White Student Beaten On Bus, Crowd Cheers

You will have noted from my posts, that I have drawn no firm conclusions, nor made allegations, on the rights or wrongs, of this matter.

I have repeatedly stated that the police investigation will uncover the facts.

You are entitled to express your personal opinions. But your opinions, are merely your assumptions.

The facts will be revealed in due course, when the police have finished their investigations.

The judicial system will determine the guilt, or innocence of those involved.

I am a distant observer, as are you.

Why are you so pissed? I never said what I wrote was fact, nor did I say I was there. I did what you did. I never said the driver did something, nor did I say he didn’t. In fact I used the word probably. You are too angry of a little man.

The only definitive I wrote was the driver was wrong. I didn’t write to what point. Stop being so pissy.

You continue to make unjustifiable assumptions.

I am not pissed.

I am addressing your posts without rancour, nor any willingness to pass judgements, on your highly personalised conclusions.

I never indulge in emotionally charged posts. Rather I stick with the facts.

What do you think Rosa Parks would have said to thpse kids who did all the hooting and hollering,
clapping and cheering, and taking cell phone pictures of the beat-up kid?

I don't know. What do you think Jesus would have said?

The bus driver needs to be fired. I don't care if he was afraid to inervene... if you're too chicken to stand up to a bunch of teen bullies, being a bus driver isn't a job for you.

But he'd probably get fired for touching the kids. No-win situation for the driver.

Two Belleville West High School students were charged under the juvenile code today with felony counts of aggravated battery stemming from the violent beating of a 17-year-old student on a school bus earlier this week.

The incident grabbed national headlines and incited a heated debate about race when police said the incident, involving a white victim and black assailants, may have been racially motivated. They later recanted that claim.

Both students have been suspended from school and could face expulsion.

Belleville police released video of the Monday morning incident and labeled it “racially motivated.” Later, a department spokesman said his initial comments were “personal and emotional” and not accurate.

"The incident appears now to be more about a couple of bullies on a bus dictating where people sit,” said Capt. Don Sax.

The two teenagers—who are 14 and 15 years-old—were charged as juveniles because they are under the age of 17. Illinois law shields the disclosure of their names because they are minors.

So it's a case of bullying? Did they also dictate where any of the other black students sat? Does the video show them doing that? They need to be expelled from the school They need to be banned from ever riding another school bus again. Let their parents worry about trying to find alternative transportation to school. Make them ride a city bus to school. Hopefully it will require that they have make frequent bus changes and require them to leave the house earlier in the morning in order to make all their bus changes and still get to school on time. When they have to stand out in freezing cold and wind, rain and snow waiting for the city bus, they'll have plenty of time to thnk about the consequences of their actions.

They picked on the one who they felt was the weakest..That could have happened to anyone black or white, also they must have dictated where the other black kids sat since they are sitting by themselves on a crowded bus with some sitting three to a seat...

I'm just gonna sit here and watch this thread take off.

I love that! "Cindy, the TV's leaking!"

I have nothing to say on this topic as it's just wrong and I don't want to accidentally put my foot in my mouth.

^Here's what Rush Asshole Limbaugh has to say about the matter, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.

According to Mr. Limbaugh, racism is something you are born with, like homosexuality. #-o

If you have issues with blood pressure, I suggest you don't click on the link above.

The person who wrote the article in your link above compared the incident on the bus to the Skip Gates incident at Harvard. That's stupid. The Skip Gates incident happened because he refused to comply with the orders of the responding officer. The incident on the bus was just several black students beating up on one white boy in a bullying incident.

As for the "inborn" quote, Rush was being sarcastic, because he was referring to an article that Newsweek published that week:

The cover of that magazine can be seen here.

The full article:
http://www.newsweek.com/id/214989/page/1

Rush was incredulous at the claims that Newsweek had made in their study.

Here's the full quote:

"If homosexuality being inborn is what makes it acceptable, why does racism being inborn not make racism acceptable? I'm sorry — I mean, this is the way my mind works. But apparently now (according to Newsweek), we don't choose racism, we just are racists. We are born that way. We don't choose it. So shouldn't it be acceptable? Excuse — this is according to the way the left thinks about things."

In other words:

If homosexuality is inborn, it should therefore be acceptable.
If Newsweek states that racism is inborn, does that mean that it should also be acceptable?

What he's saying is that as scant as the evidence is for congenital racism,
it's apparently now as credible as the evidence that homosexuality is inborn.

So, does that mean that racism, being inborn, could also become a protected civil rights class, or at least a defense to a hate crime? (And yes, I'm being sarcastic.)

Um...uh...Rush actually says that we're BORN with homosexuality? In other words, we don't have a choice?

I always thought that he (and others of that type) invariably say that we always CHOOSE to be gay, and that we could change straight if we wanted to (and that we probably should).

Geez, maybe he actually said something right for a change.

But not entirely, because we are not born with racism. I think it's been pretty well proven that racism is entirely a learned mindset - and of course it's easily learned because racist influences abound in the visible public arena.

I think racism has more to do with upbringing more than anything! Like how you're family raised you to think or if a certain person of a certain race did something bad to you.....

Yep.

Goggle the lyrics from "You've Got to be Carefully Taught" from "South Pacific".
The pretty much hits it on the head.

(Oh, God ! I'm referencing Broadway show tunes ! I must be racist....er, homosexual... Well, I was born with something or other.... )
