  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

what was going on in the 80's?

Even though I wasn't exactly from that era, I love the 80s.

Well, I only JUST remember watching that show when I was like 6 or 7, but apart from the theme music, I don't have any other memories of it.

I associate the decade more with other shows I watched - Dallas, Dynasty, The A-Team, Knight Rider, etc.

And all the popular boys at school (age 11-12) wore denim jackets, long hair, and listened to heavy metal.

I myself relented with denim clothes and my hair, but I could never stand listening to that type of music. [-X

Don't forget "Chips", only made to show the guys' asses.

Well, in the eighties John McEnroe had beaten Borg (and married Tatum O'Neal),
Boris Becker struggled with Stefan Edberg, Chad Douglas banged Kevin Williams,
Jeffrey Lee Pierce founded 'The Gun Club', the Challenger exploded, Sadat was
killed, the pope ambushed, Franz Josef Strauß died, la squadra azzurra won the
world title, 'Miami Vice' was invented....

.................................. ....and Germany introduced Hauptkommissar Horst Schimanski:

>>>The themes in Fame may have been pretty ordinary in the US, but in the countries of Western Europe of the mid-eighties the concept of working hard to achieve your dream on your own -especially when you were from a so-called 'disadvantaged' social class- was considered outrageous.

Makes sense. Can you explain "Baywatch"?

Lex

Sure.
The Pam and the 'Hoff.

Baywatch Nights worked miracles for my sexlife.

>>>Sure. The Pam and the 'Hoff.

But the show didn't do squat here in the States, and it's not like we're adverse to skin and bouncing breasts...

The 80's ARE back in the stores this fall.

I just unpacked a box of Neon socks.

If I see Parachute Pants in the next few weeks, I'll :dead:

this was my bible lol

I forgot how freakish we looked.

I remember tight levil's, Nike shoes, and polo shirts.

I had my hair spiked (which was a bit controversial @ the University of Alabama in the early 1980s ). I went for a more punk/new wave look. I had a mohawk at one point. Usually wore pegged black pants, band tee shirts, and clunky black shoes.

At my high school, you would have been called one of the "Hoods" (??? Was that what we called them???). I dunno where that term came from, but that's what we called the "goth-ish/punkers" who dressed similar to that, and smoked. :rotflmao: They were the trouble makers. :D

[Edit]
I could be wrong... SO long ago. Surely my high school days pre-dated the Crypts and Hoods gangs ? Maybe it was "Punkers" ???

The TITLE of your thread BELIES what YOU want to talk about...

For ME...

The eighties was ALL ABOUT EXCESS!!!

AWESOME music!!!

TOO much drugs...

TOO much sex...

And MORE MONEY than you KNEW what to do WITH...

fortunately -- that CONTINUED throughout the 90's for me as well...

Ahhhh -- the GOOD OLE DAYS...

:rotflmao::rotflmao::rotflmao:

p.s. does that make me OLD now???

so, I'm watching the 1982 "Fame" tv series... there's an entire plotline about how this one male dancer thinks that tights are a little too girlie to wear.

can someone explain to me wtf was going on in the 80's where tights are too gay for a "tough guy from the hood" but this is perfectly acceptable?

Back then, it was common for guys to wear short shorts, just like in the NBA. It was not usual, however, for guys to wear tights. Interesting but today, it's acceptable for guys to wear frilly type workout shorts, slinky under armour t shirts, skinny jeans, and tight t shirts that show everything. Also, they wear long shirts and giant shorts that could pass for dresses and skirts--just sew the two short legs together and it becomes a skirt.
