Since when are you an american? When did YOU become part of the american "WE"? I thought you were from greece? Isnt that the land that makes illegal immigration possible for the EU as greece falls apart financially at the seams?

Interesting that you would consider yourself part of the "WE" in the american experience. Interesting that you never know what is happening in Greece but are an expert of canadian law and american politics.

Venzuela seams a bit of a ridiculous notion, Chavez is a bit of a dick, but in terms of huge "international threats," he's hardly a blip on the radar. The mans a fucking clown shoe.
 
Well, I would say that it will be whoever attacks the United States next. From the current crop, I don't see even the leaders of Governments of non-friendly countries like Iran being turned into the "World's Baddie".

That will depend upon Iran's progress in developing its nuclear weapons industry.

I'm not overly keen on countries with genocidal tendancies having nukes. Which is why I think the israelis should give theirs up. And compared to who the next "baddie" is, the next country that America gets a hardon for destroying, they'll never be as much of a threat to general stability or just quite that much of a pain in the hole as the israelis are.

Deny the U.S. has a long list of enemies, real or imagined, Venezuela, Iran and North Korea included, and U.S. foreign policy now nearly a decade old spun from weapons-of-mass-destruction lies by a war-criminal president and his goons, his illegal "renditions" and return to medieval torture as state policy, affecting the rest of the world even more than bin Laden did. Without putting words in his mouth, I'd say that's what Kallipolis means.

It's only after that that Kallipolis uses "we," meaning all of us affected by this bubbling cauldron of U.S.-manufactured bullshit, Greece included, which is part of NATO, also at war, by the way, as is Canada with boots on the ground in Afghanistan. It may be news to you, but the U.S. isn't alone in its stupid, useless war.

From "We are all Americans" on the day of 9/11, it's now "Since when did YOU become part of the American "We?"

I notice one of the comments below say that it is easier to be against someone than be for someone, but that's not the case with the so-called "Obama doctrine" now is it? Obama proved that he is for self-determination when he joined with the international movement against Gaddafi, and even then it wasn't a clarion call. His pragmatic approach doesn't allow for bogeymen, which is why the US didn't have any of the sort with Clinton, the previous pragmatic president.

I know this is a broken-record, but this one isn't all about condemnation--- the Boomers grew up with an America with a simplified mission, either the stories of bravery regarding the Nazis to what they lived as the Cold War. It is pretty difficult for a generation raised on the simplicity of such a stark contrast as black-and-white to appreciate the richness of color that is reality. *shrug* And seeing as how the War on Terror fails to live up to that Cold War dichotomy, I don't think that myopic worldview will persist, especially since not all of the Boomer generation bought into it, to subsequent generations.

I agree with you. That black and white thinking is as regressive as bin Laden and his world view. It just doesn't fit into a complex world. "You're either with us or against us." That sums up the group precisely. Obama's name is funny so he must be against us. You put your penis is that guy's ass. You have to be against us.

The issue about our relationship with Islam is primarily from AIPAC. Americans, I'd argue, aren't really as fond of Israel as our leaders are. We have little cultural ties and a short diplomatic history of close ties. I don't even think we fully supported the establishment of Israel.

IMO, the GOP's evangelicals and the Osmonds are alike. The GOP loves Israel but hates Jews just like the Osmonds love black music but hate blacks.
