Would being attracted to hyper-masculine looking men be considered a fetish or a just a preference?

I'm talking about huge, muscular, burly, manly brutes like....take Stone Cold Steve Austin or The Undertaker. Now, I know....You might tell me "but wouldn't those guys be considered muscle bears? How is that a fetish?" But a few days ago, I had a conversation with a friend of mine from my college's GSA and the conversation somehow turned to professional wrestling and I had told this person that I think Triple H is sexier now without long hair and I think that Stone Cold Steve Austin is hot too. This person had told me "So you have like, a fetish for big, manly, badass guys like that?" I told him that being into bears and masculine men isn't really a "fetish" it's just the kind of guy I'm attracted to...But he tried to explain to me that it is a fetish because it kind of goes against what gay guys are "ususally" attracted to. Feminine metrosexual guys.

Sometimes, I do feel like I can't differentiate between a fetish and a preference anymore. If I were to apply my friend's logic, does that mean I have a "muscle fetish" because I like bodybuilders? Do I have an "Ass fetish" because I'm an ass man? I'm interested to hear JUB's take on this.

fetish..............................

I would say 'preference'. It would be a fetish if he had pecs big enough that you could sit on his stomach, press his pecs together, and slide your dick between them to achieve orgasm.

What does what you listed have to do with hyper-masculinity?

And your friend, like most gay people, needs to stop speaking as an authority on gay people.

Preference...I prefer masculine men too, but not examples you gave...

He knows I'm attracted to bears, he knows I identify as a bear or a cub or whatever comes first on that hierarchy and he think there is nothing wrong with being into bears in of itself, he just thinks that being into big, masculine, muscular brutes like pro-wrestlers, bodybuilders, or strongmen is like a fetish because gay guys who are more stereotypical usually don't view guys like this.....

to be considered hot or sexy. I do, however and I'm well aware that people outside of the bear community wouldn't normally construe them as sexy which is probably why my friend considers being into guys like that to be a "fetish".

Preference - for me fetish has to involve a certain object or situation rather than just a look/feature of a person.

So if he likes feminine twinks, he has a fetish for feminine twinks? No...

In bold; all I needed to know.

Find a new class of friend, one who doesn't exist in a broken mirror.

That's what I find interesting about this topic.

It has never been 'normal' for a man look like the Muscle Mary boys in post 10.

They have to spend a lot of time working out, they have to eat a lot, and sometimes (often?) they have to use drugs/injections. They are physically manufactured/artificial – and undoubtedly [emotionally] obsessive.

That makes them both 'a certain object' and 'a situation'.

^ Yup. Nailed it.

Fetish.

I'd say it's a fetish, because the average man doesn't look like that.

Definitely a fetish I have.

Again, I say fetish because being masculine is one thing, but being hyper-masculine is another. These are men that embody all stereotypes of what being a man is. Huge muscles, rugged looks, strong, domineering personalities.

People fetishize black men, or other ethnicities for stereotypes that surround them as well. That's why almost all black men in porn play a "thug" or gangster character and the majority of interracial scenes are black men topping white men.
