Why I stopped being a Right-Winger...

Really?

You actually read the article?

Here's that quiz that I was talking about earlier: "Which portion spoke to you the most, and why?"

I'm being serious, this is a chance that I hope that we can all connect on some level. :)

The portion that spoke to me the most was the condemnation of the hate speech like Breitbart's (who was canonized when he died) and Coulter's. This hit a nerve because of the last two flights I took back east I sat next to two elderly gentlemen, both conservatives. And both were morally intact and would probably condemn what is being said by politicians like West down in Florida.

It's good to hear from a conservative that this talk is CRAZY! I know what's going to happen next though... they're going to push this person aside (if they haven't already) like they've done with Powell and Frum, Bush's former speechwriter.

^ You read it too? :luv:

I've never heard what the "right" is doing as being described as "hysteria."

Then having a explanation of how "the media" just plays on, and builds upon that hysteria.

It's messed up.

And NOT in a good way for our Republic, and those championing the cause of our Democracy are the very people screaming the loudest for bringing it down.

So Ben would you say that Rush Limbaugh is a constant and honored voice in the conservative community? Have you ever heard his broadcast?

I won't even mention Sandra Fluke.
Harry Reid is Dirty Harry or Dirty Greasy Harry.
Michelle Obama is Uppity and plays songs like Baby's got back while referring to anything the First lady has done.
Nancy Pelosi " As I've often wondered, is she genuinely this uneducated, uninformed, silly, stupid, whatever -- and I've concluded there isn't a word to describe the status of her brain."

I could go on until JUB ran out of storage space as his show is one insult after another while leaving out the other side of the argument.

But he is but one.

Bill Oreilly : "Bill O’Reilly had Dr. Marc Lamont Hill as a guest on his show and they were discussing President Barack Obama’s plan to bring 1,200 troops to the Mexican border. O’Reilly then brought up the issue of drugs and told Dr. Hill that he looked like he sold cocaine."

Sean Hannity: "Today while attempting to insult the President, the little lost boy tripped over his own limited knowledge of basic English as he was whining that Obama is a “crybaby.” Sean explained that since “crybaby” is an “adjective,” it’s not a name and hence, Sean is not name-calling.

Only crybaby is not an adjective. Crybaby is a noun. Sigh. And Sean is whining. Sean is the cry-baby. Someone make it stop."

Joe Wilson isn't a personality that could be excused for just working ratings or being funny. He is a congress critter (Yes I insult all of them). Yet that position doesnt stop him from failing to discuss the issue but shouting "You're a Liar" to the President in a moment of ZERO class that would have most of the previous congressmen rolling in their graves.

There is no doubt that both sides engage in name calling to satisfy their petty viewers need to feel superior. However you ignore a large portion of American media and influence if you think Republicans don't hurl insults just to make a splash.

Just like the idiot who choose to use Memorial Day to bring up the subject of the military being heroes JUST so he could make headlines with his rather ignorant viewpoint.

No it is an evenly played game.

Rush is an INDIviDUAL

MSNBC is an owned and operated station devoted to denigrating Republicans EVERY day for many hours - with hosts AND guests calling Mitt Romney names

You have ONE Bill O'Reilly quote to prove what?

The level of vitriol on the left far exceeds that on the right

The media narrative is similar to JUB % wise

For the record, I don't believe the author was ever a conservative. Notice that his rant is based upon his dislike of people rather than any discussion of the ideological or pragmatic differences between conservatives and liberals. We go through this nonsense every election cycle. Watch for it, in a few days the liberal media will announce that someone has formed the "Republicans for Obama." It stopped impressing anyone decades ago.

Can't you do anything other than parrot Republicon talking points?

Here is Democrat leader Sharpton saying that Republicans want to wipe out innocent people like Hitler's German. No doubt Obama and his party will criticize Sharptonhttp://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-TV/2012/05/26/Sharpton-Republicans-Want-To-Wipe-Out-Innocent-People-Like-Hitlers-Germany for his stupid statement, as the liberals think conservatives should keep reprimanding others.

See what I mean, every liberal post has to have some kind of put down or attack on other members.
And your sanctimonious pronouncements do not? :rotflmao: Speaking of put down or attack, we have honed our skills by your example.

I really do not think that is true. Show me what you consider a personal attack by me on a member.

If you don't already know, my telling you is going to have little or no effect. Don't forget to switch hands.

The media is way slanted

Only those with the slant can't/won't see it

It's very hip to denigrate republicans or conservatives

and the shame is that on the REAL issues they deserve to be called out on - gay rights for one - becomes background noise

Liberal partisans are their own worst enemy as they turn off reasonable folks who prefer civility

Ann Romney = Hitler ? Newsweek ?

Oh bullshit. You pay attention enough to understand I could spend hours posting insult after insult from BOTH sides. I don't have the time but you do have the google. People say insulting stuff these days it is our culture more than anything else. That and they know they can get a headline or two if they act like a five year old.

the only bullshit is the idea that the media IS NOT slanted

MSNBC in primetime 5x a week has rat a tat tat with
Chris Matthews (Tingles)
Ed Schultz - the vein in his head from screaming at Mitt might burst
Rachel - learned yes - partisan yes
Lawrence O'Donnell - needs more makeup for sure

then there's Rev Al in fringe (that's media speak) - you know what he's saying don't you?

this should be "brought to you by the Obama campaign for re-election"

i agree with you on the "culture" but frankly I find George Will or Charles Krauthammer to be much more civil than say Paul Begala or Paul Krugman

does this mean the invite is off ? ;)

come to NYC !!!!!!!

I've never heard what the "right" is doing as being described as "hysteria."

I think he means hysteria more in the technical term, not the popular one. The latter involves screaming and antics; the former may -- but not necessarily. Classical hysteria has more to do with the way of thinking than the outward expression: it is irrational but sees itself as rational, given to merely repeating assertions as a way to establishing an argument, especially when truly challenged. It doesn't necessarily call names, either; more indicative is the tendency to return repeatedly to the same positions regardless of evidence presented, indeed regardless of having earlier acknowledged the position as being in error.

For the record, I don't believe the author was ever a conservative. Notice that his rant is based upon his dislike of people rather than any discussion of the ideological or pragmatic differences between conservatives and liberals. For the record, I don't believe you read the article -- because your second statement is demonstrably false.

Also for the record, that blindness to the actual issues and reliance on caricature is an element of the very hysteria he's talking about. His focus is on the lack of thought -- which you just demonstrated fully.

Nah reality is much more civil I have found. The invite is definitely on. Someone has to fill the leather swing for the JUB CE&P version of pinata. Bring your dollar bills for the drag queens.

A piñata is a papier-mâché or other type of container that is decorated, filled with toys and/or candy, and then broken as part of a ceremony or celebration.

^^^Just because I thought the definition made the idea much more funny....Will you let me break you Chance? I promise to be gentle... At first

I get the media slant. However I also get that you only reference media slant from the MSNBC perspective which is definitively left leaning. They have promos where they declare their unashamed liberal love affair. YET exactly the same can be said of Fox news. CNN is the only one relatively close to the middle but that depends on the anchor to a great degree. It exist on both sides.

So, first, Kul, you select your own definition of hysteria. then you project it to him, then you elevate him to your authority on psychology. All because he claims to have converted from conservatism. Since you are starting on page 1 in your study of psychology, I suggest you flip to the chapter on narcissistic personality disorders. Since you often criticize me for failing to accept your opinions as "facts ", you should find the chapter enlightening.
