Summer is stubbornly holding on here in South Florida. We only got a glancing blow from Helene, just a few squalls and occasional blustery winds. Thursday was just like a normal day, with services running as usual, and me doing my regular shopping. It is 81 degrees right now, and very humid, 91% humidity with a dew point of 78. It will be very hot again, with a high of 93 F, heat index of 108.

We're getting occasional spitting rain, but overall not too much. Hurricane Rafael is nearby in the Gulf, but not coming this way, fortunately. High today 84, it was 87 yesterday. On my walk to the store just now the rain was falling straight down; then it was pounding down at a 45° angle; on the way back it was falling straight down again.
