Not how can we get black people to support gays?

if i asked the second question, some would interpret that as implying no blacks support gays. get it?

a co-worker and i had a discussion today (he is black) about this topic. I asked him why after the civil rights movement some blacks are still opposed to equal rights for gays. he said "it's a cultural thing." to me this is no different than the prejudice whites tried to justify against blacks. and while most gays tend to be liberal and accepting in general, and certainly voted more heavily in support of Obama, it seems as though blacks justify their prejudice while simultaneously criticizing people who are prejudice against them. anyone else bothered by this?

I'm not going to read through all the replies...some but not all.

The part of America called 'Black America' is certainly not all one thing. The "cultural" thing is that there are multitudes of perspectives on every issue. Within Black America there is actually quite a lot of racial diversity. Genetically, there is more variation among black Americans than among white Americans. I mention this to point out the diversity of "black roots."

Besides genetic diversity, there is tremendous religious-cultural diversity along any axis. Not all blacks are, as the stereotype has it, "more religious" than whites.

Why might a person "not support gays"? To some brains, it is something hard to understand. "Simple" as that. The artists of explanation might find a way to explain it to the hardest heads; so don't give up hope.

if i asked the second question, some would interpret that as implying no blacks support gays. get it?

No

because the first question implies all black people doesnt support gays meaning no black person support gays

and the two guys above just answered the second question

I didn't say that we shouldn't do anything. What I'm saying is that expecting an entire race/ethnicity to be sympathetic to gays isn't realistic at all. There are many black supporters of the gays and there are many that are not. The same can be said for any race. Every ethnicity has been subjected to persecution, slavery, or some form of widespread degradation, so it's senseless to try and make it seem like blacks need to be blamed for something here. Jews were subjected to the Holocaust, but I can bet that 100% of the Jews do not support the gays.

there will always be bigotry, prejudice, sexism, racism, etc. but for the last time, no other culture has simultaneously pushed for EQUAL rights while then delivering a 70% SUPPORT of prop 8. that is what seperates the blacks from the whites, from the hispanics, from the jews, etc.

really, this isn't that hard if you look at it from an unbiased perspective.

my thread next week will be dedicated to "why don't all gays support blacks when they have both suffered unfair oppressions from majority groups"

as fun as this has been i have a company to run in the morning, thanks to all of you who brought good comments. and for those who brought malice, venom and counter productivity, thanks for the laughs.

okay, pay attention. if i say "all tall people should drive convertibles," does that imply no tall people currently drive convertibles? of course not, suggesting for "all" to do something is not to imply nobody is doing it. ](*,)

Goodnight

if i say "all tall people should drive convertibles," does that imply no tall people currently drive convertibles?

Seriously it's like talking to a wall

answer the question, its a yes or no question. if i say "all tall people should drive convertibles," am i implying nobody is currently driving convertibles?

come on, this is like 8th grade english. yes, or no?

Now you feel my pain. ](*,)

For real he doesnt get that just because black people was a vocal part of the civil rights movement doesnt mean that their culture, religion, etc which has many predjuduces against homosexuality would change

I mean really he has to be an idiot to not get what we're saying

then he adds "should" in that tall example like he is too dumb to know that putting the word "should" would totally change thse context of his question

its totally 6th grade english
ask me the question again without the word should and see how idiotic you look

in case you didn't notice its a completely different question. but follows the same path do demonstrate my point. you seemed to have difficulty in understanding my original question, so i was trying to make it easier on you.

how's this:

"why don't all tall people drive convertibles?"

(why don't all blacks support gays?")

are you really going to try to claim this implies no tall people currently drive a convertible?

might want to retract the "idiotic" comment because you just owned yourself pretty good

well since you said why dont all tall people drive convertibles you are implying no tall people drive converetibles

which you are wrong for you to GROUP ALL TALL PEOPLE INTO ONE CHARACHTERISTIC there are tall people who drive convertibles

Just like it was wrong for you to GROUP ALL BLACK PEOPLE IN ONE CHARACHTERISTIC TRAIT not supporting gays when there are blacks who ares support gays

I cant believe you spent more time arguing with me about your question then the actual issue itself which proves you really dont wanna change shit

Goodnight

i started this thread 6 hours ago, it took me 5 minutes to make my point. not exactly more time now is it?

and sorry, but you still failed to grasp the sentence.

look up the definition of the word ALL and then come back in your own thread

if you wanted to imply that the majority of blacks or some blacks don't support gays you know there are way better words to use you know like Most or Some

Or Why doesn't every black person support gays?

"Some" already do, and to me "Most" is settling. I think the goal (while it will never be achieved) should be equal rights from, and for, all.

I guess I just have higher aspirations than others.
