It is not very supportable to claim that the way to mainstream musical success is to pander only to gay customers, especially in a setting or genre where doing so could turn off all of your heterosexual customers.

He took a career risk making the song, particularly within the genre he performs in. The notion that this was just easy money in the bank is pretty ridiculous.

I don't know you or your parents, but if they simultaneously play the victim while being wrong about everything, I can tell I sure as hell wouldn't find any of you attractive, because so far, you sure aren't interesting. And my mind isn't in any gutter, I just don't see how someone can ask if someones' parents beat them and THEN act like they were "attacked" first. No, I prefer calling people on their bullshit when it's warranted.

Now, as far as this thread, I am done with you. As far as Macklemore, I don't see how ONE song makes you a "gay icon", and if it does, how come no one is mentioning that country chick from the Grammys that also gave us a nod?
 
I'm not a fan of his music but I do appreciate his advocacy for gay rights. I'd much rather have a gay ally getting popular and winning awards than some bigoted asshole.
 
Although I support whatever venture, theme, ideology he's been up onto but I concerned for his future career.
People start to feel he's a bit preachy and even worst: faking..I wonder what he'll be doing next?
Being a music superstar is about maintenance too.

Isn't it amazing? 10 years ago, everyone was complaining that not enough straight people or straight celebrities would speak up for gay rights.

Now, they're accused of just trying to "capitalize and corporatize our civil rights", lol.

Exactly. Today, we're getting much more support than ever, and previous generations have faught long and hard for this much acceptance. It honestly pisses me off that people are being so picky and whiny!

5-10% of the population is gay. If half of these voted for a party that doesn't support gay rights, you would have a diminishingly small number of voters that can help to change the laws of the country for equality. Straights in your business is nothing to be sniffed at. They're part of the crowd that'll help spread change of social attitudes that will enable informed voters to help out the gay community. Putting them down is not the most intelligent way of furthering the cause.

Another stupid thread. It seems it is you who labelled Macklemore a gay icon. I think most of us are happy that there is one fearless performer out there who has made an incredibly gay positive statement and is helping to change the minds of many people in the US.

Wahy do these things trouble you so much? What does your therapist say about these obsessions you have?

It is nice though that you have finally made a friend here on JUB. Enjoy him while he lasts, because I don't anticipate he'll be here for long.
