There's a forest fire just east of town, so the sky is filled with smoke like a hanging yellow sheet and white ashes have been falling like a dusting of snow. The horizon is merely a silhouette suggesting trees and hills. The sun looks like a giant orange traffic light.

It's hot and humid, and though most people are complaining, I find I love the smell. There's something about this strange weather that makes me feel placid, almost dreaming.

^ Pretty much how it makes me feel too. It's sunny yet cool here and there's a delicate wind. I love autumn.

Summer's last hurrah! Ridiculously hot 27 to 30 for the next couple of days, but thankfully the evenings are cool enough to take care of it now. Overnight lows of 6 to 9.

Had fog in the river valley this morning. A year ago my calendar tells me we had frost. Always hard to say when the first hard frost will start killing off the flowers, pretty much any time between now and mid-October.

Oh that reminds me! I need to pick some apples! Saw one or two in the ground and most of them are probably ready, and it's better to get them before any frost even tries.

I thought yesterday it was just overcast until I watched the news and they talked about the fire. The news said all of WA and good parts of OR, ID and MT are covered in smoke.

Yeah. No ash here, just a lot of smoke.


I went outside and started to choke. My asthma can't take it.


How is your breathing? I feel bad for anyone that has to be outside.

I love it! (I mean the smoke, not just the breathing.) :lol:

No troubles, it fills me with happy memories of smokey air.

Lots of people are walking around here in masks, though.

Temperatures are in the mid 50's F.

The temperatures have been below the norm this entire year.
