  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Why don't gay men try to settle down?

I'll agree that I'm open to 'settling down' but not 'settling' to do so. If I meet someone that I know is really the one for me, great, if not, that's ok too.

I want to settle down, I dislike sleeping around as well.

I've had 2 great long term relationships and one or two flings.

I've currently been sexless and single for close to (or more than) 2 years because I hate just having random hookups with strangers. Id rather have that fun where you can just be with someone and relax as well, enjoying the fun of everyday life WITH the fun of sex.

Monogamous men don't exist. Marriage is made for women, not for men. A married woman not giving her husband all necessary sexual freedom, is simply idiotic.

I'll let my mom know that my dad is just imaginary then.

My boyfriend and I have been living together over a year, but neither of us really "ran to the bars"... we both had past relationships...they just didn't work out...

So I'm not sur eif we "settled down" lol...

We should have the possibility to drown threads as unwanted young cats :)

(yes I'm awful sometimes)

Oakpope, does the Seine flow strongly this evening? I have a lockable (organic) Whole Foods Tote.

haha, there are so many things that could be interpreted there in many inappropriate ways, I chuckle just from the thought :)

Kudos for the right spelling of our beautiful (??) river :)

I know so many guys who will not "settle" for anything less than perfection, and that's a shame. What right does anyone have to demand perfection from anyone else? I believe that you can settle for someone you like, and the true love will follow.

Oh my god, a true naif.

While most of my friends are on their second or even third marriages, and some with none, it'll be 25 years this November for me and mine. Things seem to crumble when their perfect partner turns out to not be perfect after all. The true love comes for those who are worthy.

Do you still stand by this? Because for the life of me, I can't understand how it could be true.

It is as true as you wish for it to be within your own relationship. You are free to determine the dynamic and terms of the interactions you have with your own partner; there is no universal decree that arbitrates how two individuals should act towards each other before they are able to accurately proclaim that they are 'in a relationship'.

Being in a relationship doesn't have to mean spending every minute of your lives together, nor does it involve knowing exactly where your partner is at all times and vice versa. It doesn't eliminate your right to take a solitary trip to where ever you may wish to visit, or to go to 'the game' or 'the bar' with your friends instead of with your significant other. You don't even have to be monogamous or plan to live together in the future.

If you feel trapped or suffocated by your relationship, you're doing it wrong.

How your friends choose to regulate the dynamic of their own relationship is completely inconsequential to how you may decide to do so, and theirs is not an accurate representation of 'every relationship ever'.

To make use of the cliche; 'just do you!'

This thread makes me want to call my husband just to hear his voice.
