The Premiership is the most competitive, popular and exciting football league in the world. It is watched world-wide by millions. And is not tainted by accusations of corruption. :=D:

Who do you think will win it this 2006/07 season? Chelsea? ManUtd? Arsenal? Liverpool? Or even my beloved Spurs?

The season starts 19/08/06.

Liverpool of course!

I'd like to see the Hot Spurs do good too (maybe second , behind L'pool) cuz of Dimitar Berbatov, one of my favourite players, fellow Bulgarian. He's a great striker! :)

Go Liverpool, Go!

You might find this article from "The Times" (London) 24/07/06 interesting. Click on the link in the article to get a league table of the "Greatest English League Clubs". Some surprising names in surprising positions. :-)

Liverpool is number one, of course :D hihi, thanks for this link... Man U is second, fair enough!

Chelsea gets disappointing 14.

Good stuff Greaves.... ta....

So, what are your thoughts on Carrick signing for United? What are your opinions on him as a player? I dare say you've seen more of him that I have.

It greaves me ;) :( It looks as if the deal will be done tomorrow. Carrick is not yet a world class player, but he is only 25; the best is yet to come. If Spurs had secured a place in the Champions League, he might have stayed...

I wish him well, but hope ManUtd end the season without winning a trophy :D

Cronulla Sharks!!

Well - I'm still hoping....

Oh - wait - you're a Pom aren't you? So you aren't talking about Australian Rugby League?

Oh well....never mind... :p

Good to see the mods are on the ball, even if it's a differant shape ;) I do watch ARL matches on Sky. Tonight it's Dragons v Storm. And lots of Aussies play/manage over here. It's a great game. The erstwhile London Broncos used to play just down the road from where I'm sitting, at Brentford FC - the only football ground in the UK which has a pub on every corner! :D - and I went to quite a few of their games.

Were you at Endeavour Field on 21st August 2005?

68 - 6 over Manly....No - I wasn't there, but I was a happy chappie at that result :D

I just wish there had been a bit more to be happy about in recent weeks.

They won 8 out of 9 mid season - were touted as the "form" team of the comp - then seemingly fell apart :(

Chelsea v Liverpool on Sunday 13/08/06 in the Community Shield. Should be an interesting curtain-raiser to the Premiership season which starts next week-end.
Who will win? Depends on the manager's selection. It's a "friendly" fixture which raises money for various causes. But pride is at stake: I think Chelsea might want it more...

Pleased to see Liverpool won the Community Shield today.:-) Not so pleased to see Terry appointed England captain. Stephen Gerrard should have got the captain's armband. Terry is a good player, but Gerrard is a world-class player and a born leader.

Just a shame Stevie doesn't play for a great team like THFC;)

We all know the mighty Reading FC will win the Preiership in their first season in it.(!) :gogirl: :=D:

Just to enlighten the wider JUB audience, Reading FC, in this context, is not a solitary pastime for Canadian JUBbers with nothing else to do, but a town just outside of London, whose football club won promotion to the Premiership this year for the first time in their history:=D: See:

And a woeful performance by Spurs sees them lose 2-0 at Bolton!oops!

Man Utd and Chelsea play tomorrow.

Spurs back to winning ways last night v Sheffield Utd. Should, however, have won by a few more goals. Robbie Keane was magnificent.:D

Quite a few games tonite. Will ManUtd do to Charlton what they did to Fulham? Will Chelsea leave the Riverside with an empty net? Will Reading produce a novel result at Villa?(!) (!) (!)

I can dream of the Premiership (I support Port Vale. As i type this we are top of League One. We have also won all of our 5 opening games. One of them being a League Cup First Round win against Preston. Don't think we will go up this year though)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/p/port_vale/default.stm

Chelsea will win the Premiership (again). It will be closer though. Liverpool or Man Utd will be second.

ManUtd's first three Premiership games - all won - were against London clubs. And their next 2 Premiership games are v Spurs (9/9/06) and Arsenal (17/9/06). Don't know if such a coincidence has ever happened before.

Went to WHL yesterday for Spurs v Everton. Carrick is sorely missed.:( Lots of possession by Spurs but very little intelligent use of it.

A lot of fans, me included, are very pissed off by the sale of Carrick and the lack of ambition it shows by those running the club.](*,)

I think that if Middlesbrough can beat Chelsea (again) then Middlesbrough are going to win the Premiership...

Hmmm...strange they can beat Chelsea but not Reading

They play Portsmouth tonite. Whenever I see Middlesborough on TV the ground seems to be half full. They had almost 30,000 there for the Chelsea game, but there will probably be a lot fewer tonite. It can't help the players to see so many empty seats.

Southgate(35) v Harry Redknapp(59). Youth v experience! A draw seems on cards if history is anything to go by. Middlesborough have yet to win v Portsmouth in their Premiership meetings.

Watch Kanu closely. And be aware of the referee..|

Football - the game where the ball is kicked with the foot, and only the goalkeeper is allowed to handle the ball - is the ONLY world sport which refuses to use modern technology in ANY area of decision-making.

The referee is the sole arbiter of EVERY decision in the game.

As we have seen, with the Serie A corruption scandal this year, (see Italy thread),
this invites corruption, indeed, encourages corruption.

So always watch the referee, whether in the Premiership, la Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga, etc...

The role of the referee has not changed since the 1880's. It is a disgrace.](*,)
