream. It was damn good. Tasted like cake.

I was in Washington for the 4th of July. While there I found a candy store that sold chocolate covered bacon. I was too chicken to try it though.

Also up the street from me is a donut shop that sells maple bars with bacon on top. I want to try one, but am still too chicken to try it out.

After all of these years I finally tried a deep fried snickers bar. NASTY!

Next year I am thinking of trying warm apple fries with ice cream. I am guessing they taste like pie. I may try deep fried Oreos though since so many in this thread said they were good.

I'm still a traditionalist. The jumbo corn dog is still my perennial favourite.

I have never heard of any of these; the only thing I have ever eaten at a fair is cotton candy on a stick and just once a toffee apple.

Well as per the food I had at this weekends carnival, jollof rice with moin moin.
