Wisc. Governor Makes a Cold-Blooded Threat to Sic the National Guard on Union Workers

Nice to see the union thugs protest so peacefully

It looks as if I might have to agree with you on one point. The demonstrations have been quite peaceful, thank you. :D
THUG: Noun - thug (plural thugs)
A criminal who treats others violently and roughly, especially for hire. #-o
Did you think of "union thugs" all by yourself or did you borrow it from a Fox talking point? If somebody disagrees with you, does he waive the rights of freedom of speech or assembly? The "firefighting thugs" and the "police thugs" are sympathetic with the "union thugs".
Walker may wish to subject these "thugs" to police dogs and fire hoses. Selma, Alabama lives! (!)

Really? He said that? Those MSNBC talking points are making you very paranoid [-X

Not really. I said that. Also, I don't subscribe to cable but I get the MSNBC signal off the ionosphere. Peaceful demonstration comes under the heading of "equal protection under the law."

Thank you for the diagnosis. You're going to save me lots of $$$ on shrink visits. By the way, I'm going to need to see your degree from med. school and your birth certificate to make this diagnosis valid.

Oh Becky puh-lease.

At least whoever created that sign used "spell check."

Ooo, but if Roger Ailes told Fox News how to respond to this and I'm not sure that he hasn't already issued a "directive;" well...to be honest I haven't taken the time to research whether he has or hasn't, but I'd be wiling to bet that he has.

Please share your direct "talking points" on this issue so that we (I) might be able to address them directly / correctly. ..|

And laikaNYC, in case your wondering I do love you "like a fat kid loves cake.

If that Colloquialism (See? I can share) is to difficult for you to understand, please let me know. ..|

Otherwise I'd just respond to this:
Nice to see the union thugs protest so peacefully

Really?

I'm under the impression that you've never worked an honest day in your life have you?

The UNIONS wagered a 40 hour work week for Americans.

THE UNIONS set the minimum age standard for who can work.

THE UNIONS helped to establish a "minimum wage."

The American Unions helped to establish "vacation" and "comp time" for the rest of us

You know, like those "socialists" over in Europe and Canada do?

Anyone who says that the Unions didn't do anything for America, are to ill-informed to acknowledge that without the Union we would (even in a Democracy) be beholden to our "Corporate Masters."

Which is pretty much where we already are.

IOW anyone who says that the American Unions are "worthless" are those who think that Unions didn't to anything for them.

And laikaNYC, while you point your ideological finger at some you're still missing the point, IMHO.

Of course you could say the same about me (and my libural views) when it comes to the "Tea-baggers," but apparently our current American Educational / Home school system doesn't teach that curriculum.

Does it?

I'm just saying. (*8*)

"Violence"? Since when is holding up a sign considered violence?

This is typical Republican reaction... shift the blame. He's just grasping at straws and looking embarrassingly pathetic.

The failed Republican governor is attempting to union bust along with taking money out of labor's pockets. Already there are protests organizing against these newly elected Republicans in other states. It only took 6 weeks to realize Republicans in office are a mistake.

Good for the Democrats to boycott this. They are the ones looking out for the average citizen.

So, running away is a sign of courage? You mean like these guys?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcxKIJTb3Hg

NO like these.....

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nr83lpjB_s[/ame]

these republicans walked out of the House of representatives, many fold the number who you are calling cowards, after six months of talks and negotiations on a bill. They walked out because they didn't think enough time had been given to discuss the law.

The 16 guys in wisconsin walked out because they were told, under threat of military force, to vote on an issue, with only five days to consider or discuss it, or even read it for that matter and come to conclusions.

These people ARE going to get wide approval from the tens of thousands protesting currently, and thoe images are going to politically empower the men who walked out.

Imagine that... gaining power through real respect and real representation of constituents.

These people have a right to protest the way they are being treated. That is the american way.

Fearing the power that people gain through protest and representation of the people? have you seen the middle east lately?

The ideology you express has been tried and tried... but never works.

Villainize and demean the people protesting for their rights. Thats the thinking of Iranian leadership values, not american.

Yes, they behaved in a juvenile manner as well, no argument. But the House was able to continue it's business as was scheduled. And they didn't go jetting off to the South of France to avoid being hauled back into session by the Sergeant at Arms.

It's a weak comparison, but I guess it's the best you could come up with.

The bill in question is five pages long. How long do these imbeciles need to wade through that? It's not like it's War and Peace. Here it his, tell me how long it takes you.
http://legis.wisconsin.gov/2011/data/SB-13.pdf

Apparently many of the teachers are too "sick" to come to work, but well enough to protest. Schools in major cities are closed for a third day, now. How many moms and dads have had to take off to watch their kids, do you suppose? Think that's going to win many friends?

They absolutely have a right to protest. They can bemoan the fact that they (teachers) don't have to pay a dime towards their pensions and health care costs and shouldn't be made to. Wisconsin is facing a multi-billion dollar shortfall. Think that the average working stiff with maybe a 401K and paying several thousand or more per year for insurance is going to be very supportive of this bunch?

We'll see how this plays out. I predict the 14 cowards will return from Illinois and be forced to read all 5 pages of this ponderous, incomprehensible bill. Then it will pass and be signed by the governor. Then we'll get to do this all over again in another state in the coming weeks.

You see it going differently?

I do indeed.

http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/02/18/wisconsin.budget/index.html?hpt=T2

The defecting lawmakers say they won't return until Walker agrees to negotiate with the teacher's union on the governor's proposals to reduce the state's budget deficit by cutting benefits for its members. That, and remove language from the bill that critics say threatens the existence of all public employee unions in the state.
"He's going to get his money. We all know that," Democratic state Sen. Jon Erpenbach told CNN. "This issue is all about the governor's attempt to strip collective bargaining rights away from the unions and essentially bust them."

This is set to be a big stand off between government and labor. Who do you guys think Obama is going to side with? LABOR. He has to be re elected in 18 months, and he can't do it without the unions.

It is beginning to go national. It IS going to get much BIGGER.

A self-described "nationwide grass-roots movement dedicated to creating ... jobs" was planning to hold a "cheesehead" rally in New York on Friday to show support for Wisconsin workers.
"Let's show our support for workers in Wisconsin, New York and across the USA!" said a statement from the Job Party, which plans to march near CNN, NBC and Fox along Sixth Avenue in Manhattan.

Here's the deal from my perspective.

The "unionized" labor from the State of Wisconsin have a far better arrangement with their "employer" (The State of Wisconsin) than the rest of us Americans have with ANY agreement that we currently have with our "employer."

Whoever and whatever that arrangement might be.

From the perspective of the Governor of Wisconsin, I can see where he's coming from.

But historically?

From an American History Perspective?

Wisconsin may very well be the last bastion of Unionized Labor, and Government support for the "working class," and as blue collar workers the last voice that many of us may have here.

Put another notch in my bed post, or ad another feather to my head band for reasons why Republicans are nothing more than "Corporate SHILLS." :grrr:

And just on a legal note.... why would this state move in anyway avoid its illegality as set by this act in 1935.....

The Wagner Act of 1935
SEC. 7. Employees shall have the right of self-organization, to form, join, or assist labor organizations, to bargain collectively through representatives of their own choosing, and to engage in concerted activities, for the purpose of collective bargaining or other mutual aid or protection.

SEC. 8. It shall be an unfair labor practice for an employer-

(1) To interfere with, restrain, or coerce employees in the exercise of the rights guaranteed in section 7.

(2) To dominate or interfere with the formation or administration of any labor organization or contribute financial or other support to it: Provided, That... an employer shall not be prohibited from permitting employees to confer with him during working hours without loss of time or pay.

(3) By discrimination in regard to hire or tenure of employment or any term or condition of employment to encourage or discourage membership in any labor organization: Provided, That nothing in this Act or in any other statute of the United States, shall preclude an employer from making an agreement with a labor organization (not established, maintained, or assisted by any action defined in this Act as an unfair labor practice) to require as a condition of employment membership therein, if such labor organization is the representative of the employees in the appropriate collec tive bargaining unit covered by such agreement when made.

(4) To discharge or otherwise discriminate against an employee because he has filed charges or given testimony under this Act.

(5) To refuse to bargain collectively with the representatives of his employees.

does anyone know if this was ever repealed, or the US gov't gave wisconsin's governor the ability to supercede its legislation?

What the Governor is doing is illegal and its immoral. It is going to set off a wildfire response within all of the labor community and they will band together in new and profound ways against the republican party if this and SPeaker Boners plans continue.

So, theoretically, the feds could arrest the governor and all the Republicans for conspiracy to violate the Act.

BTW, it's "supersede", as in "to set above", not "supercede", which would mean "to surrender above".

The teachers could take their students to the protests and make it a lesson in how people sometimes have to disrupt things in order to fight for their rights.

its happening right now...

http://www.wisconsinrapidstribune.c...ents-protest-this-morning-to-support-teachers

Students fashioned signs such as "Walk out on Walker" to show support for their teachers during the protest at the corner of 16th Street and Highway 54.

The teenagers also signaled to cars for their support asking the motorists to honk their horns while they passed by on the highway.

http://www.newstribune.com/news/2011/feb/17/thousands-protest-anti-union-bill-wisconsin/

Thousands of teachers, students and prison guards descended on the Wisconsin Capitol on Wednesday to fight a move to strip government workers of union rights in the first state to grant them more than a half-century ago, but it cleared a major legislative hurdle without the changes they sought.

The Statehouse filled with as many as 10,000 demonstrators who chanted, sang the national anthem and beat drums for hours in demonstrations unlike any seen in Madison in decades. The noise in the rotunda rose to the level of a chainsaw, and many Madison teachers joined the protest by calling in sick in such numbers that the district — the state’s second-largest — had to cancel classes.
