there is No benefit of drinking alcohol (only harmful like alcohol abuse).
so why not banned alcohol advertising ?

I do drink a little socially but not privately.

the costs of damaging lives out weigh the benefits of making money.

It depends on what you are defining as alcohol.

I think it doesn't get banned because it's popular. In the US we tried to ban it with a thing called Prohibition and that didn't work.

i didn't say ban alcohol,
i said ban advertising !!!

Even though I misread your post, the popularity of alcohol makes it marketable and more protected than cigarettes. It also has some utility in that you can drink it at meals.

I think I've written a possible answer to your question.

In North America they’ve curbed what advertisers can show in regard to alcohol. For example, they can’t show anybody actually drinking it.

However, by and large alcohol is not considered a “drug” (ROLF) and is not under pressure to be abolished in the way tobacco is.

1. Depending on which studies you go by, moderate consumption of alcohol may be seen as beneficial to good health.

2. The correlation between alcohol and fatal disease is not as definitively proven as it is with cigarettes.

3. Notwithstanding that there is a lot of alcohol abuse, alcoholic drinks lack a strong dependency forming-factor like nicotine.

Compare with tobacco:
Tobacco has no known safe or beneficial dose. Alcohol in low dosage is either healthy or neutral. So advertise it.

It makes a lot of money, or something...

And the "Spirits" industry have powerful lobbying groups that make contributions to elected officials election campaigns then collect after the officials are in office.

Here in the United States, for a time, advertising on any hard liquor was banned for quite some time. Beer advertising never was but any kind of liquor could not have commercials.

This has recently changed but, as BearBoi said, there are rules governing it such as no one can be actually seen drinking the product.

Since alcohol is legal, I have no problem with them advertising it. If I'm a vodka manufacturer, and I want to get my name out there so people think if you drink my vodka you'll be cool, so be it. If that means my bottles will be stocked in bars over some other brand, that's great. That's the whole idea of advertising: to make money and brand recognition.

If you already have an alcohol problem, seeing an advertisement for a product is not going to change your consumption habits. However, if you enjoy an occasional martini while out with friends, maybe you'll consider using my vodka instead of another brand.

My main beef with alcohol advertising is that the ads usually associate the alcohol (especially beer) with wild parties and sex.

Alcohol And Health

Moderate drinkers tend to have better health and live longer than those who are either abstainers or heavy drinkers. In addition to having fewer heart attacks and strokes, moderate consumers of alcoholic beverages (beer, wine or distilled spirits or liquor) are generally less likely to suffer hypertension or high blood pressure, peripheral artery disease, Alzheimer's disease and the common cold.

Sensible drinking also appears to be beneficial in reducing or preventing diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, bone fractures and osteoporosis, kidney stones, digestive ailments, stress and depression, poor cognition and memory, Parkinson's disease, hepatitis A, pancreatic cancer, macular degeneration (a major cause of blindness), angina pectoris, duodenal ulcer, erectile dysfunction, hearing loss, gallstones, liver disease and poor physical condition in elderly.

I think I will start drinking more often. Sometimes I go weeks without a drink.

IMO: They should make it so you can't advertise it without saying the harmful affects it will have. Also make a law saying you can only have x amount of drinks per day. And can only sell x amount of alcohol to someone per day.

Alcoholic drunk drivers tend to kill people.

Well in Ontario, there are lots of regulations on advertising alcohol and sponsorship of events.
