Should that be Western Europe? Countries like Poland aren't a whole lot of laughs.
That thought also crossed my mind.

By "America" does she mean the US or the Americas as a whole? Cuz last I checked, a lot of Latin American countries aren't exactly gay friendly, lmao.

The title of the book though is misleading...the whole eastern portion of Europe, including part of Turkey, Russia, Hungary, Poland and some of the other Balkans is about as unfriendly as it gets for LGBTQ+ people without just throwing them all in jail.
As for 'america', last time I checked in both north (canada) and central and south america there are a number of countries as friendly for homos as western Europe.
I think the author was just sloppy and you can try to argue this for the sake of arguing as you always do in order to fill your day...or you can accept that we will just agree to disagree.

I didn't know that the US and Canada weren't gay friendly. I live in a ostentatiously gay friendly town--Los Angeles--and my partner and I have traveled all over the country--including small towns in the Deep South--and have always felt welcome. Moscow and Saint Petersburg were welcoming also.
How openly/obviously gay are you?
Were you obviously just passing through as potential customers/tourists? You know-- 'Spend your cash, but then, move along.'
Can you be sure that you didn't pay them to be welcoming?
