Windows 7

Also the new "show desktop" sucks ass, WHO THE FUCK thought of the "functionality" of when mouseovering the button, to SHOW the desktop.
How does that help, when do you want to see your desktop but not do anything?

Sorry for the ranting, I just suffer from windows-nausia after doing some projects with .NET and the bloatware VS.
Hmmm, maybe because you can see what is on your desktop, ORRRRRR, and get this right, click that little button and it minimizes all windows, click it again...your going to crap your pants!...it brings back all the windows! OMG, CRAAAZY right!?

Of course, Apple has the same thing (which you are now going to say MS stole it blah blah blah) and I don't see you getting all up in their shit for the same shit.

I guess I should rejoice in your posts, you are scared for your beloved Apple now. MS has a light and functional OS (as opposed to a heavier functional OS of Vista), they have made the OS X dock obsolete with the new taskbar. This will slowdown the mass exodus to Apple. MS has some good commercials that Apple has a hardtime combatting, hell the adds are making them seriously consider making cheap Macbooks.

You even pointed out an insignificant part of Win7 because you can't find a problem with it. Of course, you could use the same old VIRUS arguement, but that isn't original.

If you don't like .NET then don't use it, go back to your little Applescript.

Mr. Wolf, thank you.

I grow tired of the "I'm not intelligent enough to operate my own computer, so my OS does it for me" debates.

I'm glad to see you still have the fighting spirit!

Oh no problem Liam.

I always have enough fighting spirit to put down dumb macheads. It is kind of a past time of mine.

There was a friend of a friend over this weekend. He's going to school and majoring in some area of computers. They're doing object-oriented c++ programming.

So, he pulls out his macbook (because when I think of programming, I think of mac) and proceeds to ssh into a FreeBSD box on campus to do is work.

ANd he had the "look."

You know how you can look at someone and tell he or she may be autistic? Well, it's the same for me with mac users. mac used have these collages of mac users on its' site. I would look at them and there was some common physical trait. Mental impairment? Perhaps. Social retardation? Most likely.

Oh I know the look well. It's how I know who are to true apple crazies and who just uses a mac. I usually stay away from the crazies if I can, but sometimes, you just can't.

If he had pulled out the Mac in front of me, I would have laughed.

I also dislike the ones who pull out their mac and make a big show of it, with the speakers full blast, and trying to show everyone in eyeshot how COOOOL a mac is.

Look folks, while a debate about one OS vs another is fine, a name calling silly debate like the above is not. that's a slipper slope that isn't a good idea. we've lost folks from the forum completely because of this sorta stuff. so please end the debate here and now. please limit the responses to what you like or don't like but don't be rude about it.

Well, it was his first time to my place.

He laughed at me when I told him my house was a "mac-free" zone. You know, because we're fee-thinkers and all.

[edit]

oh here we go... oy

Ohhhh sadness, me and Liam were enjoying ourselves too lol

its the reason i never post here anymore

Here's a shot of Windows 7 on VMWare Fusion. They recommend you use the Windows Server 2008 setting so that's why you see it.

Do the aero effects not work in VMFusion? Cause it looks all turned off.

Here is mine:

You're right they are turned off. That's because of the video card and really the way the VM works. I don't think you can have Aero in a VM. :(
I thought you could get aero in VM? I dont really know though, I don't mess with virtual machines right now. It really isnt hard to dual boot though.

Just bought a computer with Vista 64-bit. It seems to work fine. Boots up very quickly.

What advantage does 7 have?

It's enough of a pain that lots of 3rd-party software companies, let alone hardware device manufacturers (some of my video equipment, for example) still haven't updated all of their products for Vista.
Well Windows 7 is a lot faster and more stable than Vista. Vista is already very stable, more stable than XP by alot.

Vista needs at least 2gb to run smoothly, Windows 7 runs smoothly and very fast on 1gb, and aero works perfectly on 1gb as well.

it actually has a few new things. and most of it has been redesigned.

Win7 was done with the beta 1, it was amazing. It is perfect with the RC.

This may have been addressed in the thread already so aplogies: I burned 7 RC to disk and havn't gotten around to installing it yet... I'm a little nervous.

My HD has two partitions on it. One has nothing on it but a file that can be deleted, the other is XP Home. Is installing 7 RC onto the other partition okay, or would it be better to not have both on the system and just do a clean install of 7 RC?

Thanks.
I am dual booting Win7 right now with Vista. I would say it is perfectly fine to put it on the empty partition. And you will be able to get to your files on the other partition.

Although, it is a xp partition so you might not be able to read the data. Meh, just dual boot, you'll be fine. If you end up liking Win7 alot, a clean install is good then.

I ahve been running Windows 7 on a different drive using my bios boot menu. That way I avoid any issues with boot manager run by the OS. The install was awesome..my home network (Called Homegroup now) setup in seconds. As far as driver issues if there isnt a driver yet availbale for W7 you may try a Vista driver...chances are it will work. Some older hardware (My old Creative webcam) may not have a vista driver in that case you may have a problem. (I used my xp driver and yes it worked limited) Software seems to run well and you can run in a XP mode. Some massive online games that use anti hack software like Xtrap and Punkbuster at this time will not run in any mode. I also use the "Run as Admin" that may give you a bigger chance of it running. Direct X 11 unlike DX10 is backward compatibale (If it needs 9c 11 should work however I have found exceptions and downloaded Dx9c and it runs along side Dx11)

My opnion is that Microsoft heard what many felt about Vista and reworked the OS into a user friendly easy to learn OS and finally they got it right.

MS has a forum that will assist with issues and they are quick to respond.

RC1 is build 7100

Yep, I pre-ordered 2 copies of Win7 Premium today on Wal-Mart.com for $50 each. Nice deal.......

I guess if I'm building a completely new PC I'm supposed to buy a full version? How would they know otherwise?

I see no advantage in Ultimate. It looks like you get some security thing called BitLocker and the capability of thirty-five languages. I guess if you're at the U.N. you might need it.

I was ordering parts for a Mediapc and decided to upgrade the memory on the desktop PC to 8 Gb - so now it is on to a 64bit OS. Haven't decided yet - I was thinking Vista 64.

But.. if Win7 is so hot I suppose I could use RC1 until the final version comes out in Oct.
