Why does life always takes away the things we like the most?

So Rod, if you would be so kind. Please share your overall experience after the fact. Are you happy that you had it done? What about sensitivity issues? I hope you still visit this thread to read this.

Sorry, I see you've already done this. I didn't go to the last page when I wrote the above.

My problem with circumcision is and always will be that the procedure is performed on infants who have no say in the matter. That strikes me as a profound violation of personhood.

During my pediatrics rotation our preceptor tried to convince us that it was painless, and I didn't see a single little guy who wasn't wailing his head off. All the glucose solution in the world didn't keep them quiet. In short, it's a hell of a thing to have done to you on your second or third day of life.

The foreskin is there for a reason: it protects an extremely sensitive part of a man. If it was useless evolution would have taken care of it ages ago.

I share your philosophy, and it is something atrocious to do to a little human being, but speaking about aesthetics, i've seen that in general, circumcisions done at birth have better outcomes and look more pleasant that those performed in adulthood.
So that is why in my personal opinion, it is better to either be cut at birth or be uncut forever. (I was circumcised because of phymosis, so it was not optional).

I have watched three live circumcisions of newborns and in none of them have I witnessed much of any reaction of pain by the babies. One was a mere, single whimper. Another was a couple of faint cries, then stopped. One cried a bit louder but was very quickly calmed. I saw nothing that could be identified as even slightly traumatic.

When in the Army, an 18 y/o boy in my barracks voluntarily was circumcised. It was done as an out patient surgery. He was back in the barracks late that afternoon. It was done with a local and he said he hardly felt anything. But, later that night, and the next day or so, he was pretty sore but tolerable.

Us nasties in the barracks brought him lots of porn mags. Bad us.

After he had healed, he was quite happy that he had done it and would recommend it to others should their need arise. He had no problem adjusting to resuming sex, including masturbation, which he claimed became even more sensitive and pleasant. He also mentioned that he enjoyed the benefits of improved, easier hygiene.

I, however, have also read of botched circs. I would think there is no excuse for that.

I will just give once more my own personal case once again, which is that I have phimosis, I still have it, the urologist wasn't worried about it, I wasn't ordered or pressured to have surgery done, my relative who saw children with this condition said to me it wasn't important, I've never had any pain or problems in all my life with it, and I'm increasingly finding this American obsession with equating phimosis almost like some sort of life-threatening emergency to be ridiculously stupid, and driven by the American health corporations who have a vested interest in putting men under the knife for a quick profit.

Enough of the hysteria and mania about this condition. If you're not experiencing pain or discomfort or any issues with it, then just forget about it, ignore it, and get on with your life. That's what I did.

Thanks for the update and the followup picture. Nice. It's good to know it turned out to your satisfaction.
