White House Official Fox News A Wing of the Republican Party

Really? Wow. I didn't even unpack before I went out exploring my first day away at college. Well you'll do it your way and before long San Diego will be your town. Be bold. (*8*)

Well, thanks for the advice!

:3

yup, I mean obviously I can't tell them, I'm... you know, because they'll definitely stop any sort of financial assistance...

I'm a first year and I have yet to go exploring in SD!

Whoa!

My first day in college I put enough of my stuff away in my room so I could be ready to go the next day, then hopped on my touring bike and went out to see the neighborhood. I found the nearest public swimming pool, the closest store with fresh produce, the best area park for cross-country running, the nearest video rental place, a music store where I could buy replacement guitar strings, and more.

And a couple of days a week, in place of my morning run I did more bicycle exploring. Before halfway through my first term I knew good bike routes to a good shopping mall, a couple of movie theaters, and a hospital with a pool where I could swim for free.

I presume you have a bicycle; go exploring with it, and call it your fitness workout. :D

I mean I went out exploring but, like DT San Diego is kind of far away. And I don't have a bike, and I haven't had time to use the bus to go to Hillcrest and scout it out! The first day of school I was hit with 100 pages of text book reading!

Where are you? UCSD? If so, you don't need to go into Hillcrest. Some of the most interesting things are in the least obvious places, and that includes gay men. ;)

But you take me back. I lived in SD when Hillcrest was a dump and we were buying up broken down old Spanish Colonials for next to nothing and fixing them up. Then at night we drove down to WCPC and danced til last call. Good times.

Yup that's mah school! Where are these least obvious places, pray tell!
And don't say Black's Beach, that is such a bitch to climb down. >:[

The stuff worth having is the stuff worth working for.

Lace up your sneakers and go for the gold!

And I've heard parts of it are paved, there are stairs and railings and whatnot. Back in the 70s it was rock and dirt path cliff hiking.

I used to do it with a cooler in one hand and daypack on my back with stuff like towel, book, radio. Christ, I loved that hike down. Back up was a bitch but I'd just stop now and then and take in the view. So gorgeous.

But, that said, when I wasn't in the mood to hike the cliff down to Black's, I did just fine on beaches like Torrey Pines. Sure you have to be more observant and play it cooler but I found plenty of guys to play with, just walk south from that place where everybody parks along the highway, towards Black's. Had me very many memorable hours with surfers along that rocky stretch. ..|

:3

Well I lived there 30 years ago so places have probably changed. Beaches tend to stay the same.

But explore. Go to places that interest you. Other gay men will probably be there.

mmkay!

I think I ventured to Downtown once for a concert but that is about it.

Adventuring is what I'll be doing for Thanksgiving!

:]

100 pages...

how long till you needed to finish it? Overnight would be a bit much for a freshman; next week should be a breeze.

I got hit with 1200 pages of reading my first day in one graduate course -- to be completed by the weekly seminar, three days away.

yikes!

I made the mistake of taking two political science classes in the same quarter so I've got 100 pages a day. I slack off and leave it till the end of the unit. So its like 500 pages. :[

Ok, Here's a story that was reported on Fox by "Fox News Analyst" Lt. Col. Ralph Peters. I'm not sure of the date of the story as the Salem-News reported it 10-20 and another date of 7-22 is in the story.
Here is a typical story by Fox and is a reason I can say it is a worthless network.
I have seen no one at Fox voice disapproval of the story so I can only think they agree with it. As Tim King titled it, I think it is treasonous also. Would any of the Fox jubbers like to agree with the story? Didn't think so.
There is an addition to the story I think y'all would be interested in. It is when the last Viet Nam POW was released, John McCain did everything he could to discredit the Vet. A Vet held by the Viet Cong for 14 years, I believe, and McCain who only was held for 5 years tried to discredit him. There are stories of McCain admitting military details with the Cong and he gets out of it. Well read it, it's down past the middle of the story.

FOX News: A Cowardly Talking Head & Treasonous Anti-American Crap
Opinion by Tim King Salem-News.com

"When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains, And the women come out to cut up what remains, Jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains An' go to your Gawd like a soldier." -"Young British Soldier" by Rudyard Kipland (I'm pretty sure he meant Kipling)

(SALEM, Ore.) - A talking head at FOX news says that it is OK for our enemy, the Taliban, to kill a fellow American. "Fox News Analyst" Lt. Col. Ralph Peters is an apparent Taliban sympathizer, and a regular on-air personality at America's most polarizing, politically skewed, and outright dishonest TV network.

Most Americans know by now that a U.S. Army soldier named Bowe R. Bergdahl of Idaho, who is 23-years old, was captured in Afghanistan and fell into the hands of the Taliban.

This should be a matter of grave concern for all Americans and millions are rallying for Bergdahl's safe return.

But Peters and FOX, both staunch supporters of far right politics and vocal proponents of the invasion of Iraq in 2003, are trying to throw this young man under the train.

The network and their talking head are putting a ball into motion, trying to do what America always has done before when the politics of POW's didn't match the occasion. In this case, suggesting he may have deserted.

-snip-

Repeating History: Marine Robert Garwood

In 1979, when the last POW unexpectedly returned from Vietnam with stories about other American POW's still alive, Republican Senator John McCain went slightly ballistic and did everything he could to discredit a man who had been taken captive and held for an incredibly long 14 years.

So, if I'm understanding everything aright, there is NO credible news outlet anywhere in the US that can give ANY kind of fair and balanced view on things American without advancing either a right or left agenda?

No Truth to be had anywhere then hey as everything reported is supsect and spun. How then can you believe anything you read/hear.

You people are imploding. :)

BBC America is a good site for facts.

No, you're misunderstanding. Much of their straight news coverage is easily trusted and usually unbiased. Not even Fox's fellow competitors are willing to question that. (see Jake Tapper's question to Gibbs today)

Where the biases on all the networks come into focus is during their opinion programming. (like O'reilly or Olbermann)

If I want the unvarnished truth on an issue, I usually go to BBC.

Actually, biases have been proven on Sixty Minutes and other news shows -- and not just bias, but outright lies in order to support a position.

Yes Fox's competitors understand that if MSNBC can be called a news organization then Fox News should be called a news organization.

But ObamaCo does not admit that. ObamaCo is doing what ObamaCo has always done: manipulate people to create more power for ObamaCo and ruin someone else. ObamaNation is, at its core, divisive and destructive. I'm no fan of Fox News as a media organization but ObamaCo, being OUR government and trying to manipulate the way they do, is worse.

Tapper and Gibbs yesterday:

Tapper: It’s escaped none of our notice that the White House has decided in the last few weeks to declare one of our sister organizations “not a news organization” and to tell the rest of us not to treat them like a news organization. Can you explain why it’s appropriate for the White House to decide that a news organization is not one –

(Crosstalk)

Gibbs: Jake, we render, we render an opinion based on some of their coverage and the fairness that, the fairness of that coverage.

Tapper: But that’s a pretty sweeping declaration that they are “not a news organization.” How are they any different from, say –

Gibbs: ABC -

Tapper: ABC. MSNBC. Univision. I mean how are they any different?

Gibbs: You and I should watch sometime around 9 o’clock tonight. Or 5 o’clock this afternoon.

Tapper: I’m not talking about their opinion programming or issues you have with certain reports. I’m talking about saying thousands of individuals who work for a media organization, do not work for a “news organization” -- why is that appropriate for the White House to say?

Gibbs: That’s our opinion.

And what is Tapper talking about?

This:

In the media world, the main reaction to the barrage of Fox criticism by the Obama White House has been less outrage, and more puzzlement as to what Obama’s aides hope to gain by taking on the network so forcefully.

A day after White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Obama senior adviser David Axelrod said other journalists should no longer treat Fox as a bona fide news outlet, the comments generated only a single, tangential question at the White House’s daily briefing for reporters.

Still, the comments set off alarm bells with some journalists and media analysts.

“I can never remember a White House urging news organizations to boycott other news organizations. That strikes me as unprecedented,” said Thomas DeFrank, a Washington journalist who has covered eight presidents and now serves as the bureau chief of the New York Daily News.

“I see it as bullying a news organization, by the time you get to telling ABC or some other news organization how they should behave to another news organization,” said David Zurawik, media critic for the Baltimore Sun. “Someone should tell them: you’re one branch of government. We’re something else over here. Don’t lecture us about how we should behave towards one another.”

ObamaCo is, as Anita Dunn explained they did during the campaign, trying to control the news. Anybody who respects and appreciates Democracy will be outraged at that -- whether it's Bush & Co doing it or ObamaCo.

Thank you Nick. It amazes me that more people aren't outraged by this. This not just about Fox News anymore. News organizations should begin to start worrying now.

It seems to me that journalism is asleep. I wonder what will wake them up?

I don't like ObamaCo. This is very similar to lets see, censorship?

Thanks for that post, Nick!

That Gibbs can stand there with a straight face and deliver the view that it's legitimate for government to declare what is and what isn't a news organization is incredibly chilling. It takes a "true believer" sort to do that.

He's on par with other 'true believers' we love so much: the ReligioPublicans, the Taliban....

No wonder Obama isn't pushing to get the "USA PATRIOT" Act overturned, as many of his supporters expected: he doesn't believe in free speech, either.
